Windows/Mac Deezer Desktop/Web App - Bugs/Issues/Workarounds

Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the topic dedicated to all problems you may face when using our desktop and web apps, big or small.

What should I post here?

  • if the app is acting in an unusual way, when you click on the menus and buttons, for example
  • if the player is displaying error messages, or if the playback is interrupted, let us know
  • if you're unable to login, or if the app kicks you out, we need to be aware too
  • if it simply crashes on you, when you connect or not to a device, it's better to leave a comment
  • if you have tips or workarounds to share, they'll be very welcome too

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version of Deezer :floppy_disk:

Deezer 5.30.140 for Windows.

After switching to Deezer application with alt+tab or via taskbar pressing Space does not pause (or start) playback. You have to click somewhere inside the Deezer window in order to sort of “focus” UI and make Space work.

(Curiously, Ctrl+arrows can change volume immediately after swtching to the applicatio, additional clicking is not necessary)

Web version: you can no longer delete songs from the queue. If you’re playing music, deleted songs return when you close the queue. If you pause it, deleted songs come back when you resume playback.

Not a huge deal, but MacOS Monterey includes a new “Now Playing” feature in the menu bar. Using the Desktop version of Deezer, the album name and album artwork don’t seem to get called over. Same with the track duration and current progress.

I can’t login to the windows app, it opens firefox and says “You’re in!” but it just goes back to the app and refreshes the login window, no error. I’ve tried enabling cookies and disabling content blockers.

I tried to login to Edge/Chrome but it says my password is wrong. It definitely isn’t because I use a password manager. It logs in fine in Firefox, iOS, Android.

Maybe just provide us a good ol’ username and password box?

Not a great start to trying out Deezer hmm.

Just installed the Desktop app on Windows 11 - I can only open it if I ‘run as administrator’ and then once open it closes itself usually within 30 seconds. Have tried re-installing, rebooting computer etc.

In the web version you can go back and forth on the page. In the version of a desktop it is impossible. I need to move the mouse instead of using keyboard shortcuts.

Deezer 5.30.140 for Windows.

I’ve got the same experience.

Volume changes immediately with CTRL+UP/DOWN. Next or previous track (SHIFT+LEFT/RIGHT) don’t work; skipping back/forward (CTRL+LEFT/RIGHT) and pause/play (SPACE) doesn’t work like Artem Karpenko wrote.

Also the navigation with the keyboard is awkward.

You would expect that you can go back/forward with ALT+LEFT/RIGHT and move around with TAB or ARROWS. The only way to move around pages with the keyboard is by using the TAB-key. In the left menu the selected item gets an orange highlight (dark theme) and when pressing ENTER you’ll got that page in the right pane.

To switch to that pane, you can CTRL+TAB.

There is no visual way to tell where you are (what pane is selected when using keyboard navigation).

to select someting in the right pane you need to tab trough. The problem is that the items(tiles) on the right side (on the BROWSE page) don’t get a visual identifier on that item is selected, so you’re navigating blind…..

Besides that improvement is needed here, a lot can only be done by using a mouse. (Liking numbers, showing lyrics, Adding to a playlist and “hating” numbers) It would be nice if shortcuts for these would be added too. Maybe even shortcuts for the main items in the navigational-menu on the left; ie: CTRL+1 for “Music”, CTRL+2 for “Podcasts”, CTRL+3 for “Radio”, and so on….

On Windows, using the Desktop app, I can no longer add songs to the Queue (that option is missing from the menu when clicking on … next to a song).

I think related, when I search for an artist and start to play their Top Tracks, it now only plays the first track and then moves to Recommended tracks.  I can no longer just play the Top Tracks as a list.

Crashes, Lags and Resources!

Deezer (5.30.170 on Windows) crashes at least one per day. I usually hibernate my PC and that might be a cause.

Additionally its UI lags all the time and app crashes randomly. I click some button, wait for reaction and it crashes.

It also takes a lot of PC resources - task manager shows 1500 MB of RAM and very high CPU usage!!

Automatically scrolling to the currently playing song in the queue sometimes doesn’t work

When I first start listening to a playlist, I open up the queue. If I hide the queue to do something else in Deezer and open the queue up again it does automatically scroll to the song currently playing… up until about the 30th song or so and then it gets “stuck”. I’ll explain how to reproduce below.

26

  1. Start playing a playlist with about 100 songs in the playlist
  2. Open up the queue and verify that it does automatically scroll to current playing song
  3. Wait until it’s playing the 30th song.
  4. Close the queue and do a search or something
  5. Open up the queue

Expected: It would scroll automatically to the 30th song in the queue

Actual: From the 27th song on it always automatically scrolls to the 26th song. This song might not always be accurate. The number may depend on other factors, but my current playlist always scrolls back to the 26th song.
