Why can't Deezer just play the song from the artist I searched for?

I’m using the Deezer web version on Chrome/Mac.

  1. I search for the Artist I want to listen to
  2. I click on Tracks
  3. I click on a track to play

Expected: play the track that I selected, then play the next track from the list of songs from the same artists.

Actual: play the track that I selected, then play some random algorithmic selected song that I don’t want.

Solution: Either play the one song I selected and stop or play the next song in the list of songs from that artist.

For example:

I search for Fleetwood Mac and click ‘Tracks’. I select a track I want to listen to ‘Little lies’, note how the next track in the list of songs is ‘Big love’.

The track plays and the queue shows the 1 song ‘Little lies’. When the song is finished a completely random song (addicted to love - robert palmer) starts playing and appears in the queue.

I never selected ‘addicted to love’ and it only shows after the selected song is finished. Where is the ‘don’t automix’ button?

I expect:

  • Deezer stops playing after the first song finished
  • Deezer plays the next song in the list of songs from the artists (in the example above this would be ‘big love’
  • A very clear UI element that allows me to stop automatic suggestions

Deezer thinks I want:

  • A completely random and unrelated song to start playing.

If I want to auto mix or auto play random songs let me initiate that instead of making it default without a button to disable it. Also make it easier to play songs from a single artists instead of requiring to create a playlist, manually fill the queue or select a specific album.

Hey @why123321

In the search you start a mix with a track. This behavior is relatively new. I've often read from users that they don't like it that much. :expressionless:

If you start the mix on an artist's page, other artists will also come up, although you might expect only tracks from the desired artist to come up. :expressionless:

Only when you start the music within the 'Top Tracks' of an artist, the other top titles of this one artist are also played. :smirk:

Maybe @Yula can write something about whether the topic is already being discussed internally or not.

Since this seems to be related to my issue, although on many artists, I cannot get even one song to play, this is HORRIBLE and should be changed immediately. There are ways I can start a mix and if that is what I wanted to do, I would do that. This is annoying enough to make me change subscriptions.

The lack of such a critical feature, has probably cost them an unmeasurable amount of subscriptions already. People don’t complain about fundamentally missing issues, they just switch to something that supports what they need.

Same feels. This behavior is nonsense. I’ve searched for tracks from my favorites to listen tracks that were found, that what I want and what were obvious by my previous actions. Why the “mix” started instead of just playing tracks that I see on the screen? How to disable “mix” at all? I don’t need any actions out of my control and that started without my direct instructions.

I’d also like an option to disable MIX completely, I hate it with a passion.

Well, I've been planning an upgrade to the Premium account, hoping to avoid this "feature", but if it's really supposed to be intended behaviour…

Hey all, I understand your frustration,

I also would prefer to at least have an option to choose between an artist mis or just a mix of the artist’s track.

I see more and more of you are bringing this up.

This also annoys me a lot.

Whenever there is a list of tracks displayed and I click on one of them, the default behavior should be going through the list.

It works for album pages and it works for the "Top Tracks" of an artist. The same logic should be applied to search results and other lists of tracks.

The option to choose between two random mixes would not solve the problem. Randomness and algorithms have their place. Just let me decide when to use them.

See this new idea where I also listed some related threads:

While searching for related ideas, I noticed that the forum software cannot choose the Ideas category for exclusive searches anymore.

Has anyone encountered this issue/feature/annoyance on Android? It appears to be only happening on iOS and desktop browsers...

I tried Deezer and gave them a chance but they just don’t listen to the community. If you don’t want to implement this much more logical behaviour at least explain why Deezer thinks it’s better.

But not Deezer, they just say ‘whatever we don’t listen and do our own thing’.

Unfortunately that’s back to Spotify for me.
