I like to listen to Flow on Deezer, but a big problem is that different tracks have different volume. When I am cycling, this is very annoying, as some of my favorite songs play too quiet and all of a sudden another track is played too loud. How do I make Deezer play all songs on the same volume level. I wonder that nobody in Help topics is asking or reporting this problem?
>> it's being developed

Good to hear!

>> all I can ask now is for a bit more patience.

Well, we're already waiting more than a year now...

Is it that difficult to implement? Or is the priority that low?

I hope not the last. Since I find that normalisation is really a BASIC/CORE functionality for a music streaming service.
I actually think that this is a brilliant idea, and could be solved with artificial intelligence. Since some Indie artists get varying degrees of mixing and mastering done to their music, variations will occur due to their production budgets. Probably most fixes are volume related or EQ related. An artificial intelligence algorithms could normalize volumes and place limits on peaks for the EQs of tracks. This would be an outstanding promotional point for Deezer and I hope that they implement it and give it robust press coverage as a feature that none of us want to live without. Primarily because volumes and peaks that are too high can harm the ears especially when headphones are on, and of course, EQ peaks that are brought down too low can ruin the essence of the track.
Hi there, we are working on it, but I can't tell you when exactly this can be done 🙂 Will of course let you know, should there be an update :)

After a year I also expect this update
The fact that Deezer mobile app does not have volume normalozation is the only reason I did not subscribe to Premium account in my last trial and why I will not continue my current premium trial when it ends.

Please notify when you have a solution.
@Rudi

Are the devs going to implement the replaygain standards which differentiate between albumgain and trackgain?

In my eyes that differentation is important. If i hear my album collection the albumgain would make more sense whereas in mixes, in flow or in playlist the trackgain is a better choice.

Regards!
I also gave this thread a vote. I used to be a long-term Spotify user (premium), but I recently discovered that Deezer offers a Hi-Fi option, which I'm trying out atm. It's driving me nuts that there is no volume normalization option and even though I like the general sound much more than on Spotify I consider going back. I listen to so much music while taking the train to work and back home, it's definitely not an option to constantly change the volume. Big no.
Hi there @anna_banana_1987 @Gili Aharoni

Thank you for your honest feedback. I know our devs are working on this, we just need a bit more time.

@Krs Sns to be honest I'm not sure which type of technology they'll be using. But I'll be forwarding your feedback directly to them. Thank you 😉

They have a volume normalize button in the audio settings.  It just doesn’t work.  that along with billing problems and constant error messages has me thinking of going back to Spotify.  The sound quality is awesome but it just isn’t worth all the problems.

Obviously these people do not have a passion for music.

So I can see:

  • Windows app has “Equalize Volume” setting - this definitely does something - it turns down the volume instead of increasing it, which I guess is the right-approach to avoid clipping, though it seems a bit more than I would expect (but keep in mind normalisation which will increase the volume is only increasing the loudest peak to 0db, which isn’t the same as perceived loudness, so hopefully the reason it’s decreasing volume is to try and match perceived-loudness without clipping).
  • iOS has no option

Hi there @JadeRiver @teqteq

Thank you for your detailed feedback - there are a few things we still need to improve, and this is one of them. Our iOS app has an equalizer builtin @teqteq. And we've been testing on Android for quite some time too. Thank you for your patience.

You’d have to change the EQ setting for every track to get the same effect :-)

If there are ever technical constraints in iOS preventing loudness-normalisation you could always pre-process a loudness-normalised version of the track and stream that instead (I.e. backend processing).

But that has shortcomings, such as playing already-downloaded music.

Does Apple allow this kind of processing to be added? I imagine they would, given the audio plugins framework etc, and that you have EQ.

PS - when you do get a chance to implement this, be sure to either normalise loudness, not normalise amplitude. You need an algorithm that perceives loudness.

You could probably pre-process these amplitude adjustments in the back-end too, and send through the relevant gain adjustment to the app, to ensure it’s not battery-draining. Then the app only has to turn the song up or down based on the gain adjustment, rather than calculating it on the fly. I think MP3 tags might already include a field for a gain adjustment value. I remember some time ago an app that did exactly this (loudness-normalise your library by changing the gain value in the ID3 tag)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this with us, @teqteq 👍🏼

But Equalizer what it does is play with frequencies, not volume control of songs. I agree with using IA in this problem, to examine volume of previous song and volume of the next. And if you have Radio Anchor enabled, it can use that time to work in the background.

i found an example…

take the album Full Moon Fever (id = 229564 ) by Tom Petty

reach song #5 Runnin' Down A Dream
the volume is completely out of the rest of the album

Hi there @benobro

Thanks for reporting it to us. In what platform/device are you listening in this way?

I guess an alternative would be to license something like Maxx by Waves and build-in actual compression, similar to what’s bundled with a lot of laptops. It’s going to result in lost sound quality and not be true to the original recording, but maybe that’s what some people want - truly flat volume (which might be worthwhile for applications like cars or background music where you can’t be fiddling with the volume all the time).

Some people would probably also like the Maxx bass and loudness enhancement options too.

Hi @teqteq

Great feedback, thanks!

Fortunately, we're working on this as we speak - so we should have more updates very very soon!

There you go: https://en.deezercommunity.com/get-started-and-updates-16/all-about-volume-normalization-62622#post151313

Well, there's an album I like so much of Black Flag titled "Damaged", it sounds quite low on any version of Deezer (smartphone app/web browser/desktop app), it would be nice if there was another option besides the “normalize volume/equalize” one that makes louder the sound on any record, particularly the older ones.

Hey @Antonio Ricoveri

Thanks a lot for the feedback. In what OS do you listen to Deezer on? There are third-party apps that can boost your volume, for example. Our iOS app equaliser can also support a difference. Could I have the link for the track so that I can test on our side as well?

@Rudi Thanks for your response, I’m using Android through a moto e5 play.

Here’s the link to the Black Flag’s album I mentioned before:

Looking forward to hearing from you again,

Best regards,

Antonio :thumbsup_tone1:

What does It mean very soon ? Can you specify date of inplemwnting update for iOS ?
