Please properly implement the Last.fm Scrobbling API! Here: https://www.last.fm/api/scrobbling

For start, tracks should be scrobbled only if they've been played for 50% of their duration or for 4 minutes, whichever sooner. Currently, Deezer scrobbles them regardless (and only after the next song has started).

Second, please also make Deezer send the "Now Playing" notification immediately when the track starts.

Implementation of any other aspects of the API are appreciated as well. Thanks!

-Renne
this is not such a good idea, it should be possible to configure itself as it is convenient.

It happens that there is a good song, but I don't want to listen to it now, but then I can find the history

That's not how any other last fm scrobbler works though, including their own scrobbler. It's only supposed to track stuff you've actually at least 50% listened to (or x minutes of, I forget the minimum for very long tracks)
Ok well this is still a disaster for Deezer for me. It's gotten worse and worse since I first posted here, so much so that scrobbles sometimes take days to appear if they appear at all.

I have almost stopped using Deezer now thanks to this, and won't be coming back until you fix it.

I also noticed something very weird about this bug. I think it might have to do with being signed in to multiple browsers on multiple computers. Because when I started playing some tracks on Chrome PC from my home computer over the weekend, rather than scrobbling what I was listening to, it suddenly started to scrobble some tracks to last FM that I had played the week before from Chrome on a Mac at work! No clue how that could even be related, but it appears deezer have truly screwed this up somehow.
My scrobbles also appear randomly sometimes days after I listened to the songs.

Deezer please finally fix it! Otherwise I have to quit my membership and switch to another streaming service. Streaming services are all the same, my lastfm account is unique I don't want to get it messed up...

Give the user to configure as it is more convenient
Now that scrobbling again works, roughly speaking, it would be very nice to proceed with implementing it properly. As a reminder, here's the Last.fm Scrobbling API: https://www.last.fm/api/scrobbling

Various opinions have been presented on preferred ways of scrobbling. I would say that it suffices to just follow the Last.fm guidance. It only makes sense that track plays are recorded similarly across the landscape of music software and users. So here's how (quoting):

When is a scrobble a scrobble?

A track should only be scrobbled when the following conditions have been met:

  • The track must be longer than 30 seconds.
  • And the track has been played for at least half its duration, or for 4 minutes (whichever occurs earlier.)
As soon as these conditions have been met, the scrobble request may be sent at any time. It is often most convenient to send a scrobble request when a track has finished playing.

And as for how to do it - like this:

Thanks!😉
As Deezer neither uses the "Scrobbling now" feature (aka "NowPlaying" showing the currently scrobbling track with a yellow background in Recent Tracks) nor scrobbling after 50% of track length, you also have a gap on your Recent Tracks list of your Last.fm profile between showing the last scrobbled track and waiting for the current track to end in the Deezer web player or their other apps, as Deezer only submits a scrobble when the next track begins. This is bound to irritate users who are not aware of this, because you never see the currently scrobbling track on your Last.fm profile and so might think scrobbling isn't working at all.

Another pet peeve: please fix the missing ampersand symbol in artist and track names of your scrobbles, it still creates wrong entries in the Last.fm database like Marina the Diamonds, Florence the Machine, Derek the Dominos, David Lindley El Rayo-X etc. This might get caught by Last.fm's autocorrection, but only for known artists and tracks which already have been autocorrected.
Glad that the duplicate scrobble issue has been fixed but as the others have said before me, will the team be implementing these features to deezer as you guys said 7 months ago? I'm not trying to be rude but it seems you guys really drop the ball on really minor things that shouldn't take long to fix at all.
Also the ampersand issue is interesting because the tracks it scrobbles incorrectly link to weird artists if the artists have an ampersand in their title (e.g. Mumford & Sons becomes Mumford sons) but clicking on the artist in last.fm redirects you to the actual artists.

Example from my library: https://www.last.fm/user/jbowwow02/library/music/Mumford++sons/_/Delta
It looks like the Deezer API does not provide information about the currently playing track, so it may not be possible to use the related Last.fm API request for showing "Scrobbling now" in the Recent Tracks list of your Last.fm profile. See this new idea of providing an API endpoint for this and vote for it:

Other than that I am quite happy with the reliability of Deezer's internal scrobbling, as it constantly submits scrobbles since the last hiccup in the new desktop app. Furthermore it seems to cache offline scrobbles during these hiccups, because the missing ones were added to my Last.fm profile afterwards.

This "scrobble when the next tract begins" also irritates people that skip to the next track. If you listen for more than 8 - 10 seconds of a song but then you skip to the next, your barely listened to track gets scrobbled. After a 5 minutes session of skipping through your own flow (because you're in a bad mood or something) you can end up with some 30 - 40 scrobbles 8 to 10 seconds apart. And then the shakespearean question arises "to delete the scrobbles or not?".
Yep but in my case it's almost always a definite delete. I've been using Pano Scrobbler on my phone to edit and fix scrobbles with the ampersand issue. It's really quite annoying when you listen to albums with 2 or more featured artists and you have to go through so many tracks to get it to scrobble right.
Weird that some specifc songs with comments in parenthesis at the end of the track refuse to scrobble that part.

A couple of examples

Zimbabwe - New Navy, instead of, Zimbabwe (Flume Remix) - New Navy

All I Want - Dawn Golden, instead of, All I Want (Manila Killa Remix) - Dawn Golden

Test Recognise - Seekae, instead of, Test & Recognise (Flume Edit) - Seekae

The last one has both the ampersand issue and the partial title dropping issue but I thought I'd mention it anyways. As far as I can tell this issue only really happens with specific tracks (maybe they aren't tagged correctly in Deezer's database?)
FYI: Last.fm subscribers can edit the scrobbles in their libraries now, see this announcement:

https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/website-update-12-march-editing-scrobbles-subscriber-feature

This means that you can correct the mistakes that the internal Deezer scrobbling option makes on your own, e.g. adding "&" in missing artist, album and track names or adding and/or deleting any "Remastered..." tag. Of course it would be better if Deezer fixes this, but at least you have an option now to clean up your library this way.

Great news!
I wonder what is wrong with the forum editor sometimes, I just typed a long Thank You plus explanations, and after saving it, my posting was shown empty. Luckily I still saw what I wrote when editing it, so I could save it in Notepad.
Thanks, regarding Deezer scrobbling errors I will use it for scrobbles of artist profiles like "David Lindley El Rayo-X" who is one of my favorite guitar players:

Luckily I only have a few scrobbles of those, so it will not take too long to correct them manually one by one. When I noticed it back then, I mostly quit using Deezer for his music, and I guess other Last.fm users react the same way when they notice it for their favorite artists like Marina & the Diamonds etc.

It will take longer to fix the missing title additions in brackets on the recent Beatles reissues like the Deluxe Editions of Sgt. Pepper or the White Album. The additional tracks and remixes are missing these title additions which identify the individual tracks, so there are way too many Deezer scrobbles for the usual tracks and none e.g. for "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Take 9 and Speech)" and similar tracks:

Hopefully one day the autocorrection on Last.fm will catch all of these errors automatically, but that will take some more time until the developers have enough free resources to handle them. At least subscribers can already fix them now in their libraries.
Hi,

Deezer does not scrobble certain artists/titles correctly.

For instance, it scrobbles Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds correctly, but Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes would appear as just "Frank Carter The Rattlesnakes". This also happens with song and album titles (e.g. You & Me would just scrobble as "You Me").

I've also noticed that The Walkmen's album "Bows + Arrows" won't scrobble at all.

Additionally, tracks uploaded under "My Mp3s" on Deezer (i.e. tracks not available on Deezer and uploaded by the user) are not scrobbling at all.

This has been a recurring issue ever since I started using Deezer and it is quite frustrating to have to edit each and every scrobble relating to a certain artist or album.

Could you advise on this issue?

Thanks,

Luka
Hi there @Luka.Urbac

Please register your vote here for a better Scrobble experience. @bluezzbastardzz could you please cover a few points to help our fellow user understand what's available or not at the moment?
I think he has already voted for this idea and just wanted to summarise what has already been said here and elsewhere. Actually the only way to avoid Deezer's internal scrobbling errors is to not use it, but rather use the web scrobbler browser extension with the web player. It can also save your edits in case you have to edit scrobbles and apply them automatically the next time you play that song. HiFi playback would not be possible with that method though, so I don't use it.
Editing wrong Deezer scrobbles in your Last.fm library has just become a lot easier, because you don't have to edit each scrobble manually anymore. So now you can add the missing ampersand symbols in artist, album and track names quickly now, also missing additions in () when they are necessary to distinguish between tracks. This is a subscriber-only feature though:

https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/website-update-25th-april
Hello there, good fellow resilient and insistent Last.fm users,

There's one specific album that's not scrobbling on the Deezer Windows 10 App, neither on the Deezer Android App. ONE SINGLE ALBUM.

I don't know what does these apps have against Esperanza Spalding's Emily's D+Evolution. I know it's an odd one, but if Arrigo Barnabé can be scrobbled, why not Esperanza Spalding?

On the web version it does scrobble, though.

Hope to hear from you, @Flo.Deezer and @Anja.
My guess is that there exists a redirection on Last.fm for the spelling you or rather Deezer chose for the album title, as there are at least four different ones:

https://www.last.fm/search/albums?&q=Esperanza+Spalding

So if you disable automatic correction of spelling errors in your Last.fm settings, you might find where your Deezer scrobbles originally went to and on which album page they were actually counted.

There also might be an issue with the "+" character besides the different apostrophes which might have been left out by Deezer's scrobbling, but I did not check that. In any case, if you are a subscriber, you can edit those spelling errors now in your Last.fm library.

When I compare the available albums in Deezer's web player and desktop app, the web player does not show the Deluxe Edition while the desktop app only shows that one, not the normal one. So that could be one hint what happened (keep in mind that title additions in brackets are left out by Deezer's scrobbling option), furthermore Deezer uses the ´ apostrophe character, not ' in the album title.

OK, in the meantime I have checked scrobbling with that album, and for me it does not scrobble anywhere with the internal option of Deezer. So probably it works for you in the web player, because you have installed the Web Scrobbler browser extension. I have no idea why the internal scrobbling does not work for that album though. By the way, it also scrobbles with the Spotify desktop app.
Yeah, bluezzbastardzz, you figure it right. It's not a matter of spelling. It doesn't count as scrobbled at all. It's only scrobbling on the web app because of sweet Web Scrobbler. Deezer doesn't understand the beauty of that album!

I tested with some other songs suggested by Last.fm's community manager, and it seems the Plus sign is the cause for not scrobbling a track, e.g. anything from Florence + The Machine or 1+1 by Beyoncé. He thinks Deezer might not convert these special characters (+, &) to the hex codes. But it's on Deezer's developers to figure this out, as these songs scrobble properly from elsewhere.
Are scrobbles delayed for anyone else? Noticed this a couple hours ago but I assumed it was something on last.fm's side but other apps seem to scrobble fine.
