WE NEED FOLDERS TO ORGANISE OUR MUSIC

Hello, I left Spotify to subscribe to Deezer, wishing to support a french company (as a French person), but, you apparently made the choice not to allow users to organize their music with folders, people who listens to a lot of music and hundreds of albums have the need to arrange them by topic. How can one find an album listened several years ago if one cannot put it in a well arranged folder on the shelf?

I'm going to have to go back to Spotify, are you aware that by refusing this basic function, you're probably losing hundreds of thousands of customers?

I imagine that in one way or another it must suits your business model, but... it's embarrassing. I'm writing you this message to find out if you agree that it's not possible to organize your music using folders, thank you in advance for your reply and have a nice day.

You can be creative and use playlists as folders.

Hello,

The community has been asking for this feature for at least 7 years, and it’s hard to understand why organizing playlists into folders still isn’t a priority — especially when visual additions like stickers on covers (link: Your App, Your Way: Personalize Deezer Like Never Before 📲) are being prioritized instead.

Deezer could take inspiration from Tidal, which offers a very simple and effective folder system. It would be a huge improvement for users with large music libraries.

Have a nice day.

Hi @KNEELOASD !

Some users have commented before that there should be an organization or sorting of playlists and albums into folders.

You can cast your vote in the links below

I’m currently trial running both Deezer and Tidal and over all I like Deezer better but Tidal having folders makes it REALLY tempting to go with them. I have a lot of playlists and not being able to organize them more cleanly is a major drawback for me.

I use playlists as folders—I find it quite convenient. So what does Tidal do differently if it does allow you to create folders? If you don’t mind me asking, what do you use those folders for?

Playlists and folders are two different concepts. A playlist contains multiple tracks, a folder contains multiple playlists (maybe albums and artists too, depends on the implementation).

You might not think is a necessary feature, if you only have a handful of playlists or you only listen to albums directly, but for someone with hundreds of playlists, it becomes very difficult manage all of them. E.g. if I have a particular artist in mind, but happen to forget their name, it’s quite time-consuming to browse through all my playlists to find them.

It’s much more convenient to break everything down to folders by some category. Music genre being the most obvious one. One folder for death metal, another for classical, and yet another for synthwave. Or maybe you want a folder for all your workout playlists, up to you.

I used Tidal for a short while before moving to Deezer, and this is hands down the single most important feature that I miss from it.

Deezer not having folders… i can not just understand this basic feature.

Thank you for the heads up on Tidal.

I guess i will take my business over there then.

I was ready to pull the trigger on Deezer until I learned this. Folders and playlist sorting is a 100% necessary feature for how I use music apps.

Playlist management is a fundamental feature of a music streaming platform.

Folders make it easy to find what I want when I want it. Having hundreds of playlists, it’s hard to organize and keep things tidy, especially when Deezer likes to rearrange things based on recency or whatever weird algorithm they have applied.

A,B,C …. alphabetical order. Quit moving my stuff.

User interface consistency increases ease of use. Ease of use, user enjoyment.

There are or so many useless features on the home screen I will never use, when I just want to manage my playlists.

New to the platform, but sadly disappointed.

Folders. I want folders. Organization.  Control of my user experience.

This is the number one reason I will be leaving Deezer. Transferred all my music here, love the AI policing, excellent catalog, good music quality.

But I have 150+ playlists! Not being able to sort them into folders and not being able to see them all in the left toolbar are major breaking points for me. It’s too hard to find the music I want. I’m out.

I have over 400 playlists. I got an idea and sometimes I use hashtags and numbers to organize them.
When I want to sort playlists by mood, genre or something else, I will put a hashtag and a number in front of each playlist name.

For example:
#1 I want to use this tag to label rock playlists:

Then I will name the playlists
#1 metal
#1 rock ballads
#1 alternative etc.

#2 I want to use this tag to label Happy vibes playlists
#2 dance music 80s
#2 dance pop 2000s etc.

Since there are no folders, we now have playlists labeled with a hashtag and a number. Each number with a hashtag represents a folder. When we want to see specific playlists, we enter the hashtag and number in the search engine. Then all playlists labeled that way will be shown. The disadvantage is that you need to remember which hashtag and number represent a specific folder.
