5 great albums to enjoy in HiFi, by our editor Yannick

Our music editor Yannick recently reviewed some albums that are now available in FLAC quality. If you’re a HiFi subscriber, you can enjoy these classic albums in 1,411 kbps Lossless, CD quality  Give them a listen and let us know what you think of these 5 albums. Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here (1975)A classic for every audiophile. Following on the global success of Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd pays tribute to its first charismatic leader, Syd Barrett, with a concept album in the form of a space-time journey. Wish You Were Here combines classical instruments and synths in an impressive communion. Hovering and dreamy, this masterpiece deserves the best sound quality.Daft Punk – Random Access Memories (2013)Random Access Memories is a celebration of the sound of the 70s. The French duo recruited session musicians to perform live instrumentation in order to limit the use of electronic machines. The album features could not be more eclectic with Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Nathan East, and Pharrell Williams. The final result is impressive, you must hear it in Hi-Fi!Ludwig van Beethoven, The Symphonies / Karajan (1963)Herbert von Karajan recorded between 1961 and 1962 the first integral of Beethoven's symphonies in stereo. Its label, Deutsche Grammophon, supports this titanic project and enables this technological innovation. The result is striking: the quality of this recording propels us into the heart of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.Miles Davis – Kind Of Blue (1959)Kind of Blue is considered by many critics as the best jazz album of all time and Miles Davis' masterpiece. Recorded on March 2 and April 22 (1959), at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City, this album has considerable influence on jazz, rock, and classical music. Feel the magic of this album in Hi-Fi!Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)Obviously, if we have to keep only one Michael Jackson album on a desert island, many would choose Thriller! With the help of the legendary producer Quincy Jones, Jackson released an album where "every song was a killer".. and he's right! Thriller explores different genres including rock, post-disco, funk, and pop. An iconic album to enjoy in Hi-Fi quality!

Your tracks, without gaps!

Do you know those albums where you can't figure out when a track starts and ends? Melodies seamless moving from one to another, like an eager humming-bird from flower  to flower …  Of course you do! Put the philosophical moment aside, you've been asking us about this feature for quite some time now  We've worked and worked hard to finally deliver to you a standard you deserve: Gapless playback.  The feature isn't surely new to the world but it took some sweat to be implemented in our super vast catalogue. In fact, we're doing this gradually so that your listening experience runs smoothly, without any hiccups - literally   For those who aren't familiar with the technical stuff, this is what we're talking about: Audio formats such as MP3 and FLAC add tiny little gaps of silence before and after the track, which can be disruptive to listening when the content recorded wasn't intended to have gaps between each track -  a good example being a recording of a live album or concert.  Gapless playback will remove these gaps at the beginning and end, to offer an improved listening experience. For now, this is for our mobile Android and iOS apps - and for HiFi users only. This is because our FLAC catalogue doesn't need re-encoding (the tracks are ready for the feature) but our MP3's will need some polishing before everyone can enjoy it. And remember, there's no need to switch anything on, we've taken care of that for you  So if you're on Android and can't wait, update your app to 6.2.1 (you must be a Beta user) and if you're on iOS, this should already be a part of your life but if it isn't, you just need to wait a bit longer   For our desktop app and web users, don't worry, we're finishing it too  What's the first album you're listening to? Let us know below! I think you'll know my choice  Not on HiFi? Check out our offers here  Can't wait to get your Premium subscription on gapless too? Please see here for more info  It's being rolled-out gradually - so wait for your turn
