Automotive OS: Deezer's new Automotive app 🚘

The Automotive Operating System stands out as a key contributor to this extraordinary evolution, the enabling of seamless integration of various connected services. With this, drivers and passengers can now enjoy the convenience of accessing and listening to their favourite music directly from DEEZER within their vehicles, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Automotive OS is Google’s operating system that allows you to download the Deezer app directly to your car, creating a complete ecosystem within it! You will be able to listen to your library, albums, artists and flow. You can even favourite songs that you enjoy when listening to Flow!

Ā

Who can use the DEEZER integration?

User with an active DEEZER subscription. If you don’t have one you can subscribe here https://www.deezer.com/en/offersĀ

Ā

How can you access the Deezer integration in your car’s built screen?

  • Start by locating the Deezer app icon on your car’s in-built screen.
  • Once you have located the DEEZER app, tap on it to initiate the login process.
  • A unique QR code will appear on your screen.
  • Within the DEEZER app on your smartphone, look for an option to scan a QR code.
  • Tap on it to activate the scanner.
  • After successfully scanning the QR code, your smartphone will prompt you to enter a code displayed on your car's screen.
  • Look back at your car's screen and input the code exactly as shown on your smartphone.
  • Once the code is entered correctly, the DEEZER app will log you in, granting you access to a world of music and entertainment.

Having issues? Make sure:

  • Your app and device software is up to date and you’re connected to the internet.
  • Restart the app or even restart your multimedia system.
  • Delete the DEEZER app on the car media centre, and then reinstall it.

Will HiFi be available?

For the moment it will not be available, but it will be available in a future version.
Ā

Will Family accounts be available?

Yes, users with a Family account will be able to use the app. However, the ability to change profiles inside the app will not be available.Ā

For more information about switching accounts and creating independent accounts, visit here.
Ā

Will Automotive OS be available with every car manufacturer?

Not every car will have Deezer available. This is due to each manufacturer choosing whether to have the Google Play Store or another third-party app store installed with Automotive OS.
Ā

Do I need the mobile version of Deezer to use the Automotive OS version of Deezer?

Only for the login. If you want to enrich your automotive experience, you should use either the mobile app or the website.
Ā

Are podcasts and radio available on Deezer Automotive OS?

Podcasts and radio stations are not available on Automotive OS for now!
Ā

Can I view the lyrics?

No. Anything which could distract the driver of the vehicle is seen as a hazard. Therefore, anything that involves displaying lyrics or playing games inside the car is forbidden.

Can I use FLOW on Automotive OS?

Yes! If you encounter any issues, please look at these tips on how to improve your Flow Tip: Get the most out of FLOW.
Ā

Is there another way to log in to the Automotive app other than a QR code?

Using a QR code is the only method currently available to log in.

Ā

What is the difference between Automotive OS and Android Auto?

Android Auto is Google’s phone-to-dash technology, which takes your phone and displays it on your car’s display. However, Automotive OS is its operating system, meaning your phone is not connected to the display and the Deezer Automotive OS app will exist separately from the mobile counterpart.

Ā

How to log in with the sub-profiles of the family plan?

There is no ability to switch between profiles after login in the car app. To change the profile on a DEEZER Family account, the user will need to log on to the correct profile on his phone and then scan the QR code.
Ā

What do you think about this new feature?

    Hi @LeonĆdia.DeezerĀ

I do think you are making a mistake here. The AAOS version is little more than a beta test version in its current form.Ā It really requires you to allign it with your other software.Ā

For example, when I search something, I get three results for song, three results for album, and three results for playlist, and that’s it. There is no option to ā€˜expand a category’ and see all search results for song or so. If whatone isĀ looking for is not ranked in the top 3, then bad luck.

In general, it’s extemely disappointing how you don’t seem to succeed in having all the same features working everywhere. Gapless works on web platform but not on the desktop app, mp3-playback works on web and appĀ but not on AAOS, etc…

You are already months if not yearsĀ behind in developing something for AAOS, could you please make itĀ a priority to have thisĀ functioningĀ properly? And do streamline all features on all platforms, so that everyone gets the same seamless experience all the time.Ā It’s extremely frustrating for your loyal customers who haven’t fled toĀ Spotify yet.

Hello @R2VĀ I have already corrected my post above. What I wanted to mention was the Android Auto.

When I asked our team regarding Automotive OS app, I got a ā€œquestion markā€ā€¦Ā so maybe. It is currently being studied. As you know the stand alone app is giving the first steps yet and there is work to do, feature that potential can be added in the future.

Also when I raised this question of the Offline mode, I asked about the Carplay and the reply was the same as for the Android Auto. Nevertheless in Carplay you have a section ā€œDownload musicā€.

    Great feature when it works…

i can switch to HiFi res in the settings but I have to switch in between songs manually. The song stops 2 sec before the end and that s it. No automatic transition to the next one.Ā
even if the internet area is full blastĀ

    AAOS

I am missing the shuffle function when playing a playlist. I also missing the possibility to play my own mp3. Therefore i concider change to spotify. I have been satisfied with Deezer so far.

I’m happy to be able to use Deezer on my Volvo EX30, which has AAOS.

However, there are two quite annoying bugs that I have discovered so far:

    1. When starting the car, music playback is stopped (this might be a car-software related thing). But nothing happens when I press the play button on the home screen. I have to open up the Deezer app and start the playback from there. Other apps just resume playing, without the need to open them.
    2. The Deezer app does not remember the shuffle setting in my playlist. I have to re-enable shuffle mode each time I drive the car.

    hey @nichu42Ā

I think you’ll find that the AAOS apps (all of them, not just the music apps) are somewhat unique in that they need to be tailored for their application, running in a car with a (somewhat) limited processor and dataĀ speeds.

The deezer app (for me) seems to have been designed to run light and fast, and I find that I don’t have any issues with it bogging down or with the music buffering, so I’m willing to trade a few ā€œfeaturesā€ for that. I also feel like it is still in its infancy and look forward to the updates.

That said, I find the occasional reset of the infotainment system smooths out many app functions, I would suggest that.

By contrast, the Tidal and Amazon Music apps were both ponderously slow and constantly buffering and pausing my music. Spotify has been fraught with issues and complaints (I linked one of many Reddit complaint threads above) and Apple Music does not even offer an app. I will concede that the YouTube MusicĀ app is quite well done and comparable with deezer, but I suppose that should be expected, given that Google is the parent company of both.

    Ā

Congrats on your new Volvo EV and enjoy your music!

Does the app now support hifi?
