In December 2024, MacKenzie Porter and her husband, Jake Etheridge, teased an intricate and moving new song, 'Happy Ever After You', with Porter commenting, "I met my husband through songwriting, but we hadn't written a song together in over 10 years... until now."

The yearning, bittersweet offering finds Porter and Etheridge stepping into the shoes of two former lovers who have long since parted ways, but who still haven't managed to relinquish the hold they have on each other. It's beautifully stripped back and intimate, and the track's stripped-down, acoustic feel, coupled with its heartbreaking lyrics, led to plenty of fellow artists getting excited about the initial teaser for 'Happy Ever After You'.

Luke Combs, for one, commented, “Yo. This is really damn good,” while Jordan Davis echoed Combs’ sentiments, sharing, “Well damn y’all… This is beautiful.” Ella Langley, RaeLynn, ERNEST, Ashley Cooke, and several others also rushed to the comments section of this ‘Happy Ever After You’ demo to beg for an official release.

Endearingly, it seems like MacKenzie Porter and Jake Etheridge had no idea that 'Happy Ever After You' would blow up the way it has in recent weeks. The full studio version of 'Happy Ever After You' was officially released on January 10, 2025, with Porter and Etheridge using the single as the springboard for their new project, 'Thelma & James.'

The band continues to demonstrate their mastery of sound, ambiance and silence by layering Into the Mystery with a full sonic palette. Even though the album was recorded in an old house in rural Tennessee, the music doesn't sound limited in its scope. It's big when it needs to be, and dialed in, but still full of texture when needed.

After dominating the airwaves all summer long with "Espresso" and "Please Please Please," Sabrina Carpenter is capping off the season—and quenching our thirst for slicker, brighter pop—with her just-released sixth album, Short n' Sweet.

This newly honed artistic identity is front and center on opening track and third single “Taste,” which arrived alongside a Dave Meyers-directed visual inspired by Death Becomes Her and co-starring Jenna Ortega on August 23. Oklahoma-raised, Nashville-based indie singer-songwriter Sam Westhoff has been through several variations as an artist over the past few years. I first discovered Sam's music in the form of Colour, his impressive 2018 solo album that featured several captivating singles ("The Way That You Move," "Everyday," "Easy"). 

After a period of performing with soul/indie pop collective Lately. and working behind the scenes producing, writing and mixing music for other artists, Sam announced his new project, HAFFWAY, in early 2023. "This is it for me," Sam comments on social media. "I'm, for the first time, saying the things I have been wanting to say how I've wanted to say them. I feel like my life experience and my writing are aligning. HAFFWAY is this."
