Windows/Mac Deezer Desktop/Web App - Feedback for improvements

Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the space for all those improvement calls you kindly make to us when looking at how to make our desktop and web apps better platforms.

What should I post here?

  • if the app needs User Interface or User Experience (UI/UX) enhancements, let us know
  • if the app should be compatible with certain devices or audio outputs, we're with you
  • if there's a cool integration we should consider, shout out
  • and if any feature is missing, don't forget to mention

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version :floppy_disk:

Bonjour,

Hello,

I’m  new to Deezer and I have been impressed with the iOS app but the Windows desktop app is giving me some weird paper cuts. I don’t want to be too negative/harsh but the settings are so much less fleshed out compared to the mobile app (I’m sure this is where most of the audience is as well so I get it). Mostly surrounding look and feel. I was blown away by how much you could customize the iOS app and that is really important to me. I was surprised to see Windows/web is so much more static comparatively.

I have a few other grievances I’d like to be made known. Firstly the volume control is just weird. You could practically rent out the empty space on the bottom bar where the media controls are. Despite all this empty space, you still need to hover over the volume button (NOT CLICK!!) and then you can adjust the volume. You are not able to adjust the volume with the scroll wheel either when hovering over it despite that being native behavior pretty much everywhere else with a volume slider.

Another grievance is there is zero way to adjust sorting on the playlist sidebar… what is up with that? This would be acceptable for a beta desktop app but for production I can’t believe there is no way to adjust this side bar. It just is how it is…With quick access, I’d guess most people would want to pin a favorite playlist here (since you cant sort by most played on the dedicated playlist siderbar!!), but I only can pin artists, albums, flow, “by deezer” and tracks.. What??? Lastly, there is no easy way to tell what playlist is currently playing. Again these are all just paper cuts but these are weird ones to have for such a mature product. It gives me this feeling of the people who develop it don’t even use it. Not trying to be harsh but you very clearly have a capable team that has it dialed in on the iOS app. I’d love to see similar efforts happen on the desktop/web experience.

VOLUME SLIDER IN WEBAPP

Currently you have to hover over the volume symbol for the slider to become visible and then find the exact hitbox for the slider to move it. This design is absolutely atrocious, as the slider disappears when the cursor is like ¼ pixel too far from the hitbox. Now imagine an incoming call (teams or softphone on the same device that is playing the music) and you quickly want to turn music down instead of completely muting it.

Just show the slider right away, there’s enough space for that in the webapp!

Could you maybe create a dedicated “Offline mode” switch? I often have to use Deezer on my macbook while being connected to a router which isn’t connected to the internet and it seems as if Deezer isn’t really able to handle that, as sometimes downloaded songs don’t even start playing or keep stopping even though they’re downloaded.
