When closing the app down the music i am playing still plays in the background so i then have to open the app again, pause the song and then shut the app. It never used to do this...any ideas??

I have a workaround that works for my Samsung, although I'm annoyed that I have to use a workaround.

I locate the app icon on the phone and long-press it. Doing so displays a few menu items; one of which is an "i" with a circle arount it (for "info"). Tap the "i" to bring up the Deezer apps settings. Scroll down to the bottom and choose "Force Stop."

So to summarize more briefly:

Long-press app icon > tap "i" > choose Force Stop from bottom.

That brute-force stops the app from running in memory/behind-the-scenes until you next use it, as I understand. It might give a warning that force-stop could cause app issues. I haven't experienced any dire ones yet. :)

I downloaded deezer within the last month to try it out. I wanted to say this issue HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I'm guessing it never will be changed judging by how long this thread has been going, but I am with those who find it annoying to close an app on an android in the fashion that every other app I have ever used is closed, but with deezer it doesn't in fact make the app stop functioning. I have read about the work arounds and pausing the app prior to closing, and frankly I will delete an app that won't function before I go through stupid work arounds. It's a shame because otherwise i like the app and audio quality.

That’s great news @cassie cheeni! 💡

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us! 😎

The issue still happens on Xiaomi Poco F3. I tried to disable app notifications, restricting background activity and pausing the song before swiping to close the app but still it runs in the background and starts playing music at random times.

If you're experiencing the issue where music from a closed app continues to play in the background, the resolution process can differ based on your device's operating system. On iOS devices like iPhones or iPads, you can access the App Switcher by double-clicking the home button or swiping up from the bottom (for newer models). From there, locate the portable power station the app playing the music and swipe it away to close it. If the music persists, you can also check the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner and tapping the play/pause button to stop the music. Additionally, ensure the app isn't set to refresh in the background in the "Background App Refresh" settings. On Android devices, use the square or recent apps button to open the App Switcher and close the app playing music by swiping it away...

I am a new user to Deezer and subscribed for a family package.

We installed the apps on our Android phones and immediately found that there is quit button on the app.

This is extremely annoying and intrusive and falls in the category of SPAM.

If I want to quite an app, I should be able to do so by clicking a cross or swiping it. The way all the other apps works.

On my Note 5, it is the easiest to get out of it by opening the app on browser and kill it there.

On the newer phones however, this trick for some reason does not work cleanly.

For starters then. Why does this app not at least have it's own quit button like all other apps?

Some apps have a specific setting that allows them to continue playing audio in the background. Open the app and look for any settings related to background audio or background playback. Disable or adjust those settings accordingly. On most mobile devices, you can force close an app to stop it from running in the background. Double-press the home button (or swipe up from the bottom on iPhone X and newer) to access the app switcher. Swipe left or right to find the app you want to close and swipe it up or off the screen. Open the recent apps overview by tapping the square or recent apps button (usually located at the bottom of the screen). Then, swipe the app left or right, or use the close or X button to force close it. A simple device restart can help clear any temporary issues or glitches that may be causing the music to persist in the background. Turn off your device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

They will not awnser that question. I had to go through a lot just to be able to join with the same problem. What we need is a simple 'STOP' button. They will not give you that because they suck data in the background and being paid on that. Airtime. Remember the old CD players and cassete player? Deezer has got that, but missing a stop button. That is how they rob you blindly. They will come with shit on how YOU are doing it wrong, but where is the stop button?  Fuck Deezer.

The issue still happens on Xiaomi Poco F3. I tried to disable app notifications, restricting background activity and pausing the song before swiping to close the app but still it runs in the background and starts playing music at random times.

Try Music > Settings > Offline mode. See if that works.

Andother possibility is signing out. It would probably work but I suspect it would be inconvenient to sign in all the time. But maybe you can sign in with your fingerprint and sign out manually. That would ease the burden.

I am trying to understand the issue. On my iPhone when I minimize my Deezer the tunes keep playing. I have to do an extra swipe to actually close the app, at which point the music stops. To my way of thinking, this is how it should be? I want to keep hearing music while I check other apps. In my car I merely press pause in my Apple CarPlay screen. I would be pissed if my music stopped when I mimimize the app. Or am I missing something?

Yes, you’re missing something. People (including me) were complaining that after we swipe the app closed, the music constinues to play. The solution seems to be to disable certain notifications in the app (Android) and to make sure to pause the music before swiping.

“The solution seems to be to disable certain notifications...”

Good to know, but

Which notifications? Do you have a handle on that?

I forget what I did. Try under “Apps” and look under Deezer. If that doesn’t work, tell me, and I’ll take another look.

But I think that is the point, I do not want to stop the music unless I swipe twice?

Same here. Samsung Galaxy S8. Just began to see the problem.

This has just started happening to me and I'm fuming about it.

I use Deezer in my car (a lot) and stopping the music by closing the app has been the quickest and most simple and effective task for me with minimal process.

I now have to close the app and then access my notification bar to actually stop the music, because my screen won't stay on, and the app drops into memory meaning I have to activate my device with my fingerprint, call up the app from task and dismiss it from memory and then swipe down from the top of my device to find it in my notification bar and swipe right to shut it down completely.

This is incredibly dangerous for driving and I am sorry to say but only an idiot would think this is a great feature. Yes I'm angry, you are making things dangerous by adding pointless processes that add unnecessary steps to closing the app.

Was this tested with users? Why does it seem as though no thought is given for users who utilise the service whilst driving. Not all of use have modern cars with built in entertainment systems.

Who decided that this was a clever idea??

I'm seriously considering finding a different service because this is now the second issue I have discovered that affects drivers and puts people at risk.

Apologies for the tone of my response but you have a duty to provide a safe service and for me this is far from safe and needs addressing straight away.

Be aware that if a vehicle is running (engine switched on and static) in the UK it is illegal to even touch a mobile device.

If the phone is plugged in to charge and playing music, there should be an option for the screen to stay on allowing the app to constantly display the service minimising the need to even touch the mobile device,

A toggle switch should be located in settings to switch it on or off....

And then to stopping the app should be as simple as selecting the square and swiping the app away, as we have always been able to do in the past.

Is this still not fixed?

I'm having the same problem, the app is still playing when I close it.

Are the Devs just incompetent or have you hired some developers who used to make ransomware?

Just replied to you on another topic @albonista yes, indeed. We have some limitations which stop us from doing this, but like I said, it's on our radar.

Yep, 3 years and still not fixed

Thanks for the feedback @Holly O we appreciate it.

If there are any developments on this anytime soon, this topic will be updated. Take care!

3 years and still a problem.seriously! Its 2021. You should be able to close the app, by now. Deezer needs to catch up to the rest of the tech world. Even though a free app, I will be listening to music witha different provider.

Apologies you feel that way @Ranaz.116

We'll pass your comments on, have a great week!

Copy that @solman saw that you replied here too. Feedback noted!

Hello. I am new to Deezer but have been streaming Spotify for years. When you close Spotify  by swiping it off the screen, the music stops. Same with Tidal. Why is Deezer not doing this? I should not have to force stop the app to stop it from playing mujsic. Very annoying. So much so, I lasted just 4 days with Deezer before cancelling my trial subscription. Please fix and I will return.
