Deezer Desktop App - does not keep me logged in and too many Captchas
For some reason the desktop app (OS 😵 doesn’t keep me logged in, so I periodically need to sign in again.
Doing so requires spending 2-3 minutes clicking on pictures of traffic lights and fire hydrants.
This is absolutely ludicrous behaviour for a *desktop* app. Honestly, the desktop app shouldn’t auto-logout at all. If you are so worried about robots, then switch to 2-factor authentication or something.

Hello @Kasasagi, I’ve moved your messages here as they are related to this current topic. As you can see we are well aware of this issue and keep forwarding all your feedback to our teams. I very much hope we will be able to soon propose you a much better user experience with the Deezer desktop app, as a user I fully understand this is not acceptable
Have a nice weekend nonetheless
the captcha thing in deezer is the most annoying thing ever. I am using dozens of paid content services and various other services with sensitive data like online banking, but NONE has such a cumbersome login procedure like deezer does.
Please make this more convenient.
Hi there @bluegrass
Sorry you've experienced difficulties. Our captcha is in place to ensure a higher level of security which could prevent spam attacks among other threats, for example - as recently happened in our communities. But we're looking into our login and security as a whole, so thanks for your feedback.
This is simply not true. reCAPTCHA on deezer is integrated WRONG and does not add any security. If security is a concern, reCAPTCHA should come before logging into account to “prevent” automated brute-force attacks. In case of Deezer reCAPTCHA comes after entering correct password, which adds nothing to security. Automated system will already detect correct password and fallback to manual mode to solve captcha (ofc, this is not even needed because bots solve captchas easily as well).
But to be honest, this is unnecessary - standard brute force attack prevention techniques (max failed logins, progressive login delay, etc...) is enough. reCAPTCHA only screws paying customers and spits in our face.
Agreed 100%. If you guys (at Deezer) think that reCAPTCHA for correct password adds security, I am worried. That’s not what reCAPTCHA is for! You should, as said, use reCAPTCHA when an incorrect password is informed several times in a row.
And PLEASE add 2nd factor authentication and stop logging me out of the desktop app (windows)!
Thanks.
Hi @Noam Asulin@Migue@AMircea@Oguzcan Yavas@fuma@Vagn_Henning@Bert Maleszka@Cuzi@sbkeider@n1gth@Kilarie@dmac2286@Artem Moskalchuk@teqteq@Henry Sahlgren@haneck@beachseeker we are very sorry - this should not be happening. Our Deezer Desktop developers are currently looking into this to make sure you can stay logged into the Deezer Desktop App and only have to go through the annoying Captcha process one single time only.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please let us know if you have any further questions and thank you for your patience.
Are you still looking into this, after 2 months? Because I was just logged out and asked to identify buses. ♂️
Hi @jan.potocki@Noam Asulin@Migue@AMircea@Oguzcan Yavas@fuma@Vagn_Henning@Bert Maleszka@Cuzi@sbkeider@n1gth@Kilarie@dmac2286@Artem Moskalchuk@teqteq@Henry Sahlgren@haneck@beachseeker@BenFr@Joao2019 Pedro@Hekofit@claw.@77cats@Telmo Menezes@Armin we are really sorry this is happening and our developers want to fix this asap. Unfortunately, they were not able to reproduce this technical issue so far. Therefore, we all need to work together to get rid of the Deezer Desktop App Logout problem.
Could you please reply to all of the following questions to speed up the process:
What is the brand and model of the computer or laptop you are having problems with?
Which Operating System Version do you have installed?
Which Deezer Desktop App version do you have installed?
Were you logged out on the same day? Or a few days later? What was the time period in between?
How often did you have to login again so far?
Are you using your email address to login OR Google OR Facebook OR MSISDN?
Thank you so much for your help, we are sure we can we can fix this :)
Lenovo Thinkpad T470s.
Windows 10 Pro, version 1909
Windows 10 app, version 4.19.20
A few days later. I didn’t keep track of the time period.
Once after 1-2 weeks.
Email address
Thank you.
Hi all,
Thank you for all the answers provided so far - very helpful! Our developers who are investigating this problem have asked for more info from you to speed up the process. Could you please tell us:
Do you have to log in every time you relaunch the app or is this happening every time the app gets an update?
When you get logged out, can you log back in straight away or you need to restart the app?
Have you downloaded the app from the Windows Store or using a direct link for the .exe file?
Let us know the most you can, it can help us fix this quicker
Every time the app gets an update, apparently.
Straight away, but I always need to solve a reCAPTCHA .
Windows Store.
Thank you.
Thank you for all the info and feedback provided @korg250@berglisound - will forward these
Had to go through ANOTHER captcha today, not even a month after the last one. If my BANK had this kind of “security” - which they don’t - I’d say they were going too far. Keep me logged in unless I log out, and quit asking me to click on fire hydrants.
I’m switching to the browser player for now.
But if this crap doesn’t get solved I’m switching to Spotify. How hard can it be to ask for captcha only on login failure? This is ridiculous and tremendously frustrating.
Thankfully I took the time to check and see I’m not alone, but I’d bet many users would just give up on this and switch to another streaming service.
I’m a loyal customer since 2014, please don’t let us down.
Thanks.
This captcha is really annoying. Sometimes is just give up and go to my local plex server because is so frustrating try dozen times to login into Deezer. I'm considering stop using Deezer and moving to another streaming service. Remove this "feature”, please!
It seems each time a new version of the windows app is pushed onto microsoft store i have to re-login. this is very annoying because we forcibly have to go through re-captcha, hence feeding google ai, something i really don’t want to do.
Please make sure you keep credential between updates.
Hey @LeonardoCPacheco@lou.wyss@DJ_Zephyr@stefb and everyone,
Thank you for your feedback and patience. We're very close to sorting this up in one of our new releases. I'll let you all know once I get more details
Hi,
Deezer (Desktop 4.19.200.0, Windows 10 1909) keeps logging me out randomly. Every few days or so. Sometime two times in single day.
After that I have to go through clicking busses and trafic lights. And crosswalks too. It takes up to several minutes. It is extremlly frustrating experience.
I see that people having the same problem for quite some time now. When do you plan to fix it?
Best regars,
Zoran
I’ve posted repeatedly about the auto-logouts and failing captchas. Some shrill named Rudi keeps answering “We’re working on it.” The only correct work is to remove it, but you can’t even manage that. How long does it take to remove a feature? In my expert-level, professional opinion, 1 hour and a cycle of testing. Whatever you are doing is failing. Today, months into this issue, I was auto-logged off, and forced to login twice because the first captcha failed. This is not acceptable customer service. And so I am ending my subscription. I find the YouTube Music App to be refreshing and as functional as Deezer. Stitcher will give me more podcasts than Deezer. I’ve always paired Deezer with Soundcloud. My idea is to tell all Deezer Subscribers to change their subscriptions to a music service that listens to the needs of their subscribers. Maybe one or more of the above will work for them. Almost certainly less annoying than Deezer.
Hello @zperak, actually our team is working right now on a new version of the app with a much better user experience regarding the authentification, that won’t have this amount of Captchas. We’re looking forward to it as much as you are, we’re also users after all.
Have a nice weekend
I start the the Deezer Windows app. I enter my my email address and password to ensure that I am authenticated. Only I know my password. Then I have to play games with CAPTCHA’s finding things on the street (cars, buses, trucks). This is a pain. I have to spend a minute or two wasting time. Then Deezer lets me listen to music.
I am a cybersecurity professional. The CAPTCHA stops bots from opening an account. A CAPTCHA does not make an account more secure after I have entered my password. If a bad guy has my email and password, a CAPTHCA provides zero security. However it does make users like myself mad and they will consider moving to a competitor who do not waste customers time with useless security measures.
Ok Deezer. That is enough. I’m cancelling my subscripion. Today I was logged out again and I’m unable to login at all, because I couldn’t identify enough fire hydrants on the pictures. Now I get the message that I can’t log in and I have to wait.
Deezer is the most ridiculous music streaming app out there. Do you really expect people to pay for that s**t? I took you half year to make the “back” button working in the windows app(!). Problem with captcha logins is persisting for months and literally nothing is being done with that. You just write all the time that “our brilliant develeopers are working on that”.
Music library is total mess - I get a 2-3 different music bands on one page just because they have the same names. Reporting that is worthless. Requests for “connect” featrure are being ignored for years… Bye!
Signed up for the deezer trial because Spotify was using me as a Beta-tester for inferior versions of their products without even asking me.
Tried to sign up for deezer and immediately run into issues. First, why send hte user to the microsoft app store? Couldn’t a direct exe be provided? I had to reinstall my microsoft app store application via powershell to get the link to open on my system.
Once it’s installed, I’m forced to sit through at least a dozen of those captcha pages to login. Thinking maybe it’s bugged, I try the audio version. The audio version throws the same error as Hrabia.
To see that this issue has existed for three months and there’s STILL no fix is not a good sign. As has been pointed out here verbatim: this ‘feature’ isn’t even properly setup as a ‘security’ measure. It’s turning your PAYING customers into unpaid AI trainers.
I’m walking away. It’s not worth the effort. What a sorry state of affairs the music streaming industry finds itself. No wonder music piracy is back on the rise.
This is happening much too often, I will have to move to a different provider if there’s no plan to fix this soon.
4 months passed and nothing changed. still asking for captchas.
I cannot imagine an idiot who proposed this moronic solution for desktop app.
I cannot imagine that 4 months is not enough time to fix this ridiculous app behavior.
Thanks for your honest feedback @John88@icj@Hrabia Dziktor@beachseeker@cimott
We're actually finishing up our work on this one - hopefully in time for the next app release or so. We'll keep you posted, we haven't stopped working on this
Some idiot put that captcha check few months ago. Lot of users complained but they simply refused to remove this “feature”. I tried to explain to them what is the problem and they advise me to change my password ?!?!
Hello @cimott, actually we’re listening to all of you, and we’ve spent a long time forwarding your critics regarding Captchas to our teams, who decided to work on this. I acknowledge it’s taking a very long time, they just let us know we are close to delivering an updated version of the app that should solve this. We will let you know once we have more information.
Have a nice day
Since it’s been four months since this was first reported I’ll assume your ‘responsible team’ isn’t very responsible.
Questions
Is this being looked at or not? Please be clear with your paying customers?
Is there a work around?
Has anyone within your support team verified the issue reported and provided accurate information to your responsible team so that it can be worked on?
If it’s not being worked on when will it? Please manage our expectations?
Capatcha is an old technology, what is your roadmap for replacing this with 2FA?
Do you have a SLA for these issues and has it been followed?
Can we have evidence of this being raised in your software development ticketing system please?
Please can the community have an update to these points.
I can see that this issue has over 1500 views and 130 contributors waiting for an update. Given the four months this has been open for this is very poor support and maintenance.
