Linux needs a native client for Deezer!

I know that exist a client for Windows and Mac, but I can't to find any one for Linux. In my opinion the web version es pretty bad and the company can develop a port for their client.
I think that is important to cover all the platforms for all the users.

I recently created an Ubuntu script to install Deezer based on the fantastic work done by IlyaGulya and SibrenVasse on an AUR package for Arch Linux. It should work on Debian too since Ubuntu is based on Debian, but I haven't tested it.

You can view instructions on how to install it here https://github.com/siphomateke/deezer. It's not at all official and isn't guaranteed to work with future Deezer versions but it's what I am now using.

I'm not sure why Deezer hasn't added support for Linux yet considering the Deezer desktop app for windows is an Electron app and runs just fine on Linux with a few minor tweaks.

Hopefully this helps my fellow Ubuntu users.

We're trying to see if this is something we can now fit on our plans, so you need to give us a couple of months before we can have more information about it. But it's something we want to develop, yes :thumbsup_tone2:

@Rudi We keep meeting on different threads. :laughing: I’m also a Linux user and that’s my main reason for using the web player which generally works pretty well. :grinning: I’m rocking Peppermint which is a light weight distro based on Ubuntu. I haven’t tried using mellow player or any of the other players but would definitely like to see a dedicated desktop client for linux. It might be useful to Rudi and the developers to know which distros to focus on. I imagine Debian/Ubuntu and the wide Arch family would be some of the top contenders. :grin: Are there any Slackware or Gentoo users in the Deezer community?

Deezer: Good news everyone! Instead of making native applications we will use Electron. It has some overhead but makes building for other platforms very easy.

Community: Great! We will have an application for linux!

Deezer: Ummmm... Actually, no.

@Dmytro Nazaryk Has it been officially decided if Deezer is going to use Electron or are the devs still considering native apps for different distributions? I don’t know how using Electron would compare with mellow player or other players in terms of overhead. Any thoughts on this?

@Rudi Would it be useful to have a poll to see which distributions members are using, or is Deezer going with Electron? Also, is anyone in the Deezer community using FreeBSD, GhostBSD or one of the other BSDs? Let’s not forget OpenIndiana. and even less popular systems like Haiku. :grin: Heck, maybe someone out there is still rocking a rig with Amiga or OS/2 and using Deezer. :laughing: This kind of user fragmentation might be a challenge to the developers, so maybe a poll would give them a better idea of which distro to focus on.

Thank you for your support, glad to see your comments here. It hasn't been officially decided yet, but as we've used Electron for Mac and PC, I believe it's quicker to get something working on Linux that way, instead of a completely native app for different distributions. I'm asking you to wait until another couple of months to see how this is going so that I can give you more info on the subject :pray_tone2:
