Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the space for all those improvement calls you kindly make to us when looking at how to make our desktop and web apps better platforms.

What should I post here?

  • if the app needs User Interface or User Experience (UI/UX) enhancements, let us know
  • if the app should be compatible with certain devices or audio outputs, we're with you
  • if there's a cool integration we should consider, shout out
  • and if any feature is missing, don't forget to mention

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version :floppy_disk:

Hey, I’m using the windows app for almost 2 years now. But I really had to change to the web app.
On the windows 10 app, the back and forward buttons (from page navigation) simply won’t work. Every time I click on an artist, on a playlist, on an album, I’m never able to go back to the previous page and need to search for whatever content I was looking before.

It seems this issue was already reported several times, but to this day, no solution was implemented.

I was able to solve my probloem. Just updating the app didn’t make the buttons work. But after uninstalling, manually deleting the remaining deezer folders from windows and then cleaning my disk (I used CCleaner for this), and then installing the latest version, the buttons now work like a charm

So please ignore my previous message, it turns out I’m just an idiot lol. :joy::rofl:

No, you aren't! @Hizium our latest 5.2 seemed to have dealt with this issue we've had for quite some time :relaxed: glad you're enjoying it!

Hey @Pablo Discobar

Thanks a lot for the feedback and for trying us out. Could you please expand a bit more on those features you mentioned? Maybe just explain the experience a bit more, so that I can make a nice report for our teams here at Deezer

Thanks, Ian @Ian Cahill I agree that would be ace!

Hello @Rudi !

Thanks for your interest.

Exclusive mode: This allows an application to claim audio device for only its own use. No other application can send another stream to the same device. Under normal circumstances, different applications can send different sample rated sounds to the audio device, hence windows mixer resamples all of those sources to a target sample rate which is the selected setting in the audio settings:

This is how we hear everything at the same time; For example windows sounds, youtube music and a game sounds being heard at the same time. However, this comes with a cost. That resampling degrades audio quality and internal windows audio processing negates some of the fidelty during the conversion. This is where exlusive mode shines. It claims the audio device exclusively (windows 10 - Wasapi API - event mode), simply enabling audio application to talk “directly” to the audio device, bypassing all windows sound processing engine. So, if my output is an external dac, then the audio app will send stream directly to the DAC, in a bit-perfect manner. The output will be cleaner, “clearer”. I hope this explanation helps.

Force Volume: I don’t know the exact technical implementation background. But I can guess that It is the second step bypassing the leftover “volume processing” by the windows (or the app). The app will send the stream directly to the device without any post-processing (dimming or turning up the volume) and leave all the volume to the external dac/sound card. In order to be able to prevent people from getting hearing-loss on their headphones or hi-fi speakers being maximized, the deezer app should allow an “audio output device” to be selected and claimed exlusively. Currenly, deezer only uses what is the primary device selected in windows. This is not good and needs to change…

To make these two ideas look *original* to the Deezer, I would give my opinion on how to be able to do it “differently” in Deezer with my poor paint.net skills. This is only one way that can be done:

Looks good enough? 🙂 I hope this clarifies it. I also hope Deezer will NEVER jumps to the *loudness* bandwagon and only serves the audio as in its original form.

Important side-note: When this option is enabled, logically, the normalization and volume settings should be “grayed out”. Because, in order to achieve bit-perfect definition, those *bits* need to be exact and shouldn’t be modified, right? :)

Amazing, @Pablo Discobar!

Great paint skills haha don't worry. This will get our devs intrigued for sure, I wasn't expecting this much detail - really appreciated :clap_tone2:

I’d like to increase UI scale, but didn’t find such ability, even via `Ctrl +`. It’s kind of accessibility feature.

You mean zooming in and increasing the font size @AlexWayfer?

Accessibility is something we're definitely in need of improving, generally. Will pass the feedback on.

Yep, zooming and font size. I do it with browser version for more comfortable view and navigation.

Have you tried to increase them in Android settings? Maybe they use global settings??

Gotcha @AlexWayfer but it does work on mine!

Are you on a Windows, right? The Ctrl + should work. Try clicking anywhere inside the app version and then Ctrl + to see if it works. If not, press H to get the exact hotkeys. On the top menu, on view, you should also have the option.

Used the Windows app for a few minutes, then closed it only to find that the music was still playing.

Went to settings to turn off the close to tray feature. There isn't such a setting.

NO! This is irredeemably bad design! Close means CLOSE!!! And to not even have it as a SETTING?!?

FIX IT!!!

Not sure if it was mentioned but just want to get it out there, album artwork next to the songs in your/any playlist for Desktop. Deezer has been great!

In the previous windows version the app would crash randomly and regularly. I read that updating to the latest would solve this but it is still happening. I'm on 5.2.0 now and I have no way to tell if this is the latest version. It doesn't say anywhere in the app there is an update. There is no versioning on the windows store. Nowhere I can google shows a changelog more recent than a year ago.

I really prefer deezer to spotify but if i have to keep reinstalling it I will just switch back to spotify.

Hey @Anders Blirup Worm

Our devs and I agree with you. But developing that hasn't been squeezed in with the rest of the crucial things we have to do and that you also deserve.

Thank you for your support, hang in there a bit longer, we have this on our radar. For the time being, vote here:

Hey @MattNicholas thanks a lot for the feedback, quite a nice addition, right? And no, we haven't heard that yet :relaxed:

Hi @BaronVonCoco sorry to hear that, I totally understand you. The app asks you to restart when an update has been downloaded. You can double-check the version by clicking on Deezer/About.

What happens exactly that leads to the crash? Have you tried a full reinstall? (by that I mean, uninstalling the app, removing the Deezer folder from appdata, restarting your PC, and redownloading/reinstalling the app). Give us some more details here:

Sorry, I’ve created a topic for this, but it seems that it belongs in here…

The Deezer app icon in MacOS doesn’t follow the human interface guidelines for macOS 11, utilising the whole icon area.

I decided to keep that topic alive too @golimpio, because our Deezer Legend continued the discussion with you there. Hopefully our team can sort this out int he near future!

I think player panel needs a rework

What is it playing right now?

Thanks @STeeL835

Could you please be more specific? What do you think we can improve on?

I see you are tweaking deezer’ appearance little by little, so I think you can improve the layout of this panel too, giving more focus on essential elements like media buttons, seekbar and the main info about the current track. The problem on the screenshot is that it gets many elements in such a way that you can’t see even 1 character of a track name. And the screenshot isn’t even that narrow (though it is minimal width for the app as of now).

Probably, make it responsive by moving/regrouping/hiding elements in popups/menus, reducing paddings as panel gets smaller and smaller.

I’m not a designer, but I tried to make something that would fit more things, just for example. Not insisting on it, but just to show some ideas.

It’s more dense, but has room for track info, volume slider, bigger track cover, bigger seekbar (with less screaming default color), and queue source. Clicking track cover could open the queue panel.
Seekbars here don’t have color only because I chose these whitish covers

Love the designs @STeeL835 so glad I actually asked you for more detail

I've passed this on, thanks a lot! Hopefully it can be made a reality.

I got a small annoyance. The notification in the upper right corner (e.g. “We won’t recommend you this track anymore”) is covering the arrow that closes the song queue. And when you’re browsing something else, you can’t press “Don’t recommend” for the track that’s currently playing without opening the queue. So you have to open it, then you have to wait for the notification to disappear before you close the queue.

Oooh, we like these ones @Gaffer13 the small annoyances can perhaps be sorted quickly. Thank you for reporting it and explaining it in detail! :relaxed:

To be honest I don't know if someone post it before but can we expect a "Share" button on bottom next to "Lyrics", "Add to playlist" etc.?

It's currently not on the plans but this week I was missing that button myself - so I agree it makes total sense to have it. Instead, we currently have to access the queue for that @JohnyV3

So thanks for your feedback, I'll be discussing this further with the teams and will use your comment to leverage a need for this to be looked into

One thing I find a little annoying in the web version is tab title changing to the name of the currently playing song on tabs that aren’t playing the song. So if you opened two more Deezer tabs, e.g. with artists you wanted to check out later, all three tabs will have the same title, but only one tab will have a running player. These days it’s not a big problem because the browser will display the sound icon on the tab that’s actually playing the song. But it’s still a bit confusing, and it’s not like you can just use any tab to control playback - the player will show warnings about not listening from more than one device.
