Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the topic dedicated to all problems you may face when using our desktop and web apps, big or small.

What should I post here?

  • if the app is acting in an unusual way, when you click on the menus and buttons, for example
  • if the player is displaying error messages, or if the playback is interrupted, let us know
  • if you're unable to login, or if the app kicks you out, we need to be aware too
  • if it simply crashes on you, when you connect or not to a device, it's better to leave a comment
  • if you have tips or workarounds to share, they'll be very welcome too

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version of Deezer :floppy_disk:

Deezer 5.30.140 for Windows.

After switching to Deezer application with alt+tab or via taskbar pressing Space does not pause (or start) playback. You have to click somewhere inside the Deezer window in order to sort of “focus” UI and make Space work.

(Curiously, Ctrl+arrows can change volume immediately after swtching to the applicatio, additional clicking is not necessary)

Web version: you can no longer delete songs from the queue. If you’re playing music, deleted songs return when you close the queue. If you pause it, deleted songs come back when you resume playback.

Not a huge deal, but MacOS Monterey includes a new “Now Playing” feature in the menu bar. Using the Desktop version of Deezer, the album name and album artwork don’t seem to get called over. Same with the track duration and current progress.

I can’t login to the windows app, it opens firefox and says “You’re in!” but it just goes back to the app and refreshes the login window, no error. I’ve tried enabling cookies and disabling content blockers.

I tried to login to Edge/Chrome but it says my password is wrong. It definitely isn’t because I use a password manager. It logs in fine in Firefox, iOS, Android.

Maybe just provide us a good ol’ username and password box?

Not a great start to trying out Deezer hmm.

Deezer 5.30.150 Windows 10

Just installed the Desktop app on Windows 11 - I can only open it if I ‘run as administrator’ and then once open it closes itself usually within 30 seconds. Have tried re-installing, rebooting computer etc.

In the web version you can go back and forth on the page. In the version of a desktop it is impossible. I need to move the mouse instead of using keyboard shortcuts.

I’ve got the same experience.

Volume changes immediately with CTRL+UP/DOWN. Next or previous track (SHIFT+LEFT/RIGHT) don’t work; skipping back/forward (CTRL+LEFT/RIGHT) and pause/play (SPACE) doesn’t work like Artem Karpenko wrote.

Also the navigation with the keyboard is awkward.

You would expect that you can go back/forward with ALT+LEFT/RIGHT and move around with TAB or ARROWS. The only way to move around pages with the keyboard is by using the TAB-key. In the left menu the selected item gets an orange highlight (dark theme) and when pressing ENTER you’ll got that page in the right pane.

To switch to that pane, you can CTRL+TAB.

There is no visual way to tell where you are (what pane is selected when using keyboard navigation).

to select someting in the right pane you need to tab trough. The problem is that the items(tiles) on the right side (on the BROWSE page) don’t get a visual identifier on that item is selected, so you’re navigating blind…..

Besides that improvement is needed here, a lot can only be done by using a mouse. (Liking numbers, showing lyrics, Adding to a playlist and “hating” numbers) It would be nice if shortcuts for these would be added too. Maybe even shortcuts for the main items in the navigational-menu on the left; ie: CTRL+1 for “Music”, CTRL+2 for “Podcasts”, CTRL+3 for “Radio”, and so on….

On Windows, using the Desktop app, I can no longer add songs to the Queue (that option is missing from the menu when clicking on … next to a song).

I think related, when I search for an artist and start to play their Top Tracks, it now only plays the first track and then moves to Recommended tracks.  I can no longer just play the Top Tracks as a list.

Crashes, Lags and Resources!

Deezer (5.30.170 on Windows) crashes at least one per day. I usually hibernate my PC and that might be a cause.

Additionally its UI lags all the time and app crashes randomly. I click some button, wait for reaction and it crashes.

It also takes a lot of PC resources - task manager shows 1500 MB of RAM and very high CPU usage!!

Automatically scrolling to the currently playing song in the queue sometimes doesn’t work

When I first start listening to a playlist, I open up the queue. If I hide the queue to do something else in Deezer and open the queue up again it does automatically scroll to the song currently playing… up until about the 30th song or so and then it gets “stuck”. I’ll explain how to reproduce below.

26

  1. Start playing a playlist with about 100 songs in the playlist
  2. Open up the queue and verify that it does automatically scroll to current playing song
  3. Wait until it’s playing the 30th song.
  4. Close the queue and do a search or something
  5. Open up the queue

Expected: It would scroll automatically to the 30th song in the queue

Actual: From the 27th song on it always automatically scrolls to the 26th song. This song might not always be accurate. The number may depend on other factors, but my current playlist always scrolls back to the 26th song.

Update: I started playing another large (2000 song) playlist and it is also “stuck” on the 26th song, so it seems to be specific to 26 for some reason.

I have a Mac and I downloaded the desktop app, and both on the website and the app I can only play song ads. It doesn’t let me play actual songs, it just plays 30 second ads from other songs. I already tried clearing my cache and deleting my browser’s (Chrome and Safari) data. I already restarted my browsers, restarted my computer, and logged out and in from the website and desktop app. Not sure why it’s acting this way. I thought Deezer didn’t play songs for free until I looked online and realized it was a free app.

Omg … our poor Deezer Community and Feed Back Managers need a medal .. Or better still a raise!  It is only Jesus who could walk on water. Everyone … count your blessings, never take them for granted. Cheers. :musical_note::warning:

The latest version from Windows Store. Play/Pause/skip/previous button stop working!

Do you have any Q/A? How can I use it without this important buttons?

BTW: I tried reinstall, no help to me.

Fixed after another try to reinstall.

Using Deezer family, you can select which member you are when you log into the app, but regardless of who you pick, the app uses the same person.

if I’m logged I am using the app on my computer whilst my daughter is using the app on her computer (logged in as her profile) the songs will stop playing and we will get the message that someone else is using your account.

This also carries over to other devices. If I’m listening on my iPhone (as me) and my daughter logs onto her pc using the app (as her) my phone stops playing and has a message that someone is using my account

The Deezer desktop is just junk, clearly built with some dodgy JS built tool as a foundation and more non specific windowing frameworks, an utter pile of junk.

The system bar menu on the Mac sums it as to why this should be deleted and started again and it should be done natively.

Anyway the main window is closed and music is playing (that is good) and wait I have a call so I want to pause the music, great head to the system menu to click pause, wait why has the entire desktop app appeared, what is the point, how did that get past QA, who in QA needs firing, maybe someone else told QA it would be OK, well it isn’t. Better off not having the system bar menu at all.

Clearly Deezer don’t care about the desktop, so fair enough but if that is true just come out and say it rather than building this piece of junk, this time could be spent on the mobile app, wearable app or an Apple TV app.

Thanks for the feedback @Dawid_m I'll pass it on!

Hey @Music Maven Gapless is currently being developed for our desktop app, hang in there, we'll have it soon!

About the playlists curated by you, my apologies, but I'm not sure I understood you. Could you please post a screenshot of the playlists and lack of info? Thank you!

I can’t help but notice that over a year has passed, and still no gapless playback in the Windows app.

“Soon” might have a different meaning to you than it does to me…

Any updates on when it will be here?

I also still don’t see any “Album”-column in the queue view. Any news on that?

Deezer Web/MacOS/Windows does not mark podcast episodes as unplayed. The “Mark as played” button works as expected, but “Mark as unplayed” doesn’t do anything. Tried it on Web/MacOS/Windows all with the same result.

FYI … Posted some feedback here:

I’ve gone into some detail. So to me it warrants more than just a quick reply on this thread. Cheers… J

on 5.30.230 Windows desktop app, deleting a song from a playlist results in an error (no specific message just “error occurred, retry”). Searching the playlist and deleting all of those tracks by selecting the top ‘select-all’ checkmark deletes ALL the songs from the playlist, not just all the songs in the search. if this is intended behavior there should be a notification that you are deleting every song, not just the ones you searched for, or at least an ‘undo’ function, this has caught me out twice now. I preferred it before when I could search for an artist or album to remove them from a playlist rather than clicking every checkbox, hopefully this is just a bug.

The desktop app closes unexpectedly every 10 minutes or so.  It happens regardless of the actions the app is doing (streaming music, playing downloaded music, remaining idle).  I first detected the issue on June 13th 2022, but had not used the desktop app for a couple of weeks, so the bug can be older.  The last update from the Windows Store was on May 30th and I am running version 5.30.250 on Windows 11 Pro (v.22H2 build 22621.160).

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Has the development team identified the issue?

@fVoss

Now, that you have opened your own thread, i suggest keeping all specific comments there.

Clearly Deezer don’t care about the desktop, so fair enough but if that is true just come out and say it rather than building this piece of junk, this time could be spent on the mobile app, wearable app or an Apple TV app.

All their apps are junk and none can communicate with AirPlay or Chromecast (I have both), none can work as a remote to another either. Your only option is to direct all system level audio to remote speakers, which is less than ideal.

Dezer is clearly not a software company, because they have a lot of employees but clearly not enough competent front-end developers to match something a small competent team of developers could beat in a few months. I’ll probably switch away soon, the only thing that turned the balance towards Deezer for me was that their Heos app (Denon AV amplifier thing) had better audio quality than the Heos apps of the others I sampled at the time. However, I didn’t end up using that either, because of the clunky usability via a separate mobile app that is even worse than the regular Deezer apps. The Spotify Heos thing worked right off any Spotify app on any device.

Apple Music deleted all my playlists and library after I unsubbed from their live streaming thing although I had built for over more than a decade offline content for myself in iTunes. That’s why I’m never going back to that. Spotify seemed weak in some areas, but now in retrospective it was all excellent compared to what I’m getting in Deezer. Then there’s all this American politics all of these suffer from although I couldn’t care less as an European over what nonsense American socialists want to cancel next.

There is no use of Desktop App if I cannot cast my music on my hifi system.
