Put the philosophical moment aside, you've been asking us about this feature for quite some time now  :bellhop::hammer:

We've worked and worked hard to finally deliver to you a standard you deserve: Gapless playback. :v_tone2:

The feature isn't surely new to the world but it took some sweat to be implemented in our super vast catalogue. In fact, we're doing this gradually so that your listening experience runs smoothly, without any hiccups - literally :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :fog:

For those who aren't familiar with the technical stuff, this is what we're talking about:

  • Audio formats such as MP3 and FLAC add tiny little gaps of silence before and after the track, which can be disruptive to listening when the content recorded wasn't intended to have gaps between each track -  a good example being a recording of a live album or concert.  Gapless playback will remove these gaps at the beginning and end, to offer an improved listening experience.

For now, this is for our mobile Android and iOS apps - and for HiFi users only. This is because our FLAC catalogue doesn't need re-encoding (the tracks are ready for the feature) but our MP3's will need some polishing before everyone can enjoy it. And remember, there's no need to switch anything on, we've taken care of that for you :wink:

So if you're on Android and can't wait, update your app to 6.2.1 (you must be a Beta user) and if you're on iOS, this should already be a part of your life but if it isn't, you just need to wait a bit longer  :calling:

For our desktop app and web users, don't worry, we're finishing it too :thumbsup_tone2::nerd:

OK, then my guess would be that the rollout of the gapless playback feature has not reached you yet.

Are the tracks in HiFi or HQ? There's nothing wrong with the app. MP3s aren't gapless yet :v_tone2:

26 days later: Still staying strong 😜

Yeah, I’m getting really short gaps now (which is much better than it was) but still not gapless. Must be the longest-tailed feature rollout in history. iOS 13.1.1 on a 6S, app version 8.13.0.4

Just arrived today. :-)

I’m waiting for my turn on Android for like a month already. HiFi sub, beta, version 6.2.4.6 as for today.

Should there be a button in Labs, or some sort of another “woohoo, now your music is gapless” notification?

We didn't set up a notification for that @panyukov, but don't worry, we're carry on with the rollout for Android :v_tone2:

Still haven't gotten it. Chromecast integration is so poor. I've canceled my account. Maybe if gapless is available for ALL and not a tiered roll out and Cast works as expected I'll return. 

I'm on Android Beta, still not got it either so you're not alone!

HI, still not feeling the love. I have become a android beta user version 6.2.4.69 and still do not have gapless. Samsung A8+

I’ve been told it’s still rolling out… hang in there I’m also waiting!

Got another few weeks on my sub before it expires, thought I'd see if finally gapless was available. Updated my app to the latest beta. Nothing. 

 

Back to Tidal. 

Android rollouts reached 50% by the end of last week @schlambo we sincerely appreciate your feedback - but bear in mind that we have a massive FLAC catalogue and we'd hate to break things up and disappoint you that way :confused:

it is quite disapointing not having a gapless playback option. when will you fix this?

We've implemented it for HiFi users across the entire catalogue if you use the iOS app. Android users are following and we're also working on encoding our MP3 catalogue for Premium and Family subscribers, at the same time we develop gapless for desktop users :v_tone2:
