Random volume increase to maximum

For about two weeks, I have been having a problem with the music randomly turning up to maximum volume. I thought it was a problem with the old iPhone (XS), after several reinstallations of apps and updating the phone to iOS 18 the problem persisted. I replaced the phone and on the iPhone 15 the problem still occurs, but surprisingly at a lower frequency. Normalizing the sound in the app options did not help. Please help or I will have a heart attack.  😭

Hello @AndrewRobert @edwindejong @Noah003 @Elize @Thomasp are you still having issues with the volume?

From one of the latest posts of @Evil Raccoon the feedback is that this tip sorted the problem for him. Other users have done the same procedure and the problem was gone.

Schnorbitz wrote: Uninstalled the Deezer watch app and the issue seems to have gone! Thanks for the suggestion above. This is fine for me as I didn’t actively use the watch app anyway. The built in Apple music watch app works for  track skipping.

Have you tried that?

Our developers are struggling to reproduce the same issue and without that, it is difficult to implement a solution.

They have asked to get this information from each user who is still affecting by the random volume increase issue (please provide information on all questions):

  • Are you using an Apple Watch in combination with your iPhone?
  • Is your iPhone in silent mode?
  • Focus mode is enabled on your iPhone?
  • Which AirPods model are you using?
  • Was the app running in the foreground or background when the issue occurred?
  • Did the issue occur after switching between apps (e.g., YouTube to Deezer)?
  • Which version of iOS are you currently using?

Uninstalled Deezer app on my apple watch and didn’t see the volume issue any more.
But that’s not how it’s supposed to be. I used the watch app quite often for hearing music offline without having the iPhone with me, for skipping titles, for liking and disliking songs. So it would be quite a loss if we can’t use it any more. Please see my annotations to your questions below.

They have asked to get this information from each user who is still affecting by the random volume increase issue (please provide information on all questions):

  • Are you using an Apple Watch in combination with your iPhone?
Yes, apple watch series 8 (GPS) and iPhone 15 pro. Latest watchOS and iOS installed.
  • Is your iPhone in silent mode?
    Yes, all the time.
  • Focus mode is enabled on your iPhone?
    No
  • Which AirPods model are you using?
Beats Fit Pro headphones, and Bose Mini II speaker. Volume issue occourred on both speakers idependently.
  • Was the app running in the foreground or background when the issue occurred?
Issue occurred both when iPhone was closed or when it was open with e.g. firefox openend.
As I’ve written some time ago the issue occurred repeatable when I reopened deezer app on my watch. So the watch was showing clock face, with the small deezer icon on top. Then I opened the deezer app either by pressing the small icon or by double-clicking the crown. And the moment the deezer app comes up, the volume increases.
  • Did the issue occur after switching between apps (e.g., YouTube to Deezer)?
As written before when switching from clock face or another app back to deezer app.
  • Which version of iOS are you currently using?
Always latest watchOS and iOS installed.

Hope that helps you narrow the bug.

After I uninstalled the Deezer app on my Watch the volume problem was gone. Since then I’ve been playing music without issue. Please find below my answers to your questions

  • Are you using an Apple Watch in combination with your iPhone? => yes.
  • Is your iPhone in silent mode? => no.
  • Focus mode is enabled on your iPhone? => no.
  • Which AirPods model are you using? => no AirPods. I stream music over Airplay to my speakers.
  • Was the app running in the foreground or background when the issue occurred? => foreground and perhaps also in the background but I don’t recall specifically.
  • Did the issue occur after switching between apps (e.g., YouTube to Deezer)? => no.
  • Which version of iOS are you currently using?  => 18.1.1

Hi everyone, Happy New Year to you all!

Our developers have shared some updates with us. In version 10.29, they’ve added a fix to improve the audio experience: when connecting to a Bluetooth speaker or using Airplay for the first time, the volume will automatically drop to 50% if it’s set to 100%, avoiding any sudden loud surprises.

Version 10.29 is now available on the App Store—don’t forget to update!

Hi Leonidia,

Thanks for the fix but it’s not a good fix for our problem.

You said that it would decrease volume to 50% on these two conditions :

  • volume is set to 100%
  • it’s the first time we use a bluetooth device or airplay

Every comment reporting the problem talk about a daily usage of deezer.

But, focusing on the real problem, it seems to be related to apple watch and deezer app for the watch.

I also have this problem, with same devices => iphone 13 pro, airpods 2, iwatch 7. The problem occurs on multiple devices : airpods, bluetooth speakers etc…

Seing the solution this day about removing watch app, I will try it and see if the problem occurs again or not.

But you should take this advice to developers to see if there is anything to do with apple watch app ;)

Hi @Patafoin! Thanks for your feedback! I understand the issue is still happening, and I appreciate you sharing more details.

The fix will be included in the new beta version 10.31.0, which should work better. It will be available at the beginning of February.

Any positive or negative feedback, please feel free to share it.

Let us know if you need any more help!

Hi Leonidia

thanks for your feedback.

Since my last message, îve uninstalled the deezer apple watch app and have no new bad event about the volume. Seems to really be linked to iwatch app.

hope the update will fix the problem and allow us to install th watch app again ;)

regards

@Leonídia.Deezer , here is the path to reproduce the issue:

iPhone + Apple watch + Deezer app installed on both.

Play some music on iPhone app and let the magic begin.

Here the issue is frequent on iPhone 16 Pro Max + Apple Watch Ultra 2 or iPhone 15 Pro Max + Apple Watch 8, all with the latest OS installed.

Let's celebrate the 3 months birthday for this issue.
