Anyone else had an email, stating there will be an increase in monthly subscription, from November, of £2.00? Apparently, Deezer are investing in HiFi quality sound, as a sweetener. I for one, will be moving on elsewhere

Hi all, I understand it might be frustrating to receive a short notice informing a price increase.

The music industry has changed very rapidly and dramatically this year. Deezer is the only independent global challenger left in the audio streaming industry and we have to adapt to the realities of the market.

Unfortunately, that means that we were a bit hasty with our comments in May.  We need to make sure we can continue to provide listeners with unique features, a great listening experience and the best curated content in the world.

That’s why we’ve chosen to make HiFi part of all our subscriptions in Great Britain and to adjust the price point.

Now everyone has the option to enjoy music the way that artists intended it to be heard, while having access to our full HiFi catalog of 70 million tracks as well as additional benefits like the 360 by Deezer app.

Please get in touch with our Deezer Support Team and one of our agents will be able to help and discuss your options.

Thanks :nerd:

It is a bit frustrating to have the price rise so shortly after you said it wouldn't happen without greater notice.

But... It is much more annoying to get the information in the way it was delivered. I don't usually get to the bottom of emails that lol like they are marketing.

It is the underhand way that this has been communicated that really annoys me and why, after many years with Deezer, I will be trying another premium music streaming service.

The only 'option' on offer is take it or leave.

If you feel you *have* to provide HI-FI to satisfy demand, fine, but it should be OPTIONAL.

I'm either listening on a smart speaker, earphones from my phone or Bluetooth from my phone in the car.

HI-FI I don't need, nor want.

Looks like I'll be leaving, having used Deezer since it was offered up as an extra by Orange.

Do you have any mobile providers providing it ?

Despite of Prise raise in Finland, Deezer Premium is still offered within DNA for 9,99 (vs. 10,99) and Deezer Familie for 14,99 (vs. 18,99). They are not in a very hurry to change prices, so lower price.

It might be option in your case, look what providers offer Deezer, they may still run old price.

Thanks for the feedback @seders. I’ll definitely let our Marketing team know for future email communications.

It's ridiculous how much they're looking to increase whilst the service quality is still the same. And I honestly loved deezer used it for over 10years I'll be leaving them too.

I'm cancelling my subscription and moving to Spotify which is currently £9.99 in the UK.

Just read a similar email. I'm on a family plan which is apparently going up by £3 per month! So it's gone from being one of the cheapest services to the most expensive.

Terribly worded email from Deezer with the price rise mentioned in the last paragraph.

I suspect there will be a lot of cancellations as a result of this. I'll be one of them.

I’m on the same boat and currently studying the option to change to Amazon or Apple music. My Family plan is going from €14,99 to €18,99 suddenly (I’m based in Ireland). The price increase, the way they communicate it… it is all wrong and unfair for the customers. Outrageous!

@Priscila Di Luca We are adjusting prices in a number of our markets. The audio streaming industry has had unchanged prices for over 10 years and we need to make sure that we can continue supporting the artists we love and investing in improvements and features that audio fans love.
This decision reflects the wider realities and evolution of our industry and the fact that we are a challenger and need to stay ahead of our competitors to continue growing.
Thanks

It’s sad to see that you and your Customer Support are only copying and pasting the same poor message in all channels. This just shows how you’re not listening to the community and honoring our subscriptions. You could raise the price, that’s fair, but should at least have given us paying customers time to decide if we want to accept that or not. If we have budget to accommodate this change or not. Must say, this was a low move.

Especially because it was explicitly mentioned by Deezer chief commercial officer Laurence Miall d’Aout, “Deezer isn’t going to raise prices in the middle of the pandemic” and that if “we ever were to increase prices, we would give our users a three-month heads up to make sure that it doesn’t come as a surprise”

So, based to that, how come I was only notified about this change - that will make an instant impact on my monthly budged - last month, precisely on October 12th?

2) Also, it is mentioned on the email that "This update will allow us to deliver even more value for your membership" however, what exact improvements you will add onto my subscription with this price increase? What exact improvements I will see as a paying customer?

I run budgets myself.

This is how I don’t stay poor or paycheck to paycheck. They indeed sent message of price raise just when it was about to go live. Poor decision. I needed in a hurry to make sure from which area in my budget I will cover €1 increase for almost nothing. I don’t use Hi Fi too much to really enjoy it.

I decided to change since other company has been running same increase for the longer time, but their app seems to suit my needs better. I did take that €1 from other budget area, so solved.

It’s sad that customer care are too easy to copy paste.

When I worked in customer care services, not at Deezer, I never copypasted anything.

I was getting constant high customer rates because of personal help.

I hope Deezer can learn something from it.

@Priscila Di Luca I understand your frustration and get your point about the same response from CC and here in the Community. However, that’s an official reply from our PR department and we just provide the exact same message to all our users in order to be aligned and avoid any misunderstanding
We are the only independent global challenger left in the audio streaming industry, which is fast and changes everyday. We understand that you were not given 3 month notice on price increase as promised in May, but we had to adapt to the current competitive landscape. That’s why we’ve chosen to make HiFi part of all our subscriptions in your country and adjust the price point.
Thanks :)

So put up the prices, just checked all my emails and not one from you telling me if the price increase. Surely that's stealing taking extra money without telling them. Check my spam folder too. Your robbing gits. Bye bye deezer.

Sad to see you go. Price increase is never good uninformed. I hope you can find solution.

Posters are mentioning £2 and £3 here. Has the UK now been included in the new HiFi plan?

@dee_dirk You mention Deezer taking into account the need for HiFi and HiRes quality above. Does that mean that Deezer will be increasing the quality of their output up to 24-bit/192khz from 16-bit/44.1Khz Flac?

there is no improvement in output. unless i am sitting there with a device to measure this supposed ‘improvement’ i cannot detect it. also, shouldn’t i be able to choose this? shouldn’t the app have notified me, and not a shitty email which is trying to tell me that i am benefitting from their price hike. this is bullshit, i have already cancelled by subscription. i will go elsewhere. deezer can kiss my ass. i was happy with the service up until this deception.

the email in question is one banging on about some hifi bullshit. at the end of the email they state that the prices are going up, and that os apparently for our benefit. i’m so insulted,  i have cancelled my subscription.

i’m sorry but this answer is not helpful and does not acknowledge that apps can be a treat - a few quid a month can make a difference over a year. i have direct debits set up. if these go over, i can be in big trouble. why didn’t you add a banner to the app and a link so that people can make a decision? why didn’t you make the hifi thing optional? why has it been in operation for a month now without it causing any meaningful difference to the quality of the app?

if i had been notified last month i would have suspended my subscription and looked for another service for the new year. now i have given you an extra two pounds. a bus ticket to work over here costs a little more than that. i am currently not using this, but still feel that i need to let you know as you live in america. i have notified my friend who gets paid over the week, and she’ll need to think about whether or not she’ll be keeping you on her phone. this is a joke.

i don’t appreciate being deceived by a company like this. especially one that i have been paying for months. that email which was sent out was insulting to the intelligence of the people you sent them to. re-read it. it is awful. whoever signed it off is insensitive and does not seem to understand the customer base.

the lack of notification for the massive price hike is infuriating. i’d rather go without than pay it.

I was disappointed by the approach of the email.

It’s not acceptable to hide a price increase announcement at the bottom of several paragraphs of an email entitled “Your Deezer Family subscription is getting even better!”.

HiFi has no value to me as I can’t hear the difference in lossless encoding, so I will be moving elsewhere.

one hundred per cent agree

My family account has also gone up by £3 per month even though the email states it will rise by £2 per month. I still dont have access to the hifi option either so im paying more and getting nothing better for it!

Hello, @whenthesunhits and @Deano12345. We understand your frustration, please feel free to contact our Support to discuss your options as they will be able to look into your personal account and help your particular case. You only pass to Hifi when your subscription upgrades, so keep that in mind.

I have contacted support who informed me that it was a mistake on the email and i should have been quoted £3 per month and not £2 per month. Apparently its a mistake but i will have to pay the £3 and not the £2 quoted in the email.

That’s false advertising then .

Perhaps contact them and see if they can sell at $2 increase only for 6 months.

Cancelled instead

Been with Deezer since 2018.

I just got my email TODAY, the 19th Dec! entitled ‘Your Deezer Premium subscription is getting even better!’

What a lovely email I thought, informing me that I would now be getting a better service!  The digital world occasionally does this with the Virgin/O2 VOLT collab for example, ramping up my broadband and data allowance for being a customer for free… for now anyway. Nice.

So a dazzling service Deezer!

Until I fully read the email.  I am going to be charged 20% extra for this upgrade in service that I don’t want, and if you read the small print….you can opt out… by cancelling your subscription!?  You couldn’t make this PR fail up!  And it informed me that my prices would increase from the 21st Nov… almost a month ago.

I will also leave this to the last paragraph to say how much I loved Deezer in the past.  Particularly as it allowed you to upload your own tracks to stream.

But I cannot tolerate the misleading and insulting construction of this email.

My family plan has gone up to £17.99

think that’s a rip off tbh. I’m thinking of going back to Apple Music

Been with deezer since 2014 - Just cancelled my subscription after seeing the price increase in my bank account. Bit of a crappy way to treat customers.

But wait, they did add Hi Fi, no?

The most Hi Fi streaming apps sell to consumers “listen how artist intended”.

But, what if I told you:

There is no such thing as ‘what the artist intended.’ It’s ‘what the label wants.’

Labels want loud, because louder sells better.
