New logo: Explanations 💜

After the announcement of the new logo and the new identity of Deezer, we took the time to read all your comments and feedback in order to address your concerns and understand your feelings

Opinions are very divided and several details were pointed out, including one that came up quite often: Why did you choose a heart 💜?
One comment cited “there is a more distant connection to music compared to the old logo”

The beating purple heart simply represents love and passion for music. The shapes of the logo vary to signify musical rhythms. Its movement and pulsing quality directly reflect the essence of music and the human response to the listening experience, much like a heartbeat.

Another question was “why did you decide to change everything/what is the purpose of this new identity?”

Deezer helps you “be and belong,” going beyond streaming to empower fans, artists and partners to express themselves and connect through our products and services.

Refreshing our visual identity is essential as we enter this new era for Deezer. This allows us to connect emotionally with music fans, artists and strategists through visual cues that let people know that with Deezer they can experience music, not just listen to it.

“The choice to have prioritised this change was not the best, it would have been good to strengthen the user experience rather than degrade it.”

Satisfying our users experience is indeed crucial. Development and modification choices can be complex, which means that the change itself was so significant that some bugs crept in during this transition. All have been flagged by our developers and technicians, who are already fixing these errors.

The identity change will be present in all future app updates. We hope you will adopt the new design and enjoy the new Deezer experience.

We adopt this new identity with pride, and although not everyone likes it yet, we still hope to find a place in your hearts 💜.

    This is not the explanation, this is copy-paste from your design presentation. You've ruined the app, now you are ruining communication.

    Just stop and listen to people a bit, until it's too late.

    Colors are ugly, the font is ugly, the logo is ugly, the very idea of “be and belong” is just a plain nonsense. This makes no sense.

    Whoever did this to Deezer is working for Spotify, nothing else could explain this disaster.

    This is a mess. The font is so childish, everything looks unorganized. I preferred Deezer for 13 years over Spotify, because the latter was the cluster**** this now has become too.

    Spotify has more songs. I will definitely switch if you guys don’t make a button for us to select the old UI.

    I advise everybody to like the opening post!!

      My opinions about the new design:

    1. The new font of the title is horrible, it looks like a children's app or a Halloween edition;

    2. Logo looks like a dating app and the design is an aberration, on PC I can't see the details very well and the animation when starting up looks like a bat;

    3. The user interface is ok on Android, but it has problems, the Favorites tab shows three songs from my Favorites, but I prefer to see my Playlists first to Favorites (if possible, create an option to change the order of this);

    4. The UI and UX on Windows app doesn't work properly;

      Home UI

      Red Section: No longer slides the name of the song or the artists.
      Blue Section: Sometimes it doesn't show the playlists, just to create them and could have an option to change the size of the covers or remove them (like on Spotify).
      Yellow Section: It could be resizable (like in Spotify) and remove the Favorites and Downloads shortcuts (this could only stay in the Playlists section) and add the search shortcut in their place.

      Similar Artists UI

      Has A lot of space on the final of covers.

      Oficial Deezer Playlists

      Now Deezer playlist covers are ugly and very weird.

    5. All the bugs that have already been reported are still present in this new version, including some are UI issues, like these buttons.

      This buttons never worked on Windows App.

    The font is literally the Fortnite font.

    I don't understand why Deezer could not go on fonts.google.com and just find a font which is not hideous and not childish.

    I just feel sorry for all the public communications Deezer staff that have got to deal with this. I’m sure a lot of them know how awful the new UI is, and they gotta be the ones to take the blow for these stupid decisions made by the CEO and CMO. I can picture these two sitting in their big chairs thinking that what Deezer really needs is to look more like TikTok and Fortnie or whatever. Now they alienate their user base, suddenly change the entire app from top to bottom, worsen the experience and the looks, double-down on their imbecile decisions, and the users who rightfully so feel angry flood the inbox of the unlucky employees who have nothing to do with the decision and who now gotta give a half-assed pre-written excuse about “being and belonging and empowering”. Like what the fuck does that mean. I’m only here to listen to songs I like.

    It is clear the big people in the company won’t budge, as much as they know and see they fucked up. This project sunk hundreds of thousands of dollars, so if you still have hopes to see it being shut off in a week, it won’t. Next quarter, their stats will probably be down and they’ll still run with it because if they retract it looks bad on their part, even if it hurts the users.

    Congrats to the CEO and the CMO. Now your app looks like garbage, cost millions of dollars, and you’ll lose a few thousand users in the process. Genius move.

    I just can’t understand the “hate” towards the new design. You really can feel the “hate” between the lines sometimes. I really like the new purple colour and yes, even the new look & feel of Deezer.

    People are switching to others, only because of the new icon or colour. Their choice, I respect that,. But give yourself some time go get used to it. And what if the other also start changing things? Even the big green gigant did change a lot of things in the past.

    I know, some of you are thinking “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken” or “Why change it after so many years?”. But sometimes you have to change, try something new, even if not everyone likes the change. This could go the right or the wrong way. You can never please everyone I’m afraid.

    And yes, there are many things Deezer needs to fix in the app (iOS, Android….), so join this community where you can tell what you think about Deezer and tell them where the issues are. Now it looks like a lot of “newbies” that never been here are here only to rant about the new look.

    Well now, whatever you decide to do, we all love music, so please keep enjoying this 😀

    When you have to explain to the users the meaning of the changes, you have already lost. All the features and fixes that have been left undone for years, and this is the answer. I  cancelled my subscription for 5 users faster than a purple heartbeat.

    Ironicaly, after cancelling my family subscription I got an email telling me  they where sad to see me go😢 This is so self-inflicted. The teenagers didnt like it, the parentes didnt like it, me as an artist didnt like it. So it was an easy decision to leave.

    I’ve never hated an app icon before until I saw this on my phone. Fine if it was dating or health app but it’s not!

    Unsure what’s going on with font in the app, it looks like fortnite.

    We have YouTube premium as well but never really used their music app, now seems like a good time to try it as I don’t want this on my phone any more.Â
