Deezer HiFi for Denon HEOS and Denon / Marantz HEOS built-in devices

Hi there,

I have been using Deezer for years, and have quite a big collection on it, but if this problem isn’t sorted out and I cannot play HIFI on my Marantz PM 7000N I will have to shift to other streaming services.

What I find sad is that other streaming services such as Qobuz have found a workaround, using UPNP/DLNA protocols that are supported by Marantz (using third party apps such as Bubble UPNP).

Could Deezer provide UPNP integration ? this  would be a viable workaround, which would not rely on Heos teams.

best

Hey @SevenOf1

I completely get where you're coming from. I've been here with our community users and this is a subject I take a lot of ownership of.

I've been discussing the integration with our developers who have been in touch with HEOS to get this off the ground. I can assure you, we're now working to get this sorted.

It's a two-way project, but HEOS is getting all the support from us on the integration. I hope to have more exciting news at the beginning of 2021, so please stay tuned :v_tone2:

Is there any progress?

it’s been years we wait for this upgrade. Really sad and poor attention from Denon/Deezer

Let's hope that we at least get an update.

I would not trust it too much, it should have been out on beginning of 2021, we’re beginning of 2023 and we have no clue. I am afraid the project could be dead.

I am absoluty consifering to switch to another provider if this does not improve soon.

The integration with Heos is unfortunatly just bad

Just signed up for Deezer HiFi as a cheaper alternative to Tidal for use with my Denon home cinema receiver and very disappointed to see the quality limited to MP3 320Kbps.

Also very disappointed to see this thread dragging on for a year with no resolution.

I'm going to cancel my subscription. For my use case, there's no benefit to me over using Spotify until HEOS streaming is supported at the advertised HiFi / Lossless bitrates.

What the industry needs is a platform similar to Spotify Connect which allows other streaming services like Tidal or Deezer to select the target playback device from right within the app itself rather than relying on third party integration from the likes of HEOS.

While Spotify is limited to 320Kbps the usability and integration of the platform just puts the competition to shame. Here's hoping Spotify roll out HiFi streaming soon.

Hi @Badirr @lvrmsc @Pima @Alex Po

Thanks for waiting. After a few chats with our product teams about this, we managed to activate FLAC streaming for the HEOS app   I now need you to test this and let me know how it works, to make sure we're doing the right thing

Hello Rudi,

Hi Denon/Marantz owners))

1 year is ending soon after first message in this topic.

We are still waiting and hoping.

Day by day))

Still MP3

@Rudi For the Deezer App I am a Beta Tester already  and for the HEOS App the feedback received now is that they are currently not looking for Beta testers and would like to contact me when they have a need but I still don’t know if they use Testflight then. Or will they have to us that as there is no other possibility for testing iOS Apps?

Userlevel 4

Completely agree, it is a shame that nobody from Deezer comes back with an update for so many months.

@Rudi, OK, I’ll watch this thread to monitor Deezer’s progress on FLAC with Heos, and may come back to Deezer HiFi if this gets resolved.

Hi there, I’m using a Denon. I also set up a deezer Hifi account to be able to use it with the Heos App. But as so many others here, I wondered cause of not being able to stream in flac quality.

I really like the diversity on deezer (music + podcasts) but without having the flac streaming option it is kind of useless to me.

I personally do not want to connect my cellphone with my denon with Airplay. If I do so, I will risk disconnection while I’m juming around my house/garden.

Kindly fix these Heos flac issue, or I need to stay with an other service in the future.

What is the actual expectation to get this HEOS issue solved by your developer team? There must be a project plan otherwise, I’m sorry to say, all the kind deezer support words here are just to satisfy us customer for some more days.

Hand on heart, it is time for no excuses!

Sorry to hear that @Docock please subscribe to this topic so that you get notifications on future updates :v_tone2:

Dear All! I am new here, and would like to share with all Marantz and Denon users my experience of listening Deezer HiFi subscription in 16/44.1 (redbook) quality at home. I will not blame anybody here, I have read all the history, and can confirm only, that till now (28.04.2021) HEOS app, does not stream Deezer HiFi in lossless format to my Marantz PM7000n, at least it shows me “mp3 320 k.bit” in the app, when playing Deezer through the app, having HiFi subscription.

So, how to solve this issue and get to down sampled music streamed wirelessly to you home stereo setup? Here we currently have two options, and I have used them both with pleasure:

  1. For those who have relatively new models of Denon and Marantz items and IPhone or IPad, which support the Airplay 2 protocol via home wi-fi network - simply use this! Exactly 2nd version of Airplay protocol sends the audio via wi-fi to your devices without down sampling (it only converts flac to alac format of the data stream), so your device DAC will get if properly. I got only one problem here: IPhone cannot find my Marantz PM7000n via wi-fi connection due to poor home modem/router (many user face such issue around the world) but it works ideally if you connect your device to LAN with cable! Please check this out!

Both option were perfectly fine to me. Moreover, I tried to play Deezer tracks in Heos app. and realized that the app itself is uncomfortable to use, so I do not like it at all, and therefore I do not wait for HiFi support there at all.

Cheers to all, and happy listening! Take cheap used Xbox, and be happy with a very useful media device, for many purposes, like video, audio, network, gaming, even CD playing ;-)

Hello Yuriy,

I have Marantz NA6006 streamer and I’m not able to do as you descibed in step 1.

When I start Deezer app on my iPad Pro (2019) and click on Cast to icon I don’t see my Marantz device? Is there some incompatibility with my NA6006 device or..?

Thanks!

Misa

Hello @Richard Newbold, he meant streaming from a computer or a mobile connected to the Marantz, in your case

I'm sorry if my question seems stupid to you. Tell me, if I run the deezer app on my iPhone with a hi-fi subscription, and send a stream using Airplay to my denon dnp-800ne does this mean that I listen to FLAC? The app displays the "HiFi" label.

I feel so cheated that I own 9 Heos speakers and 1 Heos Amp and now, anno domini 2020 I still have to download flac files, copy/paste to a USB stick to enjoy quality sound! And this just because that some software geeks could not find common language to make an audio codec understand an internet flow!!! It’s like rewinding a stuck tape casette with a pencil… I tried to output the deezer HIFI from a laptop to Heos Amp, but the laptop 3.5 mm jack is not really hifi…  I used a headphone amp Fiio that knows 24bit/192khz, but really??? So if I have to buy a laptop with an optical output, pardon me… it is cheaper to switch to Tidal, even it means pay more. What puzzles me is why Heos already has flac from Tidal and Amazon and you say that the problem is at Heos? How the hell comes the sound different from all these providers: via Moon , via Mars… via FBI, KGB???

HIFI isn’t supported on all devices however please have a look at which ones are, here: https://www.deezer.com/devices/. We do hope to support other devices in the future however for now it is supported by the devices shown in the link 🙂.

But I will pass on your suggestion to our development team in regards to Denon HEOS soundbars support. Hopefully we will be able to satisfy your request soon!

Thanks Kevin

I can’t figure how to stream Deezer from Android to Marantz directly. As everyone has mentioned HEOS only streams Deezer at 320kbs. Marantz doesn’t seem to work with Chromecast and Deezer doesn’t have a DNLA function.

The only workaround I can see is Alexa but this doesn’t give access to playlists, you can get albums and flow to work. Not too keen to use a PC, have a 500gb phone to use as a server which is far handier.

Any alternative ideas welcome?

Kind Regards

Richard

Hi there @Serg.Foger

Denon needs to give us a hand for that but feedback duly noted 😉

@JakobPra @Rudi I’m not sure if I understand JakobPra’s question: “What would you recommend to use to stream” - what kind of music, which gear (speakers)? When I compared Deezer HiFi to Spotify Free back then, I mentioned some tracks that I used and posted about it here and on Reddit. I also posted a photo of my ancient stereo gear somewhere (SAC 50T  mono power amps and Axton AX-80 3-way speakers). Or did I completely misunderstand the question?  And I don’t know anything about the Denon Heos system, but still own a very old Denon CD player, I think it might still be my most expensive single HiFi product - which I don’t use anymore.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us @heos I can imagine in Vietnam it must be complicated to return the device. But I can assure you we're also pushing for a HiFi improvement on this, their developers just need a bit more time :thumbsup_tone2:

Does it happen with every single track? I'm asking this because it's not all songs that are on flac quality, I believe it's about 80% of the content. Let me know!

Today I got confirmation from Denon HEOS that Deezer HiFi is not supported at this time.

They didn't give me any timeframe when this will be available.

At this point the only FLAC enabled service on HEOS is Tidal.

I can confirm that is working.

Userlevel 3
Yes. Every track.
Denon sais they do not support it yet.
You can better remove the hifi logo from heos on the site, because people now think it is supported.
Deezer put it there by accident I suppose.

I have a Deezer HiFi plan: I switched from TIDAL to DEEZER thanks to the lower price and because Deezer supportrs Google Home. Yet although advertised as comptible, Deezer HiFi is not working through HEOS on my Marantz amplifier: all I get in Mp3.

So either Deezer is lying or my setup is wrong: is there a solution or do I need to go back to TIDAL?

Hi there @Giovanni Stoto

Thanks for sharing your comments with us. We're looking into HiFi streaming via the HEOS app, our devs are working on this. Please see my reply above for more info :v_tone2:
