Why can't Deezer just play the song from the artist I searched for?

Ooops sorry for the late reply!

Yes @dee_dirk is right as usual, you are not playing the tracks you are playing a mix inspired by the tracks.

It is not something that is being discussed internally, but I will keep an eye on how many people bring this up and if it is a significant number I’ll escalate it!

If its not being discussed, it should be. If you click the play button on an artist, you expect to hear that artist’s songs, not some random mix with a bunch of other artists thrown in. It is really frustrating.

I left Spotify for Deezer because I felt Spotify doesn’t listen to their customers, I’m starting to feel like Deezer is the same. My biggest and almost only bug bear with Spotify is that they cannot play a playlist in random mode without repeating the same few songs over and over.

My biggest frustrations with Deezer:

  • 7 years later, still no gapless playback - try listening to a Dark Side of the Moon without gapless, or a live album or a classic concert. You would not enjoy the breaks on the music. Yes, there is a workaround of using a web browser - but that is a workaround, not how it should work.
  • 2 years later, on this particular issue, and still no resolution. Click on play on an artist’s picture get a bunch of songs that have nothing to do with that artist.
  • There is still a 3 device limit - why? I can only play on one device at a time anyway. Let me see: I have a PC, a Laptop, a Phone, a Hi-Fi, multiple TVs, a tablet, a car - oh wait. I broke the device limit a few devices ago.😵 No, I don’t want to have to keep managing devices. No, I don’t want to always have to consider if I allocate a particular device to Deezer or not - I should be able to play Deezer on all the devices I want, without having to mess about with anything. I pay for the service, and I can only play on one device at a time. There shouldn’t be a restriction on the number of devices, its not like I can share my account with someone else, if they started playing, I wouldn’t be able to. If the restriction can’t be lifted, 3 devices is ridiculously low.
  • Handover between devices is iffy at best. When it works - which is not always - it doesn’t pick the track that was playing on the previous device from where it was, it starts again. Particularly frustrating if listening to a podcast. This is something that Spotify does exceedingly well. It has done it for many years, surely Deezer should be able to do it too?
  • When I choose “don’t play this artist”, I mean don’t play it for me anywhere. Not on recommendations, not on recommended playlists, or anything else.
  • Flow. Great idea, but why does it keep choosing artists I never heard off? Why a bias towards non-mainstream artists? Is it cheaper for Deezer?

Hey everyone, thanks for your feedback. Sorry if we didn't live up to your expectations.
Just so you know, our developers deal with a ton of requests every day, so it's tough to address them all. There are also various reasons why certain features can be tricky to implement, like:

-Compatibility problems with different devices.
-Legal and licensing restrictions we have to follow.
-Technical challenges that require a lot of time for development and testing.

We really appreciate your understanding and patience as we work hard to improve our app Deezer.

Surely it is more technically challenging to generate a mix with random artists that an algorithm identifies as similar to the Artist you want to play then to just play the artist you searched for?

If I open the artist’s page, and play their top tracks, it plays only that Artist. Surely, clicking Play on the artist’s picture should do the same?

Or the “Legal and licensing restrictions we have to follow” mean you have to play other artists?

Deezer is very good at many things, it is frustrating that certain features are just not there. I does make me consider returning to another provider. How many years does Deezer need to fix things like gapless play?

Apologies of going on a rant about other issues, rather than the topic at hand, but I’m very frustrated with Deezer.  Made all the more frustrating because I do like most of what Deezer does and I don’t want to leave for some other service - meaning that if I stay, I will have to live with all the issues I listed for the foreseeable future, as Deezer doesn’t seem willing or able to fix them. All the things I mentioned have been mentioned multiple times before on the Deezer forums, and none of them are fixed.

I understand that Deezer can’t please everyone, or make every change, but you do have a very frustrated customer in me.
