Deezer playlists with Amazon Alexa

Came looking for the same answer as lots of others.  Is there really still no way to play a personal playlist on Alexa?

The issue I’m having:  I listen to a lot of foreign songs.  Alexa can’t find most of them because it can’t pronounce anything that is not English.  My work-around is to get a song playing, then ask it what that song is called. Then I try to pronounce it that way.  This is what I use playlists for, and it worked on Amazon Music.

Problem: I can’t get Deezer to find the song without using the app. Then in the app, I can’t get it to play over my echo unless I share my bluetooth, which means Alexa knows nothing about what is playing.  So basically I can’t use Alexa to play the music I want.  Very, very frustrating; if I have to use my phone to play songs, I can just get them on youtube.

Any other suggestions here?

Hi there @santama

Thank you for your support and for detailing your feedback here with us.

I've got an Echo at home as well, and only a few of the playlists can be found and played through the skill - according to their title (so they don't get 'confused' with other titles). I know this isn't ideal, but we're continuously working on this so that it gets better. I'll be passing your comments to the right teams here at Deezer :v_tone2:

It is now 2020 when do you think Amazon echo dot can play created playlists from deezer as i a have a lot of playlists if someone could let me know that would be greatly appreciated thanks as my mom loves my music when doing housework and such or when revamping my literature library or movie library again if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hey @James Gillrie

I'm on the same boat here at home. I find ways to best use the skill with my Echo but obviously I agree with you we need more work to be done.

But don't worry, we're on it - because Amazon has to approve everything we do, the development takes time. Thank you very much for supporting Deezer and for your patience :v_tone2:

Hello.

What is the current status for playing user playlists on Alexa?  I guess you're really struggling getting this implemented. Any progress?

Thanks for bumping this up @delafieldbutt we haven't heard from the teams in a while so I've chased for an update - hopefully we can get some news very soon - I also have an Echo at home and I'd die for a couple of Deezer playlists these days!

Hi Rudi, were you able to get an update from your devs, this is a feature I think a lot of us have been waiting for for some time now.

Wow it’s Sep 2020 and this feature still hasn’t been enabled on alexa?

I just recently got an account and found this out here.
I regret signing up with deezer and gonna cancel soon...bye bye.

Hi there @SSD @Jacques Marais

Thank you for your honest feedback.

I've taken the opportunity to ask our developers for an update on this. I'll be reaching back once I've got a response :thumbsup_tone2:

C'mon guys. Does it really take over a year to implement something so basic? We don't need to play general playlists, just our own playlists saved on our accounts. Third year as a premium subscriber and might be forced to move elsewhere

What does the community recommend? Actually thinking amazon music or apple music. I just need a decent library and able to play my playlists on my echo devices

Thank you for your honesty @Montypaks

Our teams have got back to me and confirmed they're working hard to bring this to our Deezer skill but it takes a bit longer than usual as we need the device manufacturer’s help along the way. I believe we've been closer than ever before and that this should be completed in the near future. I'll be following it up to update you along the way :v_tone2:

This really shouldn’t even be a question anymore. Multiple years of not being able to have the Alexa skill select personal playlists with a premium account is far from acceptable.

All your competitors - Apple Music : Spotify : Amazon Music are able to integrate this function within the Alexa skill - it’s not hard to implement and month after month users here are getting the same half hearted response.

I can see lots of work being done by your devs on the iOS app - however I suspect they don’t feel voice assistants are that important, however voice assistant usage is up ten fold over the past 12months with that to quadrupole over the next 18months.

This really needs addressing, the Alexa skill is linked to each users account - there is no valid reason for it not to be able to query the personal playlist references within the database and stream each track from that on the Alexa device.

Thank you for your feedback @brookers we all agree with you it needs to be addressed. However, it isn't as simple as you described. Especially because Amazon is the manufacturer of the device and we have different developers for different apps. This is to say that we also agree we feel voice assistants are very important. Rest assured, it has been ongoing work and the rewards are going to be ready very soon.

One of the things we're currently working on is the way our catalogue integrates with the skill - and that's why sometimes you can find a certain track on the app but not with Alexa. We're automating several processes to eliminate this issue.

I have an Echo at home, and I'm personally monitoring this with the teams at Deezer so that we can get it over the crossing line in the near future. Please subscribe to the topic for updates :v_tone2:

hee @Rudi , just here to add to the rest; would be great if this could be developed!

best

Rik

@Rudi I'm sorry but what you're telling these poor people is absolute bullshit.

I am a software engineer myself, and developing an Amazon Alexa Skill requires zero input from Amazon whatsoever. It's an independent JavaScript application.

JavaScript is one of the easiest coding langs on the world. It's object oriented and loosely typed. So give me a direct line to your developers and let me ask them why they are too incompetent to implement things such as:

A) Stop playing random things after the requested title finishes

B) Playing, shuffling and looping songs and playlists

Because I have made an application for Amazon Alexa devices which can do exactly that with my local playlists.

So any and all excuses you and your developers are giving out here a nonsense. It's just incompetent people who scam users for money. Go Spotify or Apple Music folks.

Hey @adrifcastr

Appreciate your input, perhaps you can just moderate the language a bit so that it sounds more productive for the whole of the community.

This isn't a technical challenge so to speak, we can certainly develop a better integration. But I invite you to have a discussion with our developers through here and maybe we can clarify some of the real challenges when building a skill for a music streaming platform on a third-party device.

Dear @Rudi ,

this needs to be solved soon. Otherwise this is a real show-stopper.

Please update the community about any improvements of the skill.

Thank you and regards

I agree with you @florig1, thank you for your feedback and support.

Devs are aware of this, more to come in 2021, I hope. I'll definitely keep you posted!

I just switched from Google+Spotify to Alexa+Deezer as the Alexa Echo is in my opinion better for audio and Spotify couldn’t recognize my own Playlists for now with Alexa.

It seemed at first better with Deezer as when I call for one of my own Playlists it plays it. But I realized that it is played as a flow and not a playilst so shuffle is not possible.

From what I see in this thread, it is normal but the Deezer developpers are working on it.

Do you have any idea of the delay to offer us this support on Deezer ?

For me it seems the killer feature to supports our own playlist fully as the Deezer App on Alexa. So for now, I started 3 month free account on both Amazon Music & Deezer and I will end up with the best of Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music at the end of the trial delay. For sure for audio quality sake, I will stick with Alexa a assistant / speaker.

Thank-you.

Well, this is not a big shock for me. You guys have been working on a Deezer alarm for years and have not managed to do it yet. The same goes for Deezer and Alexa integration.

No wonder you are stock with few million users while Spotify is rocketing up its users every year. Meanwhile, you have improved the GUI, I give you that, but integration with other devices and additional features, you are way behind and you are losing the game. Why don’t you enable paid add-ons for Deezer? Developers will be keen to develop add-on(s) for your labs and sell them.

Thank you for the feedback @YasharBSH @fmelle

@YasharBSH we have been developing a sleep timer, not an alarm. And the feature has just been completed for both Android and iOS apps :thumbsup_tone2:

We certainly believe you do have a point when it comes with integration with other devices and other connectivity features. That's why we've decided to pursue this in 2021, to elevate or service to the level you deserve. We'll then focus a bit less on new features, so that we can get the essentials worked on the right way - stay tuned, you'll see progress :v_tone2:

Came to check if there was an update on using playlists.

Recently subscribed to premium, and this continues to be a huge problem especially in the car where I use an Amazon Auto.  Basically I am limited to “My Flow”.

I’m sure the problem is more complex than it seems, but if there was at least a way to play “Favourites” this would go along way.

Thanks for the feedback @santama we would love to make it happen for all users but as you mentioned, it is more complex than it seems. I will pass the feedback to our developers and hopefully there will be progress during 2021.:relaxed:

So over a year later and still not implemented. :(

“Soon” really is a subjective term it seems.

I would just like to chime in and say I’d really love to see this. I was completely shocked it wasn’t included already as it feels pretty basic to me. I spent a few minutes confused why it kept playing some garbage when I’d ask Alexa to play my child’s playlist, before realizing it was playing someone else’s. k…?

Also, Flow is crap. It constantly plays music that isn’t even remotely similar to my interests.

Alexa support for playing specific songs is (usually) pretty good, and albums works similarly as well.

But I’d really love to see support for playing my playlists. I don’t give two craps what is on someone else’s public playlist. I make playlists because I like certain music.

Is there an estimated release time frame for this? 2021 is pretty vague. Or are there other solutions or work arounds for voice assistants to play user playlists?

I’m glad to see this is being worked on, and that other users want it as well.  I’m a little concerned about the “hopefully” bit :) ….it is pretty essential I think.

To address the questions by SikoSoft, there is no workaround I am aware of other than using the app.  I have found though that My Flow actually really works well, and is the reason I became a premium member (along with being able to upload your own songs to a private play list). It does take time though to learn what you like, but for me has been an invaluable way to discover new music.

Hopefully there is an update soon.
