@musicfanatic815 ,

I have a number of Echo devices and use them daily. Deezer will play genres, artists, genres, songs, albums, and playlists on requests. Not sure how you are using it.

I think the issue is user playlists. The ones made by Deezer seemed to work, from what I recall, provided you knew its name. If you make your own, then you are out of luck.

Just checked in to see if skill has been updated...looks like it has not. Still miss My Flow, but being able to cast from my phone to my echo from the app turns out to be an essential feature.  There were songs I was literally never able to play with Deezer on my echo devices at all.

Hello there @santama

Yes, we are all aware that Alexa doesn’t support personal playlists, after all, that is the whole thread.

This is what is responded to: “For me only thing Alexa does is play “flow” and specific artists that i request from Deezer. Alexa has not been able to play specific playlists from Deezer.”

Cheers

G

It's a real shame that there has been 0 updates provided on this issue in maybe over 4 years this saga has been carrying on for far too long and the only updates given have been "developers are aware of the issue". Not good enough and having been incredibly patient it's a real shame that I am going to have to finally cancel my Deezer subscription and switch to either Amazon music or Spotify.

Hi @deewit

You're right, and that's why we're working on it 😉

Been working on it for over two years? It’s ridiculous that this basic functionality is still unavailable.

Been loyal to Deezer for a decade but about to cancel because I can't play my playlists through Alexa. Had a quick Google search and the best I can find is 'we're working on it' (for over 3 years). Very poor. This is how you lose customers.

I wanted to chime in as my annual membership is coming up for renewal.  The playlists are definitely an ongoing concern for me, most specifically because of the trouble I have of playing anything that does not have an English name that Alexa can identify properly.  Oh the constant headache of selecting songs by “Gabri Ponte”…..

I’m hoping for some good news on the new skill, especially as I use this more and more in my car via Echo Auto.  In the meantime, I think I’m going to have to revert to the free service and give a shot at Amazon Music monthly hoping for the best here.

Love Deezer, then discoverability of My Flow is mostly awesome, but that playlist support...

Hi Santama,

See my post above in this thread, the one about about Alexa routines, for a simple workaround for those difficult names.

Cheers,

G

Thanks for that!  Yes, routines work as a way to select particularly difficult artists, though no substitute for actually playing your own play lists which would be ideal.

Hoping that new skill comes soon!

I agree, personal playlist support is the #1 item on my deezer wishlist. I’m glad you found the info on routines helpful.

Glad to see I am not alone in this, still waiting.  Have read that Deezer has had some management changes recently. Perhaps this will now be a priority?

Just signed up for a free trial and I am stunned that not only does this basic functionality not work, but you’ve been trying to implement it for a year or more. Straight back to Spotify for me once my free trail ends.

That's right, you can't play your own playlist through Alexa yet. We will update our community as soon as we have any more news about it. Thanks

Hey @Rudi it seems this hasn’t been solved – yet. I’ve been Deezer user for years, Alexa user for years and I love the integration but am missing two really important features:

  • playlist shuffle (not supported)
  • support for playing premium users (your own) playlists

I know that this is an issue, but it would be really great if you (Deezer dev team) could commit to a date. I feel that “during 2021” is not good enough since this topic is open for the past two years. Can Deezer commit to a date when we can expect this to be solved?

Thanks,
Emanuel

Hi @tragester, indeed it correct what @jirikovoego said. Playing personal playlists on Alexa is available since a couple of months ago.

Regarding Sonos integration with Deezer, we are working very close with them to release great news during 2024.

This year, Sonos started the own voice control in specific countries and Deezer works great with Sonos commands.

So who knows what great new features are been cooked. Just hope you can stay with us to see these releases.

We can certainly commit to a date, in general, but we've done that in the past and due to technical problems we couldn't stick to it.

Being a developer myself (though in completely different department) I understand this, but from what I’ve seen in this thread — that is now more than 2 years old — is that this Alexa support is not very high up in your development priorities :(. That being said, if developers cannot commit to a date then there will certainly be no will to do this in a timely manner.

I certainly don’t want to push it, but we are talking about a request that’s two years old. For a major platform that’s getting more gain every day, especially now in a pandemic where people work from home (and they want to listen music on a device, rather than on their computers; me included).

Anyways, from my perspective the priority should be as follows:

  1. Option to shuffle a playlist currently playing (this should be a top priority since we’re talking about something that should be a standard, as it doesn’t make sense to always play the same songs in the same order – that’s dull)
  2. Possibility to play own playlists

Is there a way to get the first thing done in a timely manner? Can you check with the development team?

Thanks

Well… since we are talking about patience, this thread goes back more than two years, so excuse me if I’m a bit doubtful…

I cancelled my subscription and will consider re-subscribing if and when this will be finally implemented. Unfortunately without this feature your service is of little use to me.

I switched over from Spotify & I don’t understand why I can’t play my playlists through Alexa with voice commands with Deezer. This was asked for in December 2018!! How do you expect to keep subscribers when you say “you are working on it” for over 2 years!

I, too, am on a trial period with Deezer and use my Amazon Echo Studios as my primary speakers. Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify all permit playing one’s own playlist. Tidal does not, and Qobuz doesn’t work at all on my Echo Studios.

Amazon Music HD sounds fantastic and its catalog is exhaustive, but Alexa Cast is buggy and Amazon Music in general is unreliable, frequently stopping the music play, sometimes (oftentimes) after the first song. So I support Deezer getting this right before releasing it. But yes, three years is a long time for this project.

Spotify Connect is the gold standard in my opinion, it makes using the Echo Studios a real pleasure. But so far I prefer Deezer for the sound quality (which exceeds Spotify’s IMO), the user interface (including a pleasant color palette and layout), the song catcher feature, the smooth music play, and the overall feel of the app. Spotify’s pending hi-fi may close the gap for me, especially given their noticeably larger catalog, but I want to love Deezer.

Apple has no casting feature, but playing my playlists is a big plus, and their sound quality has improved with the lossless, Dolby Atmos, et al. upgrades. They seem to have every song imaginable.

Tidal sounds great, but even with my excellent wi-fi, it has buffering issues. And Tidal connect does not work with Echo, and no personal playlists through Alexa. It does help that they name the daily playlists by number, “My Mix 2”, which makes it easy for Alexa to recognize and play them. Deezer’s use of “daily” for all of their daily mixes means I cannot listen to them through Alexa (unless I am missing something?).  So re-naming those or implementing a connect feature would be huge.

All said, Deezer has an opportunity to join the ranks of my streaming services. A Spotify Connect-style feature would cement that, and being able to play the daily playlists and my own playlists would certainly help.

Thank you to whoever is reading and listening.

Hi Rudi - I appreciate your responses but this is taking a crazily long time to implement. This option has been enabled with Google Home for ages (I’ve been using it for over 1 year). That said, I’d like to move to Alexa for other functionality reasons but no user-defined playlist support has been stopping me. The only solution I have is to change to Spotify for example.

How can it be that your Dev team at Deezer cannot Prioritise (or even provide a target release date) for such an important (and basic) functionality request???

...I also have good news: our new Alexa skill is almost done...

How close is almost?

I’m on my second trial sub’ with Deezer and I cancelled it last time (two years ago!) because it didn’t work properly with Alexa and it still doesn’t! There are millions of active Amazon Echo devices in the world and the biggest single purpose they’re used for is music streaming and Deezer doesn’t think that’s a priority feature?

It’s not just the fact that I can’t request any personal playlists using Alexa, it’s the fact that when you request Deezer Editor playlists you don’t always get those either, you get some obscure album or band with a name that’s vaguely similar.

You can’t enable Shuffle Mode on any of the available playlists.

If I request my ‘Monday Discovery’ playlist I get what appears to be someone else’s Monday Discovery playlist full of awful stuff I have never listened to.

So it seems you don’t give any priority to music or playlists previously played or favourite-d on each account, you just flail around looking for something with a vaguely similar name and play that? The Deezer app’s are good but Deezer on Alexa is just clueless. Are you ever going to sort this out or do I just switch back to Spotify again?

Same question here, any update? I kept my account alive on deezer free and didn’t delete my app in the hope that these long-promised updates would be here soon.

I saw the Flow update, which is a nice touch, but that Alexa skill update and personal playlist support is the big one.

Streaming in hifi to my Echo Studios as part of the hifi plan also seems a reasonable request, since Tidal does that for me, and for less money.

I would love to support deezer. Somebody help me out here.

Hi there @GropplerZorn
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, it's super useful and well written.

Please check this out:

And bear in mind, I also have good news: our new Alexa skill is almost done - stay tuned to the community!

Hi,

Is it now possible to listen to our playlist with Alexa ?

In two years of developpement there is really no update ??

By curiosity, isn’t the problem on the side of amazon ? It seams that alexa can’t undersdand words, or assembly of words, which aren’t in its base, and so, it can’t understand the name of small artists, and playlists ?

However in two years those problems should have been solved...

hee @Rudi , just here to add to the rest; would be great if this could be developed!

best

Rik

I'm one more adding my voice to the cause,..

Hello.

What is the current status for playing user playlists on Alexa?  I guess you're really struggling getting this implemented. Any progress?

J

This really shouldn’t even be a question anymore. Multiple years of not being able to have the Alexa skill select personal playlists with a premium account is far from acceptable.

All your competitors - Apple Music : Spotify : Amazon Music are able to integrate this function within the Alexa skill - it’s not hard to implement and month after month users here are getting the same half hearted response.

I can see lots of work being done by your devs on the iOS app - however I suspect they don’t feel voice assistants are that important, however voice assistant usage is up ten fold over the past 12months with that to quadrupole over the next 18months.

This really needs addressing, the Alexa skill is linked to each users account - there is no valid reason for it not to be able to query the personal playlist references within the database and stream each track from that on the Alexa device.

So over a year later and still not implemented. :(

“Soon” really is a subjective term it seems.

I would just like to chime in and say I’d really love to see this. I was completely shocked it wasn’t included already as it feels pretty basic to me. I spent a few minutes confused why it kept playing some garbage when I’d ask Alexa to play my child’s playlist, before realizing it was playing someone else’s. k…?

Also, Flow is crap. It constantly plays music that isn’t even remotely similar to my interests.

Alexa support for playing specific songs is (usually) pretty good, and albums works similarly as well.

But I’d really love to see support for playing my playlists. I don’t give two craps what is on someone else’s public playlist. I make playlists because I like certain music.

Is there an estimated release time frame for this? 2021 is pretty vague. Or are there other solutions or work arounds for voice assistants to play user playlists?

Please, hurry am tired of calling out each song every time. #PlaylistsOnAmazonAlexa
