Is there any update coming for the gapless playback on google chromecast (audio)? It’s still a bummer not to have this function when streaming on this devices :(
Sorry about that @Martijn.Keymis
Not yet, but the good news is that we internally renewed our pledge to improve our connectivity for 2021. The big focus is to improve our integrations with different devices and protocols, and even the player. Our goal is to make the performance of the app to improve dramatically, especially on Android and desktop. Please bear with us, and stay tuned
Maybe start a new user survey in the meantime: What will be the first album you will listen to with gapless playback finally working in your app?
I’ll probably start with Richard Wagner’s opera cycle “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, all four operas in a row, more than 14 hours of sweet G_A_P_L_E_S_S HiFi lossless FLAC music, undecided yet which performance and/or conductor - Solti (first stereo release in the late 50s), Barenboim (live recording from the Bayreuth Festspielhaus in the 90s), hmm…
By the way, if these two recordings are not part of the HiFi Room yet, they should.
Barenboim @bluezzbastardzz for sure!
Start a new topic for that, I'll promote it! And include my picks too
Is gapless playback an option in the settings? If not, it should be. I like to know when a song finishes. Gapless makes sense for some albums but should be a choice in the settings, surely?
You might confuse it with crossfade which is an artifical joining of tracks that originally are separated. Used for “DJ” like playback with no pauses.
It’s been a year already. How’s the development going on desktop app?
Replied to you here @snaut
It's going well, we just had some setbacks with the updates planned for the app itself, not gapless. Please hang in there, I'm looking forward to this too!

What about now? Any news about gapless for Windows app? :)
So do I need to be on deezer hifi to have this feature?
You need to be on a mobile device for this feature if you want to have it right now, also HiFi would be good, because you don’t have to wait for Deezer to re-encode their MP3 catalogue or at least those albums which afford gapless playback. Apple iOS users can already benefit from a special feature of “live re-encoding” the MP3 files though.
There is no gapless playback on Deezer Premium, on my Android. For example these albums:

https://deezer.page.link/LAE4kW8JtBxeMSnW9

Those horrible "hiccups" between tracks is not gapless, it should transition smoothly as butter, like the whole album is one large file. I don't think Deezer will ever completely provide us with real "Gapless playback". What a shame... I think the primary focus should be on the playability of albums (correct versions of songs, correct masters, gapless transitions, and completion of an artist's discography), only then the focus should be on other "fancy app features" which are not all that important. The more I use this app, the more problems I encounter on some aspects that are supposed to be trivial. Streaming services have so much potential but end up being an unorganized mess.
Hi there @Neworder1111
Thanks for the feedback, totally get your point.
About gapless, here's the deal. Most of our catalog is FLAC, so these tracks have seamless accepted our gapless feature, while the MP3 section of our catalogue, needs encoding. So we've been doing that gradually, and our catalogue is huge. So what I've done, I've forwarded the content you mentioned above to our teams, to see if it can get encoded for gapless for you
Ooooh, I see. Thank you for explaining. I assumed that every album was already encoded with gapless, so it was odd to me that some MP3 albums were gapless and some not. I understand now. Hope eventually most albums will be gapless, thank you!
Our teams have been manually working on the albums you mentioned above @Neworder1111 - I was already able to see some positive differences - but some of the gaps are due to the tracks. It's still work-in-progress but please do give us your feedback!
Thank you @Rudi, I believe that the gaps in the album In the Aeroplane Over The Sea have been massively improved. However there is still that subtle but very audible, as i like to call it, "hiccup". It is not a completely seamless transition, you can always clearly hear a some kind of glitch when transitioning. And that is with most albums. There are albums where gapless works perfectly like: https://deezer.page.link/Um2KQjtgjTyzfq8d7
This albums is perfect on Deezer. Tracks flow without any hiccups. It is exactly as artist intended. Again, thank you for improving the gapless feature. Still, I hope those "hiccups" will not be a problem in the future because it's quite annoying.
Totally agree, that's the purpose of the feature as well. We'll keep on working to improve this @Neworder1111 thanks for your patience and support throughout!
So I've just recently switched from Spotify to Deezer. My son likes to listen to "die drei ??? Kids" Audio plays in the desktop app and he complained to me that there are gaps between the chapters. Maybe you can encode those too?
More than a year on, I am listening to the Sixpence None The Richer album, and gapless playback is still not implemented for the desktop app? I have the premium subscription. What the hell, Deezer?
The above is just one example, but I am noticing this on literally ALL albums where one song flows into the next. Kind of ruins the listening experience.
Hello @WalterS, gapless is indeed not implemented on desktop app. It’s only available on mobile. Sorry!

You’re “sorry”??? I pay the same amount for Deezer (Hi-Fi) as people using the app on their mobile devices, and yet I can’t enjoy the same features? Your absolute dismissive attitude is really discouraging. Especially after this was PROMISED us.
Hey @WalterS, I am not being dismissive, you do pay the same amount as everyone else and they also don’t have gapless on their desktop app.
As deezer is mainly used on mobile it makes total sense for us to implement first on mobile and then on desktop. Our teams are not as big as other competitors so we have to make choices, prioritise etc...
For the time being gapless is only on mobile, we want to improve it to desktop too but it’s not going to happen right now. (I want to say sorry again, but I am scared of being told off), anyways I hope this clarifies our position a bit more.
Have a nice day

You misquote me by saying “you do pay the same amount as everyone else and they also don’t have gapless on their desktop app.”. What I meant was, as a PC user I pay the same amount as a mobile user. It is therefore unfair to omit features for me, using the app on PC.
You also don’t address the fact that you guys PROMISED that gapless playback will be available for the PC app by the end of 2021. Your position is clear enough.
So… is this just not coming to Desktop? Is there no way to get gap-less playback from a computer? Desktop App or Web?
I understand the need to prioritise with small teams, but uh… this is a pretty critical feature. If people are using Deezer Hi-Fi, they’re here for the experience as it was intended by the artist, and there are A LOT of albums that are meant to be played back gap-less, in fact, I’d actually say ALL albums should be played back gap-less, if that’s how they were uploaded to the service and if that’s what the record is supposed to sound like. If after two years of it being on mobile (where I’d wager nearly all playback will be through phone speakers or bluetooth) it’s not available for computers, what are you prioritising over this?
Maybe I’m not understanding this right, but is it really such a complicated feature to start loading the next song when you get close to the end of the song that comes before it in an album? I mean, even after downloading an album to be available offline you still get gaps. What’s going on there? You say FLAC files don’t even need to be re-encoded, so what’s the challenge?
I joined the group for improving the Desktop app and this is the first thing I looked up, only to see an announcement from two years ago that apparently has been abandoned, so I’m not sure what to do with this.
We just want transparency.
