Search: adapt for spelling mistakes

Hi Deezer team

I'd like to suggest that you adapt your search functionality to cater for spelling mistakes. Currently I could type something and literally misspell ONE letter and the search will yield zero results. Please tweak your algorithm to search for similar entries. For example, if I search for “Sister Deborah Kanso” it will display no results. That's because the name of the song is KanZo (my emphasis) with a ‘z’ not an ‘s’. Indeed if I retype it as Sister Deborah Kanzo”, it yields the correct result. For the search to not yield a single result because of one misspelt letter is just silly.

Thank you,

Kwabena

Hello @Kwabz11, I think this is indeed a good idea, thanks a lot for taking the time to suggest this. You have my vote, and feel free to vote for your own idea. If it gets enough support by other users on the Community, we will communicate it to our teams at Deezer

Have a nice weekend!

This is a cool one @Kwabz11, Kev is right. You've got my vote as well :v_tone2:

YES YES YES YES!!!!

We need this. The search is amazing, but only if you don’t misspell.

I give you an example. Da Tweekaz - Wodka will return search, but Da Tveekaz - Vodka will not.

I use glasses and can’t see properly when out under sunshine. I can’t stadn when I am out wating the bus, and I see no results and then I am trying to look closely where I did a mistake spelling it. Use it like Google search, did you mean? Time consuming especially for someone who can not see properly even with glasses. In sunshine etc. Screens are never too bright modern phones.

I used previous glasses which were worse, so they described new ones this year.

Even with them it is a difficult to see under sunshine where I did a mis spell because of poor screen light and too crazy sunshine which at summer is no avoid. Please fix it for good.

Than k you.

This one! It’s 2020 outside, not 2004

Well its basically just a disaster at this moment.
Its not only spelling mistakes, but some simple things like:

Search for: ‘19Hz’ → It does not show the ‘19 Hz’ artist. Just because of the missing space …

And I could not find a beautiful song just because of non-plural form of word:

Back to this topic,
I think the Dev Team working on improving search might want to take a look at this, most probably they know of this - but still worth sharing:

1. Search with typo-tolerance
2. Fuzzy Search

They can start there and explore more about levenshtein distance and make it happen!
They could also later improve on this method by creating a machine learning model to associate user inputs (typos or not) with what they actually pick from the results list, and so on.

The following idea has been merged into this idea:

All the votes have been transferred into this idea.

Have a nice weekend!

So this is a two year old thread, and there are many other threads in the idea section that seems super obvious to be in the app, some (like this) even are something that should have never ever been mentioned by the community since it is a basic function for an app.

But what is the threshold of votes before something actually happens? Like so many other threads I see community members and Deezer employees say that it is a great idea and that they have your vote. If even Deezer employees think its a great idea, why isn’t it implemented over two years later? It doesn’t even have an update. How long could it possibly take to implement? Even just implementing fuzzy search support untill a better solution is found seems trivial.

So far my rant, but still love Deezer no worries. Just frustrating that there seems no rush in just polishing it up and making it an even stronger competitor in this very competitive landscape.

Yes please, this should be implemented immediately. make the indexing like Spotify search engine.

In discussionLive

Oh my God it's happening! Everybody stay calm. Stay f*cking calm!

What does mean “LIVE”? A fix is live or discussion is live or production is live or what is live?

BTW I can’t still find the track with “kitty after dark”, have to prepend with “mr.”

“Harry Lauder” yielded no results. I found out in a Google search that he was knighted. “No!” I thought, “It can’t be!” But it was. “Sir Harry Lauder” yielded results. Why search Google? or allmusic.com? That should be done here. And the musicians and composers ought to be cross-indexed too.

How does one vote? I get, “you cann’t access this page.”
