Scrobble Last.fm from Deezer not working

On my Last.fm-profile the same track is scrobbled all over again, though I'm sure I'm not listening to the same track 50 times in a row (I'm obviously scrobbling from Deezer). What is going on & can it be fixed?

Some scrobbles have appeared 7 days later. Can we get a status update other than that the issue has been referred to the devs?

Hi there, we are working together with Last.FM. The devs have informed us that they have understood where the problem is and are now looking into fixing it. Please bear with us 😉

@walter.dijkshoorn and @Sergey R - this has been going on for over 2 months now. I have cancelled my family subscription after a year and a half, as the customer service has been disgraceful so far.

Hopefully more users will follow suit and make deezer understand that this is an actual issue and that pinning the problems to last.fm will not make them magically disappear. "Passing the issue to the devs" is not a valid excuse when the issue has been ongoing for 2+ months.

You're absolutely right!

Got a temporary workaround for scrobbling with Deezer web player:

  1. Deactivate new UI in settings
  2. Use Chrome extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/web-scrobbler/hhinaapppaileiechjoiifaancjggfjm
Fingers crossed for Deezer to fix things on all platforms for good. 🤞

I listen mostly on mobile (iPhone). There does not seem to be any fix and it's been about two months since the issue started. The ping-pong between deezer and last.fm is incredibly frustrating, with neither wanting to take action and resolve this once and for all as the issue is "on the other side". Senseless.

I will now cancel my family subscription and look for another service. This is ridiculous.

Scrobbling with the new layout of the Deezer web player and the Last.fm web scrobbler browser extension works again with its new version 2.7.0:

https://github.com/web-scrobbler/web-scrobbler/issues/1756#issuecomment-435615476

Meanwhile the Deezer development has confirmed that there is a problem with their internal scrobbling option, so there might be a solution soon for it as well:

Thanks for sharing @bluezzbastardzz

I'm going to add these comments you made to the bug report around scrobbling here. Good news is that our team is actually going for improvements on this in 2021 :thumbsup_tone2:

yeah, not working again

@Scruff.McKenzie I merged your post into this topic as we've discussed this here already. We're in touch with last.fm and I hope this will be fixed very soon!

Yeah, it's the same for me for the last few weeks, was lagging for a couple of hours at a time but now just doesn't work at all. Unable to download extensions on my work computer so it needs to be fixed fast. Spotify is working HINT HINT DEEZER, HASHTAG FAMILY SUBSCRIPTION!

I have the same issue. With iOS\Mac devices.

As Deezer's fan I use it for many years. That problem is critical for me. Thinking about switching to another platform like Yandex Music or something like that 😞

@walter.dijkshoorn this thread has had 180+ replies and more than 8000 views (without counting anything posted to last.fm, reddit or elsewhere). Hopefully it will put some pressure on deezer to get things done or at least to revert all changes made to the last time the features in question were working.

It's an issue with Deezer's latest update to their player... 😩

Check the last page here for updates (and hopefully the resolution): https://en.deezercommunity.com/troubleshooting-and-tips-4/scrobble-last-fm-697/index4.html

So it kind of seems they’ve wiped their hands clean of any fault, even though there are no technical details given and last.fm seemed to have a better understanding of what might be causing the block/delay?? Very frustrating!

This is utter bullsh*t. Sorry for my wording, but it is.

I just tested it with foobar2k and the scrobble plugin from 2010 (!) and it works flawlessly. I even get the “Scrobbling now” icon in last.fm when the song is just playing.

Could you respond to the Support guy and point him towards this thread? Or share how you contacted him in the first place?

Thanks for your efforts :)

Not a problem! I did respond asking them to re-investigate and got a reply this morning:

Thanks for the reply.

We have started the investigation and will get back to you once there are updates.

We are really sorry for the inconveniences.

Which is better than nothing… hope they’re starting to take it seriously at least??

To get in contact I just filled out the form here: https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

It initially replied with a weird AI response saying there is no issue but did I want to speak to an agent and I said yes to that and then the above conversation happened. I think if more people start complaining they will hopefully put more effort into fixing it.

I just want my last.fm to go back to normal! :( haha

I am using Deezer for about 2-3 months, first trial, now premium. I've been using last.fm for years now, so having the ability to do so with Deezer was a big plus. However, quickly I realized, Deezer made quite a few shortcuts implementing last.fm, seems like they gave the task to a summer intern.

Last.fm scrobbling with Deezer has multiple issues:
  • Not using "now listening" - songs are not actively being repoted as being listened. Instead, they are scrobbled after being listened.
  • Improper scrobbling - The biggest issue here - the track is being scrobbled even if you skip it after a few seconds. Sometimes I like to play something random like Flow and just skip the songs I don't feel like listening, so I listen to every fifth-or-so song. The problem is that all of those skipped songs get scrobbled.
  • Multiple scrobbles - sometimes (for me twice or three times a day) song gets scrobbled 5, 10, 15 times in a row, even though I just listened to it once.
Your implementation of Last.fm is broken. Even open source and freeware solutions have it implemented decently. Please fix the issue and implement it the way it should be.

Yes, a known issue with Deezer’s internal scrobbling option, see e.g. this thread on the Last.fm support forum:

https://support.last.fm/t/no-scrobbeling-after-hours-using-deezer/106942/39

There is a workaround with external scrobbling apps, but you will get duplicate scrobbles with wrong timestamps then, so you should disable the internal Deezer scrobbling until it works properly again.

Can anyone from customer support address this issue? Is this just temporary or are we going to wait a couple of months for it to be solved, again? If so, please mark the question as not solved.

No scrobbles have appeared after 100+ tracks played between yesterday and today. Very disappointed.

Hello,
Today I faced problems with scrobbling to last fm. Last fm shows too big quantity of listened track while I listened only once to it.

This is a known issue and we have already reported this to Last FM. I'm sorry for that, hopefully it will get fixed soon!

This is probably not a Last.fm issue, for many other services integrate well with it. Even when Last.fm has this kind of issues, they are temporary and corrected afterwards. This is most likely to be a Deezer implementation issue, as has been stated before in this topic: https://en.deezercommunity.com/ideas/324/index1.html#post47140

So you guys really need to take a better look at your code.

I am answering you here, because this thread is more suitable than the other one, where it was about some option being absent :)

The delay, if it is merely a delay, is now longer than 72 hours. In any case, this issue should be addressed by the Deezer support team.

Using external solutions is not an adequate alternative, as you have to install it to for each platform and invite additional dependencies and maintenance effort.

Yeah it's stopped working on desktop and unable to download scrobbler extension at work.
This is becoming quite a large pain in the arse.

It is a known issue with the internal Deezer scrobbling, everything in brackets will not be submitted in the scrobble.

At the moment the internal scrobbling option of Deezer seems to be broken, it only scrobbled the first track for me using their web player, then nothing, then after about half an hour the second track I played, but with three duplicates, so something is definitely wrong.

You could try to use external scrobbling apps supporting Deezer in the meantime, e.g. the Last.fm web scrobbler browser extension for their web player. I think the official Last.fm Android app can also scrobble Deezer if you enable it in its settings.
