What TV Streaming Devices work with Deezer

UberOrion
Runaway Baby

Tl;DR - What streaming services does Deezer have an app for? (Roku, Android TV, Chromecast, etc)

I’ve been enjoying Deezer so far on Linux, Windows, and iOS, but I can only airplay it to my home theater system via Roku or my LG TV.

I see here that Deezer claims to have apps for various streaming platforms and TVs. However LG is listed but the app is not in the LG store.

From reading other posts here, support on streaming players is spotty. The Roku app doesn’t exist anymore.

So what streaming devices does Deezer work on? Which ones does it work well on? With the full lossless audio?

Deezer also works very well with Alexa Echo devices.

@UberOrion

For best performance, compatibility and Hifi Quality i suggest using a google chromecast. For me with controlling the cast from the Deezer iOS App on my iPhone this works pretty good.

Thank you for your response! I would be curious to see what other devices people have had good experiences with as well using Deezer.

You can also control the Alexa Show devices with the Alexa app for Android, in the Alexa app in the "Playback" section.

@greenster

But selecting and starting playback of Deezer content can’t be done from the Alexa app, right?
Therefor you need voice control as far as i know.

Yes, you first call up a playlist or the flow via voice command and then you can use the control via the Alexa app.

Have you used it on Android TV as well?

No, with an Android 12 smartphone.

Thank you all for your input. It’s looking like the Chromecast is probably the best solution for playing music directly from my TV. Chromecast and Xbox are also the only apps for TV Deezer says will play HiFI.

I am disappointed there is not a Roku app, however a $30 Chromecast isn’t a big deal.

I am curious if Android TV works well with Deezer too. I may see if I can borrow one from a coworker to try it.

Don’t expect too much from Android TV app. Last update from 2019, no losless audio, no informations on updates.

Good to know. In that case I’d rather stick with Roku and airplay.

I figured the Chromecast app and Android TV app would be the same.

@UberOrion

Airplay needs a lot of resources… and wifi bandwidth. Also the device receiving and airplaying the stream has to be active all the time.
I definitely suggest buying a chromcast device and initializing the cast from the deezer app (Android or iOS).

From Chromecast can I use Deezer entirely from the TV? Or does it require my phone? Does it play lyrics on the screen?

The Google TV app, which I assume is the Android TV app since it has to be loaded through the app store, works fine, but not in HiFi. Deezer has also recently fixed the Chromecast issues that started last February so it should work with older Google Chromecast devices and other hardware that supports Chromecast again, but be aware that the initial connections are exceedingly slow. From the time I select Cast from my phone to a 1st generation Chromecast or Chromecast Audio device it takes a good 40 seconds before it starts playing, and you’re likely to think it doesn’t work if you’re not patient enough. I believe this is also true for some receivers that have 1st generation Chromecast support built in.

I used to use the Roku app but it wasn’t very good and didn’t work in HiFi. If you’re looking for an app that supports lots of hardware, Deezer isn’t it ...

@UberOrion

I just can tell you that i have no problems casting to a HDMI chromecast V2 that is connected to my tv. Initializing the cast can be done frommthe deezer app on an android or iOS device

There are onlyna few seconds until the stream starts.

Yup, my newer Chromecast devices connect reasonably quickly. It's 1st generation devices that don't.

Yes, 1st gen devices are very old and have weak hardware for working with recent casting standards.

This is a pain for older high end audio hardware with build in casting functionality. But buying a newer google chromecast device isn’t that much and works properly.

This is not a hardware speed issue. Plex, Tidal and other apps have no trouble connecting quickly, nor did Deezer at one point. This is a matter of poor programming / support. And since it also impacts AV receivers with similar built-in hardware it is not, in my opinion, something that should be rationalized  and accepted so easily.

Works fine on my LG - maybe it depends on the age of your TV, but the app is in the LG Store here.

I have a new LG OLED TV I bought recently. Couple of months ago. Deezer software does not appear to be on there.

I’ve seen mixed results on whether or not the Deezer app is available on LG TVs online.
