[FEEDBACK] What do you think of "Flow"?

Long ago I tried to use it. But since I don’t really like apps fishing for my data, I don't use it much.

I want to explore new music and I don't want AI to pick always the same kind of music for me.

It’s far too repetitive, there needs to be an option “Do repeat tracks for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year” I’ve created a smart playlist on Musicbee which easily does this, and more (play count and rating considered), so when I get feed up of Deezer repeating itself I go back to playing Musicbee when I’m using my desktop at home in the car Deezer just gets switched of.

Two fixes:

  • Show ‘up next’ songs instead of hiding what’s coming up. I care more about what’s going to play that what has already played.
  • Allow ‘add to queue’ and ‘play next’ at any moment no matter how the music started (single song, playlist, album, flow, mix, radio whatever).

I don’t like flow that much. Too much music I don’t like, too much the list hits, too much jumping back and forth with my favourite band and some different style.

Utterly useless.  I liked two K-pop songs, flow is now 100%, no exception, K-pop.  Disliked every artist.  Favorited actual music that I like.  No change.

What bothers me most is that it plays too much of my songs marked as favorites. For that I can play just that. Flow should learn from genres, authors that I listen. And then play something similar. Maybe it would be good to have some settings, like: check if you would like that flow play your favorite songs, check if you want to hear only songs that you haven't played yet ... I know, that perhaps most of listeners like only to hear songs that they already now. I would like to find what I've been missing. What is good out there (in my taste) but haven't heard it.

Thank you for asking. Hope to see some changes.

Maybe a slider in the settings to choose the ratio favourite - new songs. For example: if you want 30% of all songs in Flow to be your favourites and 70% new discoveries, move the slider to 30%.

As others are saying here, the shift in moods and genres is too random and wild. My flow will shift from soul coughing to limp bizkit to dave matthews band to system of a down to midnight oil. I know because it did that to me today. It makes it impossible to get into a groove as it keeps jerking my attention away from what I’m doing.

Lately (since start 2022) Flow is sh*t.

I listen mostly to rock/metal, also in my own language (dutch)

But now flow is giving Folk singers, Apres ski music, rappers and even childrens songs just because “they are Dutch”.

I have been clicking on “do not recommend artist” about 2 times a day for a month now.

Hi there, recent convert from another platform. Pretty sure flow is badly broken...

I really like the flow concept a lot and for the first few days it seemed great, it took my suggestions and built something good. Bit heavy on the AC/DC, but who doesn’t like a bit of AC/DC … :grinning:

Then at some point about a week ago it went into “Synthwave”. I like and have favourited about four synthwave bands, out of (so far) 117 artists I’ve got favourited. And now it won’t play anything else. No matter how many times I say “Don’t recommend this artist” or skip the track, it just finds ever more obscure synthwave bands to throw at me. This has been going on for about a week.

I’ve tried adding more artists, albums and tracks to my favourites and nothing much is happening. I have now hit “don’t recommend this artist” on so many synthwave acts that flow now often errors out and takes me back to the default playlist starting with that Elton John/Dua Lipa track.

Is it wrong to expect to go straight into Flow?

I'm loving flow so much. It's given me lots of new artists to listen to. One thing I would like is to be able to restrict by genre. So Flow Metal, Flow EDM, or Flow Hip Hop for example. It would be ready nice for days where I feel like something different.

I'm about to give up on flow completely. I have a bunch of artists liked, mostly rock and pop (American)... Today flow has decided that I listen to nothing but Spanish language /Latino music. No matter how many songs I dislike or skip, that's ALL it plays.

I’m a very new user who imported likes over from a competitor. So far, Flow seems cool. I would like more of a mood option, and I listen primarily on a PC. So I’ll be voting for that feature.

I would like more for Flow to take over after an album is over, and for the genre / tempo / tonality of the album to influence the mood of Flow; so far, the pools of album radio seem rather shallow, and include tracks from the album I ust listened to too frequently.

Hey @nipsy

Flow Moods is currently only available for smartphone apps. However, for desktop/web version there is an idea where you can vote:

Thanks for your feedback @nipsy
We are glad that you enjoy your Flow :nerd:
We do have Flow Moods. You can check all the info here: https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115004367189-Improve-Your-Deezer-Flow-And-Play-Flow-Moods#how_to_play_flow_moods

Is that available in the Windows app, I don’t see it.   If I click the Flow Icon it just pauses or Plays

I pretty much only listen to Flow now, takes a while (months) to get to know you but once it does its almost brilliant.

Only downsides:-

 - sometimes plays the same song (sometimes even one after the other) as that song is on multiple albums

 - “Don’t reccomend this artist” missing for some atrists (noticibly the Beatles)

 - Daren’t listen to a track to see what it’s like, it will return to my flow for eternity.

 - Just because I “liked” the human league does not mean that I want to listen to “Bronski Beats” “Smalltown boy” twice a day!

Would love to be able to :-

 - exclude Live and Compilation albums.

 - Have some kind of “mood” option would be nice, same flow but with emphasis on rock/regge/80’s depending on my mood

Flow is terrible, to say the least. It’s an infinite mix of the same songs from my Favourites with some “classics” mixed in-between, in the same order that it was yesterday, and the day before.

I have a post above lamenting about playing too much country music with no data to support this in my listening habits or profile. Today I fire up Flow, the first seventeen songs are, you guessed it - country.

I can’t fight it anymore. I’m looking into refund policy and will see you all on Tidal.

Flow on!

Flow for me has evolved considerably over the past year. There are still days of both “love it” and “leave it” but giving it time and a greater number of recommendations has certainly made a huge difference. I also notice that the Deezer recommendations are responding well to my listening habits, and I get a lot of new music on my Sunday, Monday and Friday recommendations. Cool as well to check out album pages and track mixes. No, not perfect as Flow and Deezer cannot predict my mood, but that is why I have a variety of playlists to choose from. Better than Apple Music that I migrated over from, and other family members who use Spotify are similarly impressed.

I’ve just been testing out Flow in my free trial, since it’s one of the main features motivating me to switch to deezer. Unfortunately it isn’t really working for me. I would say about a third of my favourited tracks are kpop, but Flow is giving me 100% kpop. I’d like to get a variety of music from all the genres that I like, not just one of them.

I have favourited more tracks from other genres and a confirmation message says “Flow has been updated”, yet I have skipped through dozens of kpop songs and have yet to be given anything even remotely in the same genre as the new songs I’ve favourited.

My guess is that Flow is giving far too much priority to “popular” songs in general, since even the kpop that it gives me is just from a handful of the most popular kpop artists, it doesn’t even give me songs from less well known kpop artists even though many of them are set as favourites.

I have also had the issue where the same song is recommended repeatedly. Screenshot below. This is on the latest iOS app version and it happened just before I posted this. In fact this happens even after saying “Don’t recommend this artist”.

My post from a few days ago, with a bit more detail than the rant above.

One more bit, for trying to understand how this works. If I skip a song, and skip it every time its played, and skip another artist with similar style every time it’s played, does Deezer pay attention to this? It seems like that would be a big help in tuning what a subscriber likes, but I’m not seeing it, and these days I skip about 9 songs in 10 when listening to Flow.

Not happy at all. Second year subscriber here, Flow went straight to hell when I liked two country artists. Now that’s 90% of the content in my Flow. 123 artists and five genres, and Flow decides to focus extensively on Country.

Flow seldom plays other tracks from favorite artists, just those that I’ve favorited.

Despite the request to not play track or artist again, it will inevitably mysteriously reappear further down the playlist.

Changing mood is too restrictive. I ‘m never in just one mood, but I’d sure like to let you know to play less of #artist or #genre (like #Country or #Vince Gill!)

Please make Bluegrass a separate category from Country so that I can actually listen to some tracks without the torture of country music haunting me further. They are not the same.

Why have I never, ever gotten any notifications for anything but New Country?

Stop pushing YOUR genre on me, when I’ve done everything I can to tell you this isn’t what I want to listen to.

I was so pleased the first year, hearing new artists and a good mix from my favorites. You knew me and my tastes better than Spotify and it was impressive. No idea what happened, but the change was sudden and significant.

So far I'm a bit disappointed with Flow to be honest. It seems to only play music from either the rock or rap/hiphop genre for me. The last week or so it's been pretty much all rap. Before that it was pretty much all rock.

The genre does change if I select a different mood but personally I just want to start flow and have it serve me a variety of music (genres) because most days I'm not looking for a particular mood but rather just want a random selection of music.

I'll give it a bit longer but honestly if it doesn't start getting better in the next few weeks I'm going to cancel my subscription since flow was pretty much the whole reason I signed up in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. No worries about repeating yourself.

To give credit where credit is due: The sound quality of Deezer is superior to some (not all) other services and importing of favorites is an easier process compared to some. However, other services seem to have a better interface and do a better job of suggesting new (or new to me) music.

As of this moment, I don’t think Deezer is the right service for me. Not when I see them continue to say they are working on complaints people have had for years. It’s a shame.
