I have used the "Shuffle my music" feature for many years and have never had any kind of issue.
https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115004269049-Favorites#how_to_shuffle_your_music
In the past, it always added songs from all my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists to my listening queue. It was great, one of my favorite features. Now, instead, it is broken. Paradoxically, it was better when I had fewer favorites, as if surpassing a certain threshold made Deezer's algorithms unable to manage them anymore. Now it seems to consider only the recently added favorites from the last month, which it cyclically replays in a repetitive and annoying manner, while ignoring all my history from previous months and years, which it never selects. This is not normal. It has never been like this until a few weeks ago.
It does not seem like an issue with my devices at all, because it occurs with both the Android App on my phone and the Web Browser on my notebook.
I also noticed "Shuffle my music" in the Deezer Web Browser version used to add 50 songs from my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists to my listening queue until a couple weeks ago, while now it adds only 10-20 songs and it does keep selecting the same ones over and over. Almost half of the songs has always been shuffled the previous time or the time before.
As I said, there are thousands of favorite tracks, playlists and albums it should choose from, but it is so bad and repetitive now. Has no one else noticed this feature has been getting worse lately?
Thanks

Hi @Marcormark, thank you for sharing your experience and the details with us.

I tested it on the web, and when I pressed the "Shuffle My Music" button, it created a queue of around 20 tracks.

Once it reached the end of the list, it continued adding new songs, and even with a queue of a hundred tracks, none of the songs were repeated.

Could you please check if the songs that are being repeated have the same ID?

First of all, it created a queue of about 20 tracks for you, but do you remember that it was adding 50 tracks until a month ago? So something has changed? 🤔

Secondly, perhaps I explained myself poorly; the repetition occurred when stopping playback and resuming it after 6-8 hours, that is, in the morning and then in the afternoon or the next day, or when starting an album or another playlist and then going back to the "Shuffle my music" button, always comparing the selected songs with the last 100 in my listening history.

Anyway, I tried again today and it is even worse than in previous days, in the sense that now it creates a queue with only 12 songs that have nothing to do with my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists! 😱

Please do not tell me to clear the cache, update the browser, reinstall the app, and so on, because those are attempts I have already made; I have the latest versions of everything and the problem occurs identically with both the Android App on my phone and the Web Browser on my notebook.

Maybe Deezer is gradually migrating users to a new system that evidently does not work, and those still on the old one do not have the issue, do they? This would explain why there are such large discrepancies between users and why the user experience can change suddenly from one day to the next.

Basically, I am now encountering the same behavior reported by @YannickG, but when I responded in that topic, I had never found myself in a similar situation. What is going on?

I tried turning off the "Synchronized Queue-list" feature on all my devices, and now the "Shuffle my music" function with the Web Browser on my notebook has returned to normal: it adds 50 randomly chosen songs from all my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists to the listening queue.

However, the problem with the "Shuffle my music" feature persists on the Android App: it still adds 12 songs to the listening queue that have nothing to do with my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists.

Maybe things are starting to make sense, though. I suspect the issue was introduced in the last month updates to the Android App, which maybe @YannickG did when I had not yet, and now we have both. It breaks the other devices only if I activate the "Synchronized Queue-list" feature, but the cause is probably just in the Android App.

Never mind... 😭 Despite the "Synchronized Queue-list" feature still being turned off on all my devices, today the problem is unfortunately present again with both the Android App on my phone and the Web Browser on my notebook. The "Shuffle my music" feature only adds 14 songs to my listening queue that have nothing to do with my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists.

@Marcormark , at this point, you need to give up on this disaster of a music streaming 'service'. I'm currently in a very tense exchange with Customer 'Service' (I trust to call anything they do a service!) about me trying to get a refund for my annual subscription.

Here are the facts:

1. I subscribed under the understanding a feature was included. That is, Shuffling my Music.

2. That feature is advertised as being included on the Deezer website. See here: https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115004269049-Favorites#how_to_shuffle_your_music

3. That feature is not functioning, and indeed, my good friend in Deezer Customer 'Service' (whom I'm not going to name and shame, because I don't want to be a waste of space like Deezer is) claims it is not a feature at all. They claim "The Shuffle feature is designed to work for tracks, not albums." in direct contradiction of the website and screenshot thereof I have attached.

Do what you can to get a refund, @Marcormark and abandon this dumpster fire of a company. I have a feeling I will be in touch with my country's ombudsman sooner or later.

I recently started having a similar problem.  I have almost 1000 album favorites and almost 400 artist favorites.  I like to use “Shuffle My Music” to shuffle my whole library, but in the last few days, it keeps picking the same few artists and the same tracks, making it very repetitive.  And the last time I hit shuffle, it only added 10 songs!  It used to be a lot more.  This is on the Windows desktop app.

On an Android phone the shuffle is alright, but I can understand your frustration when getting the same songs over and over.

@geo79 Yes! A month ago, it started exactly like this for me too. If you can contact Deezer Support to report your issue... I did it a few weeks ago, and I'm still waiting for a solution, but maybe the more of us there are, the more likely they will listen to us and fix it, who knows.

@awesomemac Until a month ago, I would have answered like you. "Shuffle my music" has always been one of my favorite features of Deezer, and I had never had any problems before. Now, unfortunately, I have seen all kinds of issues: little variety in the songs, which get repeated every 2-3 restarts of the function, despite having hundreds of favorite tracks, albums, and playlists to choose from; or little variety in the artists, it always fixates on the same dozen, even though my favorite artists are many more; finally, it even adds to the queue songs that have nothing to do with my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists.

Something broke in July and it is definitely still happening, but I can't explain why only for some users and why it seems to gradually spread to others...

The Android app is exhibiting the same behavior as the Windows app.  Shuffle only produces a list of 10-20 songs, all from the same very small, repetitive selection of artists even though there are 400 artists in my favorites.  It ends up picking a lot of the same songs each time.  Something is messed up because it didn’t do this until very very recently.

@Leonídia.Deezer: can you tell us if Deezer is aware of this “shuffle issue” and that someone is working on this?

Hello @awesomemac thanks for the help Can you reproduce the same issue here described?

Hi @geo79 @Marcormark I have check across other channels internally and found a couple more of similar complaints.

Could you tell me more about devices you use, OS version and Deezer app versions?

I have already open an thread internally about the matter, but would be great to have those info’s. They always ask.

Nevertheless, today I have tried “Shuffle My music” from the web and it created a 50 track queue with 100% tracks from my favourites.

On my Android device, it only created a queue with 16 tracks but again 100% from my favourites.

So please can you run some tests and check if issue is still present. Thanks

@Leonídia.Deezer: I’ll try to reproduce this issue. I can test it on iOS, Android and web.

@Leonídia.Deezer Thanks for your attention on this.  I mainly use Deezer on a Windows 11 laptop.  It’s the Deezer app version 6.0.190.0.  But now it’s even more messed up.  Previously it would at least pick songs from my Favorites, even though it was super repetitive, but now, hitting “Shuffle My Music” gives me a list of 12 tracks that are most definitely NOT in my favorite artists OR favorite albums.  It’s just a bunch of random music pulled from who knows where. Something is very messed up.

It does the same thing in the web browser version.  “Shuffle My Music” creates a list of random songs that are not in my library at all.  It’s now progressed the same way @Marcormark described.

On Android app version 8.0.18.7, it’s the same exact problem too - a short shuffle list of 12 songs, all of which are NOT from my favorites.  I use shuffle all the time to listen to the artists and albums I’ve faved, so this total failure of the shuffle system is a massive bummer.  It used to be that I could hit shuffle in the morning and listen to my library all day while I work, and it would periodically add more songs from my Favorites.  Now it’s worthless.

@Leonídia.Deezer Once is not enough. Please try to start the "Shuffle my music" feature multiple times a day, with other albums or playlists in between to clear the queue, and see if it always gets stuck on the same few artists or worse, at some point it even starts adding songs that have nothing to do with your favorite tracks, albums, and playlists.

I stopped using it for a few days and trying again today with the Web Browser on my notebook it seems to have returned to normal (it adds 50 randomly chosen songs from all my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists to the listening queue), but I'm not getting my hopes up, because it had already happened last week and then it got worse again.

I then tried with the Android App on my phone and yes, it is back to my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists too, but there are only 12 and it's still fixated on the same few artists (I have the "Synchronized Queue-list" feature turned off, so the devices can behave differently).

Tried it on both an Android phone and tablet.

On both I get a good playlist.

Both 23 songs and with artists I like and are in my favorites:

Now I’m curious if tomorrow the playlist will be the same or something new?

There are already many repetitions of songs between the two, aren't there? 🤔

Now, I can not wait to find out how your next test will turn out.

Yes, but I have to say, that I started both “shuffle playlists” almost after each other.

Same songs on the web, now couple of hours later:

So, let’s see tomorrow...

Days, hours, or minutes should not make any difference, or at least they did not use to. I remember when I could still get 50 songs, and by using the "Shuffle my music" feature multiple times, it was very rare to get a track that had already been added during the previous shuffle.

I noticed you have only 23 tracks instead of the expected 50, and nearly all of them are repeated songs. The issue started in the same way for me about a month ago. Then the more I used it, the more problematic it became, until it began adding songs that were completely unrelated to my favorite tracks, albums, and playlists.

Is is the Shuffle my music from today:

Also, consider how many artists are included in this feature compared to the number of artists you have among your favorite tracks, albums, and playlists. Are there any artists that "Shuffle my music" never selects?

FYI:

  • 547 favourite songs
  • 314 albums
  • 176 artists

It’s a bit difficult to say which artists Deezer doesn’t select.

With YTM I have the same favourites and I can use their Supermix. Always 100 songs selected from your favourite artists and changes every day. It includes favourite songs and not favourite songs.

I think Deezer should take a look at the Supermix from YTM and do the same to their Shuffle my music.

I mean, if you have hundreds of favorites but Deezer's "Shuffle my music" feature consistently selects only the same dozen artists, there seems to be an issue, don't you think?

I’m going to try to see if there are artists that never do appear in “Shuffle my music”.

New day:
