New logo: Explanations šŸ’œ

After the announcement of the new logo and the new identity of Deezer, we took the time to read all your comments and feedback in order to address your concerns and understand your feelings

Opinions are very divided and several details were pointed out, including one that came up quite often: Why did you choose a heart šŸ’œ?
One comment cited ā€œthere is a more distant connection to music compared to the old logoā€

Ā

The beating purple heart simply represents love and passion for music. The shapes of the logo vary to signify musical rhythms. Its movement and pulsing quality directly reflect the essence of music and the human response to the listening experience, much like a heartbeat.
Ā

Another question was ā€œwhy did you decide to change everything/what is the purpose of this new identity?ā€

Deezer helps you ā€œbe and belong,ā€ going beyond streaming to empower fans, artists and partners to express themselves and connect through our products and services.

Refreshing our visual identity is essential as we enter this new era for Deezer. This allows us to connect emotionally with music fans, artists and strategists through visual cues that let people know that with Deezer they can experience music, not just listen to it.
Ā

ā€œThe choice to have prioritised this change was not the best, it would have been good to strengthen the user experience rather than degrade it.ā€

Satisfying our users experience is indeed crucial. Development and modification choices can be complex, which means that the change itself was so significant that some bugs crept in during this transition. All have been flagged by our developers and technicians, who are already fixing these errors.

Ā

The identity change will be present in all future app updates. We hope you will adopt the new design and enjoy the new Deezer experience.

We adopt this new identity with pride, and although not everyone likes it yet, we still hope to find a place in your hearts šŸ’œ.

One of the last times I was on this forum, it was to inquire about the lack of a very basic feature re: subscriptions (which is now coincidentally part of their subscription offerings, the Family HiFi plan.) So it's sort of unfair of me to say that Deezer NEVER listens to their customers... it just takes them 3+ years to listen. At that point, many of us will have found a competitive and utilitarian streaming service we've long been looking for. The rainbow EQ logo will be the last Deezer logo I remember.

I don’t like the new logo. It’s like a Halloween season logo.

I read a couple of answers from Deezer on Google Play. It seems unlikely that this feature is coming back. The answer was literally "you can shuffle your playlists" and that's that šŸ˜‚

Ugly new logo!! Give us some choices, at least. The new one looks like a cheesy dating app. I need to hide Deezer on another page of apps, can’t be in front anymore 🤢

What a disaster identity update. The new logo...I’m speechless. Can anyone explain to me where I find the dating section in the new app? This logo is sooooo off from music!

First thing I did was to change the app icon back to the old one (MacOS) - but don’t know how to do it on an iPhone.

Uninstalled it the second I saw the now playing bar hovering needlessly and wasting my screen space, let alone every corner rounded because right angles aren't cool anymore, and the gross coloring, font, and icon.

I'm sick of this aesthetic, and I'm sick of lazy UI developers racing to implement their versions of it because their too afraid to be original. It's the equivalent of Corporate Memphis in app design.

I liked Deezer because it retained a more mature UI while Spotify dumbed its UI down and removed options. I came here to get away from this type of toxic, anti-user development mindset. The kind that believes they'll accept anything so take everything you like away from them. You don't have nearly enough brand loyalty to be taking options and usability away.

I rolled back to the previous version via APK and the second this version stops working is the day I cancel.

Great idea. I’ll do the same.

@ybruyĀ The new identity will be present in all future updates and it is not possible to switch to the old logo.
    Thanks :)Ā

All I needed to hear. Cancelling my HiFi subscription.

    HiĀ there,

I don’t really like the new icon, seems a bit lovey-dovey, and doesn’t represent what the app means to me.Ā

    So that’s a ā€˜no’ from meĀ šŸ™‚

A comparison of Deezer and Tidal Android apps.

They can’t even design their email signatures correctly.

The thing that really gets to me about the rebrandingĀ is that this could’ve been fun.

People like having opinions on aesthetics. Deezer users are here because we like Deezer, it feels more personal than Spotify et al. It feels like something we all have a part in.

    Except we obviously don’t.

We could’ve had a poll, a beta testing period, or whatever else. Deezer could have gotten some hype going, gotten the community energized.Ā They want to create connections between users? What better occasion than a debate on icons and color schemes! Maybe the result wouldn’t have been objectively better than this, but it would’ve beenĀ ourĀ choice.

But no, they rolled it out without asking.Ā And they did a very slapdash job, which could’ve easily been prevented if they’d taken feedback first. It didn’t occur to them to check for accessibility ♿.

Look at the announcements: ā€œWe tell you moreā€ makes it clear there’s a hierarchy and users are at the bottom of it.

Most of us dislike change, and sometimes change has to happen. But more than that, nobody likes feeling ignored and helpless. I think that’s a big part of why the rebranding got such a backlash. It’s why I’m thinking of switching to Spotify. Sure, it’s ugly and impersonal, but I guess Deezer is too.
