What is it playing right now?

Thanks @STeeL835

Could you please be more specific? What do you think we can improve on?

I see you are tweaking deezer’ appearance little by little, so I think you can improve the layout of this panel too, giving more focus on essential elements like media buttons, seekbar and the main info about the current track. The problem on the screenshot is that it gets many elements in such a way that you can’t see even 1 character of a track name. And the screenshot isn’t even that narrow (though it is minimal width for the app as of now).

Probably, make it responsive by moving/regrouping/hiding elements in popups/menus, reducing paddings as panel gets smaller and smaller.

I’m not a designer, but I tried to make something that would fit more things, just for example. Not insisting on it, but just to show some ideas.

It’s more dense, but has room for track info, volume slider, bigger track cover, bigger seekbar (with less screaming default color), and queue source. Clicking track cover could open the queue panel.
Seekbars here don’t have color only because I chose these whitish covers

Hello,

Some thoughts on the desktop app, especially on macOS:

App framework (mostly macOS oriented)

  • It’s based on Electron, which is regrettable. We’d rather have a Mac Catalyst app (please let us run the iOS version on Apple Silicon macs at least).
  •  It’s still not compatible with Apple Silicon (M1 and the likes). Spotify is.
  • As far as I understand, it’s based on a now unsupported Electron version. The framework version reads 12.0.4 (https://www.electronjs.org/releases/stable?version=12&page=5#12.0.4), which was released on April 21st, 2021, has been superseded with numerous security updates in the v12 branch (it ended at 12.2.3 on November 15th, 2021), a branch that has reached end of support on November 16th, 2021 with the release of the v16 branch (https://www.electronjs.org/releases/stable?version=16&page=2#end-of-support-for-12xy-1600). I don’t like running apps with security issues.

App features

  • We miss a AirPlay 2 option in the app. Please bring this.
  • We miss a setting to follow the system light/dark mode.
  • We miss a way to make feedback from within the app: error on lyrics, tracks, artists or features, ideally with a follow up.

Please make the best desktop app for the music lovers.

Best.

No one wants to Electron based App :(

Hello,

I’d like to have these features:

  1. Scroll playlist/queue to the position of currently playing track (automatically). I often listen to long playlists (whole discographies - several hours long) and sometimes I have to scroll manually.
  2. Show Album name in Queue. Currently there is no info about album name in queue. No column, only cover picture.
  3. Multi-select using Shift + Click and Ctrl + Click (Like in Windows explorer)
  4. Context menu (for example mouse right button) for selected items. When I want to to delete selected tracks from the end of playlist it’s very inconvenient  - I have to scroll to the beginning of playlist

BTW: Sorry for my english. Hope you understand.

Greetings to the deezer community and developers. I want to recommend a little improvement to the desktop version of the app.
1st, in full-screen mode, make it possible to reduce the left section for more space.
2nd, make a small window to save space when a person listens to an album or their tracks.
3rd, make a small footnote of information about the artist (BIO, Latest release, Upcoming tour).

Just wanted to give a thumbs up for a well implemented feature. The normalize audio setting is available from the main screen and takes effect instantly. This is good, I can turn it on for casual listening to mixes and quickly turn it off when listening to a complete album.

Hi

For Mac users would be great the native apple silicon compatibility as well intregration with the touch bar or control buttons for the macbook air.

As well in the app when the screen goes off the next song does not play, which does not happen in the browser player.

Thx

When you use the volume up/volume down hotkey in the Deezer desktop app, the volume goes up or down by 10 out of the max possible 100. This is far too much in my opinion.

I suggest adding a setting to customize how much the volume increases/decreases when you adjust it with a hotkey. So if you set that setting to 2, hitting the volume up hotkey would make your volume go from 40 to 42, then 44, 46, etc. (as an example)

Yesterday I got the update and the app is now version 4.28.0 on my Windows 10.

What has changed and so, if there’s possiblity to see the changelog I would like to know more.

Hey @torales

That's on our radar (an app for the M1). The new version of our app, coming soon, should fully integrate with the touch bar and control buttons. We'll just need you to test it

Thanks a lot for the feedback on the feature @snaut it's always super nice to get good criticism on stuff we work hard to provide our users with :hugging:

I would like to have automatic playlists.

Little bit like itunes. There is a future to make automatic playlists. Depends on different rules.

For example:

Gerne

Liked or disliked songs.

Length from song.

Years.

Etc etc.

When I like a song or add to my library it moves automatically to the playlist where he matching the rules..

Used the Windows app for a few minutes, then closed it only to find that the music was still playing.

Went to settings to turn off the close to tray feature. There isn't such a setting.

NO! This is irredeemably bad design! Close means CLOSE!!! And to not even have it as a SETTING?!?

FIX IT!!!

Please add folders for more convenient library management, I have 150 personal playlists and 300 for music search, (I am a DJ), in the form in which playlists are displayed now, it is very difficult to work with them, thanks

it would also be nice if the tracks that we prohibited from recommending were a little darkened in playlists and the deezer would skip them in playlists and not play if they came across in queue

So I wrote this in a review of the phone app but I’m pretty sure it applies to the desktop app too.

  1. I have a favourites collection of 3k+ songs, and when I go to add/delete etc. a song to a playlist or remove from favourites it jumps me back to the top of the page EVERY TIME. This makes adding songs to playlists or editing favourites EXTREMELY frustrating and time consuming. It would be much more convenient to have it hold your place.
  2. This is also true when navigating back and forth between pages (like pressing the back button should take you back to where you were on the page not the top)
  3. When navigating a large favourites list it is also frustrating to not have a letter jump/scroll bar on the side. This is especially true on the phone app where you’re scrolling forever to get to the middle letters.

Since I use streaming services mostly to make/share playlists this is kind of a deal breaker for me unfortunately. I like the HQ sound on Deezer and I like Deezer as a company better than Spotify but this stuff makes the app borderline unusable for me at times.

Do we really need to see this big banners ?

I came to update playlists for Deezer people and again was shocked by these tremendous banners.

Looks like they’re designed to scale to full width of the page. Normally the page contains only four “squares” for me, and when it’s the case, the banners don’t look tremendous - they’re as big as two squares. But when I maximize the window, they do look too big. Maybe scaling should be capped at 2x squares, leaving more space around the banners if the screen is more than 4x squares wide.

Here’s what I’m getting normally:

Hello Deezer! I’ve just switched from Tidal, because of terrible sound quality with their latest update trends (in hifi).

I’m enjoying the reference sound finally with your hifi subscription! My music system is consisting of a pair of Nubert rc6000’s and a pc4000 sub.

I immediately miss two most important feature that existed in Tidal though: “Exclusive Playback” and “Force Volume”. Those really changed the sound in a cleaner manner and stage to be more “present” as soon as kicked in. I am of course talking about the windows desktop app - audio settings.

Just my two cents.

Agree about settings, it could accumulate different settings in one place with tabs

  • Window viewport zoom (to keep it on restarts) (also make zoom in on ctrl + [+], not ctrl + shift + [+])
  • Close button behavior
  • Sound settings from popup on music control panel
  • Sound output settings (windows can’t help you if you have wireless headphones connected and suddenly sounds start to play from laptop speakers)
  • Crossfade and cue settings (I remember they were implemented in previous major version)
  • A path for music cache
  • A list of paths with music stored locally (but that’s for using it as a regular player, which is a separate big feature)

Some settings don’t have functionality right now, but such functionality is nice to have

The desktop app should be made touch friendly for Windows 11.

Can you please add a way to access artists and albums from the home page like it used to be.

A lot of us don’t use playlist, please don’t design an app with just playlist user persona in mind.

The artist’s main page is incredibly cluttered.

It’s very important that the discography page can be easily navigatable because it can hold a tremendous  amount of records.

My suggestions:

  •  Seperate the discography page from the main page. The main page can have a small list of top and latest releases with a link to the full discography page.
  • The sections (Albums, Live, compilations..) should be collapsable.
    • The main album and EPs should be initially fully expanded.
    • The current dynamic expansion doesn’t work well, and you have to scroll up and down a few times for it to expand, and sometimes the other sections get expanded accidently and you get easily lost in the wrong section. Not very helpful when trying to find an old album for an artist with many many releases.
    • The other sections, like compilations, live etc.., can be very large for older artists, and should be initially partially collapsed, with  only a handful of top releases shown, and a manual expand button.
  • I’d move special edition releases (e.g. deluxe, collectors, aniversary, remastered, etc.. ) into their own section, outside of the Albums sections.  i.e. The Albums should only be all the official releases consisting of unique material. (And maybe on the Albums pages, there could be links to related releases.)
  • Need additional view modes (in addition to Grid, List):
    • Table View (Without tracks), a compact view that shows the artists, the album names, years and types in columns, and that allows sorting, and filtering.. maybe with checkboxes on the top to select which types (albums, live, EPs, compilations..) should be included in the same table.
    • Small Grid, like grid but with smaller artworks.
  • I’d move the ‘Featured in’ to its own separate page outside of the discography page, because it can be in  the thousands, and isn’t really part of the artist’s “dicography”

If you made is this far, thanks for reading!

I’m a songwriter, and so I’m always interested to know the songwriters of a song.

Currently you have to click the dots then select Credits, to see the songwriters, one song and a time, not very helpful if you’re curious to know who wrote one on an album.. So it’s faster to just go to AllMusic or Wikipedia to see the credits.

It’s be nice to see each song’s songwriters plainly on the album’s page. Or at least to have the option to list them.

If not, there’s plenty of empty space on the Queue page. on the left-side beneath the artwork, it would be nice to have the credits listed there. BTW, the album should be named there as well, in  case it’s a playlist of many artists/albums.
