Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the topic dedicated to all problems you may face when using our desktop and web apps, big or small.

What should I post here?

  • if the app is acting in an unusual way, when you click on the menus and buttons, for example
  • if the player is displaying error messages, or if the playback is interrupted, let us know
  • if you're unable to login, or if the app kicks you out, we need to be aware too
  • if it simply crashes on you, when you connect or not to a device, it's better to leave a comment
  • if you have tips or workarounds to share, they'll be very welcome too

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version of Deezer :floppy_disk:

The Mac version of the App still doesn’t work properly, when you click on “Artist” or discography, after the initial click the links stop working.  very frustrating.

On the verge of giving up… i’ll switch to the browser version… hopefully that works.

Hey @Paul Taylor

Sorry about that. 4.32.20 is being rolled out, hopefully fixing this for you.

In the meantime, yes, please use the web service. I do it sometimes as well, to enable the devs to fix the app's issue in due course.

Thank you for your support!

Wow the browser app and the Windows 10 desktop app are buggy as hell, almost beyond being usable. The sad fact is when I tried Deezer about a year ago it was the same. This lack of progress really disappoints, especially given that the service overall is quite good.

I’m using the MS Store Deezer 4.32.20 and the Web app through the latest Firefox on Windows 10.

  1. Uploading MP3s through desktop app simply doesn’t work at all, neither through drag-n-drop nor upload button. You can select files, click OK and nothing happens
  2. No feedback when uploading MP3s
  3. Sometimes when uploading multiple MP3s through the browser (remember, through the app it doesn’t work at all), the process silently stops half way
  4. Filtering own MP3s doesn’t work in either desktop or web. Type whatever you want into the search box, nothing happens
  5. When you add a song into a playlist and then click into that playlist, the whole playlist becomes borked: you scroll down and it kind of scrolls through playlist multiple times and track numbers start over. In desktop app can be fixed by restarting the app or a page refresh in the browser
  6. When reordering tracks in a playlist it gets borked in a similar fashion to #5. Restart or page refresh helps
  7. When you delete a track from a playlist sometimes it remains visible until you restart the app or refresh the page. Sometimes instead of the track been deleted, some other track disappears until you restart app
  8. Multiple ‘eventual consistency’ issues, e.g. you add a track into a playlist, it shows ok, then you refresh the page and it vanishes, then you refresh once again and it’s back
  9. When you search for something and click on a search result, the back button sometimes doesn’t work, either does no effect or takes you to some random places of the search history

Do you guys have any roadmap for the apps or something? The app quality is just ludicrous, even some React sample apps written by year 3 students are better quality than Deezer.

Userlevel 1

Sorry, scratch #1 please. It works through the desktop app, it’s just very misleading because there’s no visual feedback on upload.

  1. When you click on ‘Select MP3s’, then select the files you want to upload, then they start uploading (silently) and you scroll all the way down, it only goes down 40 tracks and the files being uploaded appear as 41, 42 and so on. When you then click on the new files, Deezer plays different tracks (apparently the real 41, 42 and so on). Restarting app/refreshing page helps
  2. In addition to #4 there’s also no sorting in the MP3s tab, so it’s actually impossible to find anything in this tab
  3. Group operations are impossible in the MP3s tab. You can’t click on one track, then hold Shift and click on a few tracks down so it highlights the range of tracks. Instead you have to tick the box on every single track, which is extremely tedious
  4. There is no way to organise your playlists (folders, hierarchy, collections etc). If you have many of them (I have about a hundred) it becomes extremely difficult to navigate. Also the only available view mode in the playlist tab is tiles, so you can’t put them in a list and sort in different ways. Good news is that the search box actually works.

I really apologise for being so negative, because Deezer in fact is awesome. On the bright side:

  1. I can sort search results yay! (hello green service)
  2. I can properly upload my music without those weird tricks (again hello green service)
  3. Mobile app is not too bad
  4. Flow is amazing
  5. Overall Deezer seems to have more music (or it’s just more music that I listen to)
  6. Real shuffle, instead of that joke of a shuffle in the green service

I actually appreciate all comments here @alex_the_v it's also good to know your whole process in listening, step by step.

The truth is that our MP3 feature hasn't been updated for a long time and we're finding it hard to prioritise improvements to it at this moment. There's a lot of demand for fixes and other features you may spot here in the forums.

With that in mind, there are major updates scheduled for the desktop app this year. Please stay tuned and you'll see! :relaxed:

In the meantime, I'll let the teams know about what you've said.

I have deezer pinned to my task bar, sometimes when I am listening I can hover over the deezer icon and it gives me the opportunity to skip back, play/pause, or skip forward a track. Other times, i hover over the icon and don’t get that option, and have to open the app to pause, skip, play a track. Why can’t I control the app from the taskbar everytime?

Really high RAM usage on Mac OS Apple Silicon using the Deezer app, it uses the most ram on my machine!

It’s definitely a memory leak because the RAM just keeps going up!

Morning. When I listen to this song over the windows desktop app, I hear a loud beeping sound at about 0:34, at 1:36 the playback stops and this error message pops up. A restart and waiting until later like it says didn’t help. Doesn’t matter if it’s in online or offline mode, just doesnt work.
Edit: Works fine on the phone and the web page.

Thanks for reporting it @Fabian Grimm it played fine on my side. Try deleting the app's cache and trying again. Keep me posted!

Hey @gbrohammer yes, this is a recurrent problem we have with our app. But don't worry, it's been on our devs' radar for a while now and we've got some important updates this year, in hope to improve the performance of the app drastically

Hi @gemhigs it should be working all the time, maybe you spotted something unusual. What's your app version, please?

Hi, the version is 4.32.20.

There doesn't seem to be any pattern of when it appears and when it doesn't. Tried the usual when it doesn't appear of logging out and back in again but that doesn't solve the problem.

@Rudi 4.32.20 desktop Windows 10 still crashing 🙂 This issue is not always but if there it’s max. one time on a day.

@gemhigs I have same issue but I think it can be Windows bug because on Spotify I had it too.

Thanks @Rudi, works great again now.

Hello

I get a weird error when starting the app on Win 10. Just did a clean install. Thought it would help but it didn’t. Getting the same error after reinstall. Note: I did update my Windows a couple of hours ago, so maybe there is an issue with one of the updates or. maybe there is an issue with that I run an SQL server, which I need for work purposes and there is a clash between the app and the server, since the error look like an SQL server issue?

More on the error here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb4073393-fix-the-data-area-passed-to-a-system-call-is-too-small-error-when-you-start-a-desktop-bridge-application-on-a-sql-server-5ae0994d-023a-d32b-3aad-526500b53993

Also note that the version found here: https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download?platform=win32&architecture=x86 works fine. The version here is 4.32.20.
Looks like only the version on MS store fails to start and produces the bottom error.

Have you started from scratch how I advised to you before? Because it’s only possibility, I guess.

I really wish you luck, because desktop/web/xbox app is totally bad.

  5. Overall Deezer seems to have more music (or it’s just more music that I listen to)
  6. Real shuffle, instead of that joke of a shuffle in the green service

That’s true! But for example:

  • When I connect iPhone to my car via bluetooth, it turns on Deezer Repeat playlist. No idea how to turn off...
  • Podcasts are available in Czech, but no content compared to Green Service
  • Social features are missing, because people don’t care about Deezer
  • Radio station services is missing. I can find station via search, but I can’t play. Super weird.
  • Deezer original playlists put CZ and SK together. I hate it. We are two different countries with different languages. I don’t wanna listen slovak songs in CZ playlists :(

So, why should I stay?

Hi, recently my Spotify subscription ended so instead of renewing it I decided to try and see if other services could be a better alternative.

After looking I found Deezer and looking at the plans pricing and overall features I decided it could be the one, but I’ve found myself dealing with a couple of issues and bugs on the macOS app which honestly deters me from upgrading to Premium (let alone the affordable Hi-Fi plan, which was the reason I wanted to try it).

My (Intel) MacBook is running macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 and Deezer 4.32.20.14 (which is the latest version at the time of this writing).

So here are the major (hopefully only) bugs/issues (some are about the music catalog, but still issues) I’ve encountered while using Deezer and its app for the past 3 days:

  1. Some artists (specially small or Indie ones) are missing.
  2. Some artists (specially small ones) have their discography with major gaps. [e.g. Blair (also under Evan Blair), Clans, Deal Casino, Guytano, Harry Strange, etc.].
  3. Namesake artists (specially those one-wordedshare the same page, mixing their discography which makes it incredibly difficult to find their albums/songs. (e.g.  Blair, Danny, Denny, Henry, Gray, etc.).
  4. Just like both @Paul Taylor and @alex_the_v said before:

The Mac version of the App still doesn’t work properly, when you click on “Artist” or discography, after the initial click the links stop working.  very frustrating.

On the verge of giving up… i’ll switch to the browser version… hopefully that works.

When you search for something and click on a search result, the back button sometimes doesn’t work, either does no effect or takes you to some random places of the search history

  5. If the Deezer app window is maximized (a.k.a macOS’ “Full Screen” mode), whenever you go to another app and come back to Deezer the page refreshes and takes you to the top, which is super annoying if your were deep down in that page looking for something. And this happens every time you leave and come back!

For issues 4 and 5 I’ve been quitting and reopening the app to fix it just for the issue to come back after 15-20 min. This is just ridiculous.

Now, those are the ones I’ve encountered after just 3 days which makes me wonder how many I haven’t, and all of this is just so sad because I really like the fact that Deezer and Spotify are very similar in terms of features and library size (except for issues 1 and 2), and Deezer’s plan pricing is so much better than Spotify (and has CD quality too!).

So I really hope someone reads this and take it to the Deezer team and they fix these bugs/issues so I can just switch once and for all!

Thanks in advance,

Joe.

P.S.: Sorry for such long post.

Thanks for the feedback @Jure Simon we'll certainly pass it on to our devs.

Hey @jirikovoego

Fair enough, you have some points where we need to improve, of course.

Yes, our SDKs are getting a much-needed update this year and we're working on stuff from scratch. Connectivity is what we want to improve this year because we also don't want an app that has bugs and makes users frustrated.

The Xbox app is also getting a much-improved update soon. Stay tuned, subscribe to the topic, and keep an eye on the community - you'll be able to decide better along the year.

In the meantime, @jirikovoego @Jure Simon have a great week!

Hey @JoeBro1907

Don't be sorry, we love the long posts here! So detailed and full of important feedback.

Ok, let's tackle it bit by bit. Content-wise, you can have a look here (we're more than happy to try and fetch those missing tracks for you):

Now about the other points in relation to our desktop app, there's no hiding. We're developing significant updates for it that should cover most if not all of these shortcomings (media keys, Bluetooth buttons recognition, fullscreen oversights, etc). Right now I'm unable to provide more details apart from assuring you all that we're taking care of these things because there are many conditions to be met. I'd love to be more transparent and reassuring but there's always the risk of missing a deadline and making users more frustrated. Stay tuned to the community and send me a PM if you wish - I'll be the first one to share news once we've got them.

Have a great week!

Thank you @Rudi that’s really reassuring knowing that there’s someone you can talk to and they’ll let the team know!

I can't wait to get that update and get those issues fixed! I’ll sure hang tight! I wish you a great week too!

I can't wait for it either @JoeBro1907

I use the desktop app on a daily basis to be able to test these issues and also track issues. I also wear Bluetooth headphones and I miss using media buttons as the web player does.

Lastly, I'm very eager for when we get gapless playback too!

Besides, it'll make me really fulfilled once I can tell you all that these things are no longer a problem :thumbsup_tone2:

Yeah I noticed that too! Also it’d be nice if it didn’t take so much to load a song… But I can live with that, for now...

We're working on that too, our player, to improve performance @JoeBro1907 everyone here at Deezer is fed up with bugs  but we're working on long-term improvements, that's why it takes longer.

Thanks for the feedback @Jure Simon we'll certainly pass it on to our devs.

Just wanted to let you know that I resolved this issue. The issue was with the older version of Sql server. After update, the issue is gone 🙂 .

Hey,

I have my Deezer Desktop App (Windows Store as well as the one provided under https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download?platform=win32&architecture=x86) crash on me seconds after login.

Each time I uninstall, reinstall, it opens and after login it crashes.

I already reinstalled my whole machine (for another reason ;)) and this behaviour persists. I am running a really clean setup, no firewalls, no Adblocks etc.

Any tips?

I can’t listen to Music in Firefox eiter, because Deezer doesn’t support the browser. :(

Best regards,

Carl Philipp
