Brother

Kodaline

😊

Brother is an expressive and moving lyric of solidarity. The theme begins with the narrative "when we were young..." and develops a story about living life with someone. Even though they took different paths, the narrator still feels love for this person. The indie pop flavor gives a harmonious note to these lyrics, allowing that feeling of togetherness and life to really explode. The deep vocal "brother" of life together, to the point of having matching tattoos. It's clear the connection here runs deep.

So when you listen to this song, you're listening to much more than a pop song about friendship. You are hearing the depth of human connection between two exceptionally close friends.

Talk

Kodaline

😊

Initially operating under the name 21 Demands, Irish outfit Kodaline emerged in 2012 with a sound rooted in the guitar rock of Coldplay, Keane, U2 and Oasis. The band found commercial success with the release of their 2013 debut, In a Perfect World.

About the song:
Mark: "I wrote the song 'Talk' when I had just broken up with my girlfriend. It's about being in a relationship that's stuck, that has no future anymore. Even when we broke up, I kept going back to her, even when I knew it wasn't good."

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the relationship has come to an end. Words and promises that were once meaningful now only reside in the narrator's mind, not his heart. The repetition of 'we don't need to talk about this now' underlines the idea that there is no need to relive the past, as both have changed and the relationship no longer has the same meaning. The mention of 'the crowds in my heart they've been calling out your name' indicates that although the feelings persisted for a while, they have finally faded.

The Ceiling

The Wild Feathers

😋

Turns out they're not actually a country band per se. Their website describes them as a mix of Southern rock, Americana roots and heartland pop. While speaking with frontman, Ricky Young, he stated that "we've never liked to label ourselves. Every listener has an opinion and it just depends on who's listening. So we don't worry about that. We just make the music that we want to make and that makes us happy."

Wild Feathers started with three lead singers, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Ricky Young, who played guitar in other bands before starting this one.

Young reports, "Fortunately, at different times we all felt like we wanted to try something different and new. So we came up with the concept of a multi-singer group like Crosby, Stills and Nash. It was actually kind of easy and, more importantly, fun."

Rushmere

Mumford & Sons

😊

After seven years of nothing at all, Mumford & Sons announce their new album, entitled RUSHMERE.

Mumford & Sons' album was produced by Dave Cobb, someone the trio calls a “legendary friend” and who has collaborated with artists including Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton and Slash.

The song is vintage stomp-and-scream festival folk, with Marcus Mumford’s vocals sailing over pounding drums and the relentless sway of acoustic guitar and banjo. “Enlighten me, I’m wasted in the dark,” Mumford sings on the hook, “Rushmere restless hearts at the end / Get my head out of the ground / Time doesn’t let us down again.”

As a press release note, Rushmere is the name of a pond on Wimbledon Common in southwest London, which is where Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane hung out and began conceiving of creating a band. The album was made over the past two years, with the band calling this period “the most prolific two years we’ve ever had” in a brief statement on Instagram.

"We've got a ton of songs to share with you... and it all starts where we started, really, with 'Rushmere.' We're excited to get started, relieved and thrilled to share this first one with you."
