I wanted to chime in as my annual membership is coming up for renewal.  The playlists are definitely an ongoing concern for me, most specifically because of the trouble I have of playing anything that does not have an English name that Alexa can identify properly.  Oh the constant headache of selecting songs by “Gabri Ponte”…..

I’m hoping for some good news on the new skill, especially as I use this more and more in my car via Echo Auto.  In the meantime, I think I’m going to have to revert to the free service and give a shot at Amazon Music monthly hoping for the best here.

Love Deezer, then discoverability of My Flow is mostly awesome, but that playlist support...

Hi Santama,

See my post above in this thread, the one about about Alexa routines, for a simple workaround for those difficult names.

Cheers,

G

Thanks for that!  Yes, routines work as a way to select particularly difficult artists, though no substitute for actually playing your own play lists which would be ideal.

Hoping that new skill comes soon!

I agree, personal playlist support is the #1 item on my deezer wishlist. I’m glad you found the info on routines helpful.

Hi @deewit

You're right, and that's why we're working on it 😉

Been working on it for over two years? It’s ridiculous that this basic functionality is still unavailable.

I did not renew my membership as the Alexa support is an issue for me, and have been going month-to-month with Amazon music but still hoping for some news from Deezer on an Alexa skill.

Amazon still has trouble with non-English names, but the ability to use the app and "send" the song to my echo makes it workable. For me, that feature alone, more than anything else, is what I want from Deezer.  Otherwise it is maybe a bit better with voice recognition, but not much.

I'm still checking in here because after a year of Deezer, it simply does a much better job with  "My Flow" than anything comparable.

Any update on a new skill?

I switched over from Spotify & I don’t understand why I can’t play my playlists through Alexa with voice commands with Deezer. This was asked for in December 2018!! How do you expect to keep subscribers when you say “you are working on it” for over 2 years!

Because you can listen to Neil Young on deezer?

Is there any update on the Alexa skill?  Even a Beta?

Been loyal to Deezer for a decade but about to cancel because I can't play my playlists through Alexa. Had a quick Google search and the best I can find is 'we're working on it' (for over 3 years). Very poor. This is how you lose customers.

Glad to see I am not alone in this, still waiting.  Have read that Deezer has had some management changes recently. Perhaps this will now be a priority?

This basic feature has been on the road map for over 3 years. I was one of the original US Deezer users (when the only way to subscribe required a Bose Soundlink).

I eventually went to spotify because of its technical features. Of course Spotify can play user playlists on Alexa. It also allows you to actively manage the queue from the spotify app. You can add, remove and move songs around in the live queue. It also works flawlessly with multiple speaker groups. And, the flexible API has allowed for hundreds of integration apps.

I came back to Deezer. The Flow feature is by far the best and adapts to my music. All of the music I listen to is available (unlike Spotify) and the sound quality is superior.

Many users have fled Spotify and are looking for a new platform. Tidal, Amazon, and Apple are all gaining subscriptions but none of their integrations work well with Alexa (surprisingly,  not even Amazon Music).

So, Deezer has a tremendous opportunity to grab users. But with even the most basic feature of user playlists on Alexa missing for over 3 years, I have to wonder if Deezer will ever get close to Spotify features.

I am here for now. But unless Deezer gives serious attention to technical features (playlists, multi-room, and real time control to name a few) I'll be going back to Spotify as soon as the music availability issue is resolved.

I presume that Deezer has seen a jump in subscriptions since the Spotify problems began. It is important to recognize that these new subscriptions are not because Deezer is the best in class, but because the first choice can't fully come to the dance.

Deezer, please take this opportunity to step up your development and make your product the best and first choice.

3+ years and still no update.  Please stop saying “coming soon” its when obviously not coming anytime this decade.

Thought I would check in on a whim again and the skill still has not been updated? Really?

Yup, still no updates….

It looks like all of us Deezer users must be insane if we keep believing that we will ever be able to listen to our playlists on Alexa.

Perhaps it is time for a mental health holiday and find another streaming service.

@musicfanatic815 , I’m being borderline pedantic, but indulge me and define “fully functional”?

deezer is capable of that by your definition.

you classed apple and spotify together, as distinct from deezer, hence my question, which you didn’t answer.

no worries, moving on.

cheers

For me only thing Alexa does is play “flow” and specific artists that i request from Deezer. Alexa has not been able to play specific playlists from Deezer.  Alexa also does not allow “liking” tracks from Deezer either.  Those functions work just fine with Alexa when used with Spotify of Apple Music.

@musicfanatic815 ,

I have a number of Echo devices and use them daily. Deezer will play genres, artists, genres, songs, albums, and playlists on requests. Not sure how you are using it.

Spotify has Spotify Connect, which is unique and adds functionality, at the expense of being Spotify.

Apple does not allow control from your phone or computer the way Spotify Connect and Amazon Music do (casting). It does allow for the use of personal playlists. Spotify and Apple are not even close in functionality.

Every music service has its own level of functionality with respect to the Alexa skills. Tidal is also extremely limited, Qobuz and YouTube Music don’t work at all (save Bluteooth), and Amazon Music of course works well.

My point, I suppose, is that only Spotify and Amazon Music might be considered “fully functional.” Deezer has done extremely well considering what it has achieved compared to the other services, and given its comparative size and resources.

I think the issue is user playlists. The ones made by Deezer seemed to work, from what I recall, provided you knew its name. If you make your own, then you are out of luck.

Just checked in to see if skill has been updated...looks like it has not. Still miss My Flow, but being able to cast from my phone to my echo from the app turns out to be an essential feature.  There were songs I was literally never able to play with Deezer on my echo devices at all.

Hello there @santama

Yes, we are all aware that Alexa doesn’t support personal playlists, after all, that is the whole thread.

This is what is responded to: “For me only thing Alexa does is play “flow” and specific artists that i request from Deezer. Alexa has not been able to play specific playlists from Deezer.”

Cheers

It's a real shame that there has been 0 updates provided on this issue in maybe over 4 years this saga has been carrying on for far too long and the only updates given have been "developers are aware of the issue". Not good enough and having been incredibly patient it's a real shame that I am going to have to finally cancel my Deezer subscription and switch to either Amazon music or Spotify.

Possibility of close desktop app via right hands top exit button is fixing for years. Demand for Alexe skill is far far away for decades.

It's been over 4 years since the first comment about lack of integration with Alexa and/or Sonos! Come on guys what's the hold up! Although I see Deezer as an option within Sonos the play list is limited add not at all what I get using the Deezer app. Using the Deezer app, I can't choose Sonos as a streaming device! Very frustrating and may be the reason I cancel our subscription. 😖
