Windows/Mac Deezer Desktop/Web App - Feedback for improvements

Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the space for all those improvement calls you kindly make to us when looking at how to make our desktop and web apps better platforms.

What should I post here?

  • if the app needs User Interface or User Experience (UI/UX) enhancements, let us know
  • if the app should be compatible with certain devices or audio outputs, we're with you
  • if there's a cool integration we should consider, shout out
  • and if any feature is missing, don't forget to mention

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version :floppy_disk:

Thanks for the feedback @Alblinux will pass it straight to the Search teams - it's a very good point :thumbsup_tone2:

Hello Deezer:

I don’t know if this is the meaning, but the UI of Deezer looks like this on an M1 MacBook running macOS 11.0.1:

Will this be fixed and left with? (Seems the names of playlists are with words in a reversed order at least)

Right mouse button click to show context menu

I remember that before redesign Deezer allowed to right click tracks in addition to buttons and showed their context menus, after redesign this feature wasn’t re-implemented, now seeing this in Spotify I begin to miss this in Deezer.

Also, why this menu got so big? I don’t use tablet mode, so probably you could make it smaller for desktops

There is a playlist bug easily reproducible.

Create a playlist with songs from the Deezer library.

Add 1 or 2 songs from My MP3s to the playlist.

Move the location of one of the new My MP3 songs to earlier in the playlist.

The playlist will end up with duplicates of all of the songs, i.e. if the list has 20 it will now have 40.

Hey @shadomeson

Thanks for reaching out. Try restarting the app after restarting your computer, it should get back to normal :thumbsup_tone2:

Hiya @STeeL835

Great to hear from you. Yes, I personally like the feature myself, I'll let the teams know.

Are you referring to the community menu? If yes, it's a new one and it should not look big on mobile or desktop. It's supposed to streamline the navigation here :nerd:

Hey @mmhnto

Super cool that you reported this to us in so much detail. I've passed it on, hopefully it can be sorted soon :v_tone2:

Are you referring to the community menu?

No I’m referring to Deezer’s new context menus. Now they look more like modals than compact desktop context menu popups. The menu items look like they are made for touch mode.

Also, playlist covers disappeared, search box in “Add to playlist” doesn’t receive focus automatically, and scrolling isn’t prevented - you can move mouse scroll wheel (or put 2 fingers on a touchpad) and the menu will disappear when page starts to scroll. (I don’t remember if previous implementation handled the last 2 points, but I can’t check, so I can only say that I feel like it did)

Optimizing client applications

Hello, in this topic I want to touch on the optimization of client applications, their work with the system.

I urge users of this forum to publish problems with application optimization in this thread.

Content delivery

The main task of streaming services is content delivery.

The Deezer application (Windows, v4.28.0, Electron), as far as I understand, upon an event of the need for audio data, starts loading them into RAM, simultaneously writing them to disk.

Downloading data from Deezer servers is performed without an open download speed limit, and at the same time filling N the amount of memory with slow writing to the disk, which is a problem.

As a solution to this problem, I see the gradual loading of data by the duration of listening, the creation of parameters to limit the download speed of data and limit the allocated memory, and with this assigning a smart auto mode to these parameters. I would also like to be able to install the cache space and downloadable audio streams.

Sincerely, Dmitri :no_mouth: .

Excellent feedback @STeeL835

I'll pass it on. The desktop app needs quite a few improvements but our teams are now fully aware of the shortcomings, due to feedback brought by the community, mostly. The good thing is that our big focus for 2021 is to improve connectivity and our desktop app as a whole, because of the potential it has to link up with other devices as well - especially for HiFi streaming.

The menu disappearing with the scrolling could be a bug, so I'll alert our devs about that :thumbsup_tone2:

Thank you for your optimisation remarks Dmitri @MrSkoper really good!

@Rudi

Gapless playback on desktop app for windows? It seems like it’s not available, is it?

Thanks

I enjoy the white theme but maybe make the search bar a slightly diff shade to differentiate it. Also, The bar at the bottom that shows the song playing should also indicate what the current streaming quality is.

My biggest gripe about Deezer, and this could be an unpopular opinion, but I much prefer when I add a album, it automatically adds the artist in the “artist” category and when clicking on a artist/band under “artist” category, it only shows the music I added instead of their main page (like how Apple does it).

That along with 24bit audio, ill be a member for life!
