Gapless Playback Desktop App

Quite simply I dont get gapless playback using the desktop app.

I do get gapless audio on sonos and on my phone app too but not when using the desktop app. I am using a USB dac and was hoping to enjoy FLAC via the DAC. I have tried headphones plugged directly into my laptop eliminating the DAC. I get the same result when using the desktop built in speakers.

What am I doing wrong?

I have checked the settings but cant find anywhere that mentions gapless. "Listening to Dark Side Of The Moon" there is a big pause between tracks 1 and 2.

Am I the only one?

@lunaud

This is about the desktop app and not the web version. Gapless for the web has been around for a while. Desktop app has not received gapless so far.

Guys, Gapless playback is available on web app, prooved with Hi-Fi & HQ modes, I know this thread is about desktop app but it is better that bluestacks workaround!!!!

Sorry didnt know that. Thats strange given that the web app is the same as the desktop app. It shouldnt be hard to make that in desktop as well.

Anyways, the web version seems less buggy .

Hello @matt0509 @Yossi Kozay

Thank you for your patience. It’s taking a while but it is still on our radar so we hope that the feature will be ready very soon,

Thanks!

Could you define “really soon” for us please? It’s 11 months later and there’s still no gapless play on the desktop app. I’m advocating to drop Spotify in favor of Deezer among my friends, even allowing them on my family account, but lack of gapless play is in the top 3 of “reasons not to jump”, next to “I am too lazy” and “but what about my playlists?”.

You’re losing out on customers, and they all remember “Deezer is subpar to its competitors” because of that. I know it’s superior, but come ON. 4 years should be enough, no?

I’m a bit disappointed that they’ve promised this for a while, and then they just go radio silent until they come back and promise it again. I’m tempted to go with another service where customer service gives what they promise. Not sure if that exists but I’m going to go look.

Worst part is that the desktop client is electron which is *almost* ( I know it’s not the same) the same codebase as the web interface. 🙃

By the way, I just learned from this Reddit thread about necessary Tidal improvements that they neither offer gapless playback.

I don’t think that’s true. I’ve listened to one opera all the way through and am listening to a second one now. I’m on the 17th track. There are no gaps. This issue affects opera lovers more than anyone, I think. I have to listen to opera on my desktop using Bluestacks Android emulator (download Deezer from inside Bluestacks) to hear gapless play.

A workaround: Install Bluestacks Android emulator from Google Play. Then install Deezer there. Now you can hear gapless play on your desktop.

We've got gapless on our mobile platforms @snaut but we've got to prepare our desktop app for it first. Rest assured, development is underway :thumbsup_tone2:

… 2 years later is development still “under way” because I’d sure like the enjoy gapless playback on PC without needing to finagle some kind of third party add on.

I sympathise. I can’t run the Bluestacks version and the Desktop version at the same time and I can only use my remote control on the desktop. Tidal has gapless on my desktop, better sound too (if you have s/pdif (which you can work around with hdmi and a DAC or an optical audio splitter to DAC. Modern receivers have internal DACs (digital-analog converters)). But the phone app is a disaster. Searching is no better than Deezer there isn’t even a scroll bar to scroll through long lists. Weird. I think I’ll get a club and leopard skin, find a cave, and be happy.

Good to know, thank you. I linked to the Reddit thread four years ago though, so they might have changed gapless playback in their apps in the meantime. 😉 And the Reddit user did not specify which app he meant.

About using an emulator for Android apps on Windows, it should also be possible with the latest Windows 11 version to install the Deezer Android app, at least for US users, as far as I know. I have read that the system requirements for Windows 11 including Android support are higher than for Windows 10 though.

I was going to make a point , but whats the point jack s… will get done, how many years now ??????

and the beat goes on……….

It is taking a while indeed @Yossi Kozay

Good news is that we've had a recent update from the teams and work is progressing as expected. Hopefully, we should have this feature at some point before the end of the year. Thanks for the feedback and patience!

no gapless on the album I’m listening to via Mac desktop. hmmm...

This company is really something... 2 years later and still no gapless and trust me Rudy it's not gonna happen soon.

And if it will I'd love an update here since I moved to Tidal 2 years ago.

indeed @Yossi Kozay I have asked our devs and gapless playback in desktop app it is not planned for now.
I hope we can have you back at some point in the future once it is implemented.
Thanks :)

Is really ridiculous! I am a user who pays for a regular subscription and I listen to music very often while working on the computer. Despite so many requests, this option, which should be BASIC for any music streaming service, now you also come and say that it is not even planned?
Today I downloaded the new version of the desktop app from the Microsoft store: I was hoping that the update to version 6 (a major update!) would bring the much desired gapless playback, but instead it is just a cosmetic tweak.
YOU GUYS ARE REALLY RIDICULOUS!
You really have to make like @Yossi Kozay and abandon Deezer: I hope they realise that by treating their users this way they are only losing them!
For my part, I can only give them bad publicity: if one really wants a 'normal' music experience (what is Hi-Fi?) better to go elsewhere.

Sorry to tell you but that's a lost battle they don't care. I moved to Tidal a year ago and I'm very satisfied and it's much cheaper than Deezer.

Hi @Yossi Kozay, thanks for your message. 😀💜

Gapless playback has been available on the web for some time.

However, the desktop app has yet to receive this feature.

Please let me know if you need more information about this topic
