I am a new member of Deezer. So far I am very please with it, and I think it is something to be grateful for, Big Time! However, it is shocking to discover that 'Loudness Normalization' is not integretad in Deezer Music streaming. As it is a fundamental element of playing a mixed of audio tracks, with diversified recording sound levels. 'Loudness normalization' was created to combat varying loudness when listening to multiple songs in a sequence. Before 'loudness normalization' is applied, one song in a playlist might be quieter than the rest, so the end listener has to adjust the playback volume. This is insane to have such a situation today -- How can any audio streaming service neglect such a basic need as Audio Normalization?

Hi

I think what you want is volume normalisation, not loudness as loudness is a feature from the past that only boosted the low and highs of a track but not the volume. You want the volume to be consistent across all tracks but not maxed out like a radio station. All track need to retain their full dynamics.

Some artists provide their albums at a very low volume level. Normalization is an absolutely needed feature!

It’s been 7 years since the OP, and when I listen to track mixes, I still occasionally get blasted out by a song that’s almost twice the volume level of the previous song. Are there any plans to fix this? 7 years does not lend too confidence. Spotify had no problems with this… just saying

I think this feature is implemented, at least it works on my iPhone, and I haven’t had the issue for several years now.

On my iPhone, I don’t seem to have problems, either. I’m definitely having these issues when using my Android tablet while connected to a pair of BT speakers. Not sure if it’s pertinent, but it’s usually my metal playlist where I notice it the most.

I turn my volume normalization off as I believe it adds some compression to the stream, I prefer to hear the best quality that I can. I rarely find tracks too loud or quiet (eg, Captain Fantastic has very low volume) and if the volume differs then it is usually a function of how that album was recorded and mixed, thus the same issues would exist on Spotify and others.

Interesting. I’ll try turning it off. If it works, it will be the most interesting solution to a problem that I’ve ever experienced! Thanks for the tip!
