Deezer Hifi on Android TV not working

Userlevel 1

Dear sirs,

Unfortunately I’ve lost a possibility to cast music in HiFi quality from my iOS device to an Android TV since last update which added lyrics to chromecast on Android TVs.  Casting to my Nvidia Shield TV is without HiFi ...but with lyrics now. Of course would be great if you add HiFi support for Android TV app, but since i bought Deezer HiFi subscription I’m forced to use chromecast to my Nvidia Shield TV device which is connected to HiFi Stereo system. And the difference in audio quality is  really noticeable.

So, I have HiFi subscription. 2 weeks ago everything worked fine (except all the time my iPhone 11 disconnects from chromecasting after 2-3 minutes (but sound continues to play on Android TV and I can handle it) until this update with lyrics arrived.

iOS 13.3.1. (also tried casting from an Android 10 mobile phone. The same issue - no HiFi now)
iOS Deezer 8.10.0.3
Deezer on Android TV (Nvidia Shield TV with the last updates) 3.0.0 (02.07.2019)

Uninstalled/Installed Deezer both on iOS and Android TV - no result

Could You please help me to solve this issue?

Thanks!

P.S: yes, I’ve set HiFi streaming on iOS Deezer

Hi!

Is there any chances to expect HiFi support on Android Tv?
Have Nvidia Shield connected to the HiFi AV receiver with HiFi Stereo.

Thanks!

Hi there @Sic_zs

Thank you for reporting your experience to us and for your patience.

How have you established that it isn't playing in FLAC quality? I say this because of our new integration, which added the lyrics feature, streams in HiFi if the device is compatible, including Android TVs. But either way, I'm keen to look into this further and report to our devs. Please give us more details so that we can try and move forward with this :thumbsup_tone2:

Hi, Rudi!

Kind thanks for Your reply!

So, there is (must be) a “HiFi” watermark at the album’s picture during the playback. It appears now on my iPhone and an Android device as well. There was the same watermark on my TV during the googlecast (both on my phone and TV). After the last update there is not. So now, when I playback a song on my phone, I see this HiFi and after I launch casting it dissapears.

To be honest the sound during the chromcast seems to be better than using Deezer on Android TV, but it better to check:)

Thanks a lot and would be great to have full HiFi support for Android TV.

Hi there @Sic_zs

Thanks for coming back.

You're correct, the label has disappeared, but our developers are looking into this at the moment - we'll update you once there's more about it. But also keep checking for app updates - it's definitely streaming in HiFi

Deezer app, works fine on Nvidia Shield Android TV. However, there is no way of knowing at what bitrate your track is playing. Secondly, the app doesn't have it in settings to passthrough raw / unprocessed audio signal to the amplifier / AV receiver and let their high quality DAC process the signal. FLAC signal, if processed by android boxes' inferior DACs kills the entire purpose of HiFI subscription.

That's good to know @IAMMAK, thanks for sharing your experience. I'll pass your comments to our developers for discussion :v_tone2:

This is a common issue with all the Android devices. As I know there are 2 apps only to have passsthrough on Android TV - KODI and VLC. I’ve read a few reviews of using USB output+external USB DAC with the Nvidia Shield TV. Over USB it allows bit2bit 14 bit 44 Khz output. Not more.

Hmm. Thanks for the update on this. Not an ideal situation it seems. The good options then are to either play Hifi music on dedicated transport with optical out or on laptops / macbooks and use their usb ports and external DAC. Further, Deezer app should have a display telling users at what bitrate the track is playing presently.

Hi there @IAMMAK @Sic_zs

Thank you for your support and feedback - please vote for this idea here too

Is it possible to please confirm that the Android TV app that is used with Android TV's and Android boxes, is able to play hi-fi??

Because there is no "hi-fi" logo, or watermark visible. And as far as I can see, it is not possible access any settings on this app.

Replied to you on another topic @JohanvR, not yet. But it's on our plans! :relaxed:

Would also like a way to know if the android tv versions is actually streaming hifi audio (dont see hifi marker or gold color on the track progression bar). Deciding between premium and hifi for my account and my good speakers are what I run android tv with. If android tv does not get hifi then there is no point in me having a hifi account. Hope you support/add hifi indicators soon to android tv.

Hi sorry for the moment AndroidTV do not support Hifi, you can see which devices support it here: https://www.deezer.com/en/devices/tv

It is so stupped that android TV has lack of support. Hifi is still not working also gapless playback is not working. I like the Deezer android tv app on nvidia shield but miss those two importend futures.

Thanks for your feedback @Tecko. I would love to have better news, but at the moment we don’t offer those features.
Apologies for the inconvenience

New Deezer subscriber here. The last update for the Android TV app was over 3yrs ago. Not even a single bug fix in all that time. No lossless audio support on the Android TV app, plus the fact that Casting doesn’t work well, constantly crashing, playing the wrong tracks with Google Assistant, no gapless playback, etc, etc will most likely have me switching services once my 1yr is up.

I usually look to see when an app was last updated before I switch but this time I did not. Over 3yrs is just ridiculous and shows there are little to no resources being put into the Android and Android TV platform.

Is there any chance, that the lossless audio support will be implemented soon? Other major players offer this option on Android TV’s for long time already. Ita a pity, since i really like Deezer in general, but the lack of software updates for Android TVs gets frustrating.

Could anybody answer if there is something planned in the near future, that would be worth waiting for?

Hello @ueverett, unfortunately nothing planned out yet, sorry!

o.k. many thanks for clarification. As already mentioned competitors (that offer losless audio) implemented hifi option in their apps from the beginning, i cannot understand why Deezer has no abitions to do that, since Android TVs have quite a big market share. Moved to Deezer since i like some features in general, but lack of software updates (Android TV, Android Auto) is not helpfull to keep customers.

Hello @ueverett, unfortunately nothing planned out yet, sorry!

Looks like I’ll cancel deezer and go back to tidal if this is the current stance on android tv support. Like deezer connect from my android phone to my shield tv doesn’t work and it’s 2023.

Nevermind- I thought there was finally an Android TV update, but all that was updated was the Play Store webpage.
