Linux needs a native client for Deezer!

I know that exist a client for Windows and Mac, but I can't to find any one for Linux. In my opinion the web version es pretty bad and the company can develop a port for their client.
I think that is important to cover all the platforms for all the users.

I recently created an Ubuntu script to install Deezer based on the fantastic work done by IlyaGulya and SibrenVasse on an AUR package for Arch Linux. It should work on Debian too since Ubuntu is based on Debian, but I haven't tested it.

You can view instructions on how to install it here https://github.com/siphomateke/deezer. It's not at all official and isn't guaranteed to work with future Deezer versions but it's what I am now using.

I'm not sure why Deezer hasn't added support for Linux yet considering the Deezer desktop app for windows is an Electron app and runs just fine on Linux with a few minor tweaks.

Hopefully this helps my fellow Ubuntu users.

C’mon @Rudi , it’s been a long waiting and nothing, so far! I’m starting to look for alternatives and found this:

It’s still very new, but I confess it’s what I’m using - and liking - on Linux. I’d rather have the better quality of Deezer, but Olivia is doing fine so far. Take it as an example, it can’t be this hard!

Thank you for sharing with us. After speaking to our product managers, we were informed that a Linux app is in discussion, with some work already being done on it. But it isn't a priority for this year, so keep providing your feedback in order for us to give more support for the idea!

Spotify linux application is made by spotify developers, so they can use their own streaming platform while coding.

If deezer still has no linux applcation it means one or more of those things:
1. Developers don’t use the platform they create (they probably use some other streaming services, so they don’t care how good the application is)
2. Developers are explicitly banned from porting app for linux, which means the community must do it, but deezer on purpose is blocking the possibility to do so (not documented API, not portable frameworks, etc).
3. Developers use only windows (this should explain why some procedures are taking so much time)

Doesn’t matter what is the case for the issue, but anyway there is no hope for native linux application within a year.
For me it seems like the developers have no influence on application and product owner will never accept the whole work package required for porting it to linux while none of the developers wants to do it.

I recently suspended my spotify subscription, but seems like I have to reactivate it.

Thank you for your honest feedback. It is actually none of the above. As you could read from my previous post, it just hasn't been prioritised. Considering our size, we can only dedicate our resources to a number of planned features and fixes. This year has been a hard-working and improved year for Deezer, with several important milestones achieved and more to come before the end of the year - some of those which will elevate our service to different levels, certainly.

So having a Linux app is an exciting prospect - and that's why we invested in Electron to bring more possibilities to our desktop users. We certainly have a proven interest, but it can't be done at the moment. We wanted to make that a transparent answer to our community users as we're doing with all our most popular suggestions recently.

You need a Desktop App for Linux as well please. The Web version is ok, but a native Linux app will be so much better. Linux Desktop users are growing and you are missing clients by not having a Linux Desktop App version available.

FOSS is the future.
