Hey, Siri
Play my Flow on Deezer! :nerd: :radio: :notes:

We're excited to announce that Deezer is now available on Apple's HomePod and HomePod mini speakers. We've worked closely with Apple and external developers to make Deezer one of the few third-party music services available on these super cool speakers.

Availability

Starting today, if you're on iOS 14.5 with a paid Deezer subscription, you'll be able to access this feature.

Key Features

  • Music only for now (Podcasts and Live Radio to be added later)
  • HiFi support: given the HomePod impressive sound quality, we're eager to offer Deezer's high fidelity experience to HomePod owners

How do I get started?

From our iOS app version 8.35 and newer, go to the settings menu and search for "Connect with HomePod", follow the steps and you're ready to go!

Note: it could take a bit longer than usual for your HomePod to accept Deezer as the music service, so please be patient :relaxed:

Great news for Homepod’s owners!!

I don’t know too much about how they work. Are linked to one mobile or can have more connections? I ask this because if there is a homepod in a family and you ask Siri to play a song, by default it will play that song with the default iPhone/iPad/iPod Deezer’s account , no? or the first iDevice of the list.

Finally!  Awesome news.

Finally!  Awesome news.

Yeah, increasing favorite limit was hard ( they beginn from 0 ) , this kind of things are easier , and i’m sure more will come!

Could this be clarified a little please? How on earth could anyone know what “usual” means as this has literally never happened before.

So does this take minutes, hours, days or something else?

When it is accepted does the change go from “Hey Siri, play music x on Deezer” to “Hey Siri, play music x”? Or will I always have to add “on Deezer” when requesting something to be played?

Really pleased this has arrived just looking for little bit more clarity on these things.

Totally understand @gmcoates

We're talking about minutes, so you might not even be bothered about this.

And you can choose Deezer as the default service and ask for content without mentioning the name of our service :relaxed:

Great stuff, yeah I thought minutes and happy to wait as its a great update.

I have however done all the meetings for default on phone and HomePod however when I say “Hey Siri play my flow” I get told I need to continue on my phone, to prevent this I need to still add the “ on Deezer”, I will try other playlists and keep trying and see what happens.

Hmmm, interesting @gmcoates thanks for letting me know! I'll be passing this info right away to our devs working on the integration.

Just curiosity, have you restarted the devices after setting Deezer up to default?

Pretty sure I have restarted but I will try that again, will give everything a restart, phone, HomePod, watch the lot and keep trying.

Please understand I ain’t complaining I have Deezer music on the HomePod and that's awesome, still some kinks to be worked out but in general a great start.

I did ask for a playlist and was told it couldn’t be found although I know it exists, little stuff like that but will keep trying and enjoying, of course that might be because Siri isn’t the smartest smart assistant out there ;)

I understand, no worries @gmcoates super happy you can finally enjoy the integration!
Our devs actually came back to me to say the issue you referred to is on Apple's side, so they'll pass on the feedback and help smooth things out in due course :relaxed:

Further findings on using the HomePod integration with Siri. When I say “Hey Siri, play my flow” I am still told to use my phone, so that's not great. When I say “Hey Siri, play flow on Deezer” Siri responds with “Now playing Deezer”, so I tried “Hey Siri play Deezer”, this Siri command seems to play flow without having additional interaction. Not sure if that helps the devs.

I have now restarted all devices involved.

Ohh, I like this feedback @gmcoates! First hand! Thank you!

I highlighted your reply so that other users can hopefully see this and figure it out. And will obviously forward this to our devs as well

Would be good if others could let us know how great got on and if the find the same as I did or something else.

Another observation, when I say ‘Hey Siri, play “playlist”’ I get told it’s not able. However if I go and click the heart on the playlist and try again the same happens. Some time after that when I try it works, so something happening with playlists that aren’t ‘loved’ and a little time before Siri is able to respond.

Intriguing @gmcoates let's pass it on!

I agree about your point above - I was hoping for more HomePod users to reach out via our community. The thread is open so let's hope we get more testing

Hi, a little more feedback. I had flow playing and a great track came on which I wanted to add to favourites, when I tried I was told that this wasn’t yet implemented, would be another really useful feature to have.

Have two OG HomePods paired in stereo. Deezer integration works very nicely. Have installed the audioOS 15 beta profile which pretty much borks Apple Music but Deezer continues to work very well. To my ears the Deezer Hifi sounds nicer than Apple’s lossless implementation so far. I notice that if I start Flow with Siri it will often turn off after two or three songs. A similar issue occurs with Apple Music (switching the defaults between the two) “Siri play music’ will often end after two or three songs. Seems to be related to wifi latency or something. If I stream Deezer via my Beosound core it will stream all day with no problems at all. For what its worth it seems Apple have quite a way to go to make their lossless service functional (disabled in latest beta update).

Hey @1961russ

This is exceptional feedback, I must say. Thank you for sharing your unique experience with us and the rest of the community.

We'll work with Apple on improving the issue you mentioned above. Please keep us posted if you notice anything else, just like @gmcoates did above

Firstly, I’m loving the integration of Deezer on my HomePods, especially since I’ve upgraded to HiFi and this is the first time I’ve tried it. I’m finding the same as gmcoates above with Flow, but as long as I stipulate ‘on Deezer’, Siri plays it ok. I’ve been testing Siri to see if she can find playlists, and it’s been 100% spot on so far for me, as long as I say the words playlist and on Deezer. Maybe the integration has improved in the last month or perhaps from Apple’s side?

The only useful thing I can see that’s missing is the ability to add tracks to a playlist via Siri.  This can be done for Apple Music via the HomePod and apple tv for Siri. I’m told that ‘Deezer hasn’t supported support for this’. If it was possible for this to be added in future (maybe third-party users can’t access some functions, I don’t know), it’d be very useful.

I have a subscription with Apple Music til the 4th August, and a yearly subscription here. At the moment I have to stipulate Deezer to Siri. After my apple music sub runs out, will Siri just assume Deezer without me having to say it?

I’d like to thank Deezer for the level of integration you’re putting into the Apple ecosystem, and can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future (friendly hint again, Apple TV :grinning: ).

I'd love to have Apple TV with Deezer too @Logan_A

Thanks a lot for your detailed and honest feedback, how nice!

I also think that making a playlist with Siri would be awesome and that's something we can definitely keep on the radar to be developed in an near future

Hi maybe i can add something to the problem. If I omit the command "on Deezer" on my OG Homepods, Siri does not play anything and says that I have no music in Apple Music. When I test it on the Homepod Mini's, it works fine.

Thanks a lot for this @fischdenflo, super interesting. I've forwarded to our teams. Have a good weekend :relaxed:
