Hi all,

We wish to collect some of your feedback on Flow, that's why we are opening a new dedicated thread for you to share your feelings on this feature.

Do you like it? Why? What do you think we are missing?

Please be as detailed as you can in your comments, cheers!

Flow is awesome. Back skip/repeat would be fantastic.

Flow сломан , рекомендации плохие и включает артистов и близко не похожих на которых подписан

Hi @Rodymar thanks for your feedback.

Some user already shared the same experience that you described and our teams are working to improve Flow around your feedback.

Our teams have done a lot of research around it, we had a testing group here in the community about it.

There have been improvement and Flow should not repeat as much as it used to. If it still does I would recommend feeding your algorithm more, listening to albums and playlists you like,

adding songs to your favourites and more artists too.

When the Flow or track Mix starts repeating itself, have you tried clicking on the angry face and using the directions there?
That will help too!

More improvement around Flow are coming very soon!

Also there is this very interesting article that help understand Flow and track Mixes more:

I've been using Deezer since they introduced the new Flow wheel, but I'm having a little issue. You see, I love listening to different genres, but it seems like none of them are showing up in the new genre flow wheel. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do about this?

Hi @Mr. Jahrami, thank you for reaching out.

I tested on my phone, and the genre flow wheel appears for me, working well.

It seems this issue might be related to your device, so I'd like to suggest the following steps:

  1. If you are using the battery saving mode on your device, turn it off while performing this test.
  2. Open the Deezer app ➡️ Gearwheel in the top right corner ➡️ Data and storage ➡️ Clear all.
  3. Stay on the Data and storage page, and under Smart Cache, slide the marker to the left until it reaches 32MB, then slide it to the right until it reaches 2GB (you can move it up to 10GB if your device has that much storage).
  4. Tap again on the Gearwheel in the top right corner ➡️ Log out at the bottom of the page.
  5. Turn off your device for a few seconds, then turn it back on.
  6. Log in to Deezer with your email and password.
  7. Stream a few songs and navigate in the app.

Additionally, if you could provide a screenshot of the Deezer app with the option "Data and storage" and record a video showing the step-by-step process you're following, it would be very helpful in understanding the problem

I’m a recent (and enthusiastic) Spotify refugee. The thing about Spotify I miss most is the new music suggestions via the Discover Weekly feature and Flow is a close a replacement as I’ve found on Deezer.

It would be good to be able to point Flow at a Playlist and say more of that, please. Far too much One Direction on my Flow. That’s my daughter’s fault (yes, we’re considering Family).

Please make the playback controls act like every other music player, ever. I.e. ‘Back' to rewind a track, not skip a track backwards. Or at least give us an option for it to work like this. The way it works now is just odd.

It would also be nice to see a few tracks ahead.

Thanks. Loving Deezer so far!

Thanks for your feedback @Sindigo :) it will help us to keep improving this feature

The equivalents to Spotify’s Discover Weekly and Release Radar are these Deezer playlists:

https://www.deezer.com/smarttracklist/discovery

https://www.deezer.com/smarttracklist/new-releases

To skip back or forward within a track you can click on the progress bar at the bottom of the player in the web player and desktop app, should also work in the mobile apps.

hi bluezzbastardzz - thanks for this. Much appreciated. Will experiment with those playlists, though they’re the German language versions (my German’s bit limited, lol). Will try and find the UK ones. Putting US, rather than DE in the link seems to work.

Clicking on the progress bar works fine but the way Deezer playback controls work breaks the controls on headphones or media keyboards. I usually listen when I’m out running or working with a keyboard with media controls and occasionally when I’m learning something on guitar. Having to skip back then forward makes no sense if you just want to replay a track when every other player there is works differently and has done for what, 20 years now?

I have removed the German localisation from the URL, should also work in the UK now, I think.

I’m not sure about the ”every other player” part, at least for streaming sites. Deezer has media controls with keyboard shortcuts as well if you press H while being in the web player. Then you will see an overview of possible commands, sorry for being in German again:

Ctrl -> and Ctrl ← should do what you want.

Hi - thanks. No problem about it being in German - I appreciate the chance to practice! 😁

Good to know there are keyboard shortcuts to do the things I want to do but still not sure why Deezer doesn’t work the same way as otehr players - Spotify, iTunes, even Windows Media Player, if you press skip back on the media controls on your keyboard, laptop, headphones, etc, it goes back to the beginning of the track, not the previous track. I don’t know of any other media player that does this, it should at least be an option in settings. Unless it is already and I’ve missed it, of course. 😂 If I’m out for a run, I can’t hit Ctrl+anything.

Due to Spotify’s censorship, I switched from Spotify to Deezer three years ago, and I’ve been very happy and much prefer Deezer. I bought premium to support Deezer.

I am a data scientist who has built and deployed a recommendation system, and I’ve played with doing music recommendations, plus my music knowledge is deep, and I have to say the recommendation engine of Deezer is extremely impressive. The recommendations for the Daily Playlists and Flow are amazing. (The Discovery Playlist needs some help.)

Three years ago Flow was not usable due to excessive repeats, probably made worse by my desire to use only Flow (except for New Releases and Discovery). So I gave up on using Flow for a long time. However, now Flow doesn’t repeat much, so I can use Flow and I really like it.

I normally have Flow set to “more discoveries” on mobile. Does this setting carry over to web (PC), where I see no option to change it? I get the impression it does. You should add that option on web; the setting could be on Flow (next to Moods) or it could be in the main settings, I suggest like so:

Suggested web settings changes

Do you have an algorithm that reorders the tracks to really make them flow, transitioning between similar genres rather than jumping between very dissimilar genres, and perhaps matching the tempos, rhythm, and even instruments? Consider doing this if you don’t and improve it if you do.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about with regards to smooth transitions, try this playlist of mine: https://deezer.page.link/z9SdZoXenjC4RS5C9. It’s hand-ordered but from randomly sampled tracks, so making it “flow” is a post-processing step. See how the reverb-y chiming guitars of the second song echo those of the first and the tempo of both is slow? Observe how we then “surf” from artsy indie pop to electronic indie to electronic industrial to post-punk/punk/garage to synth pop to electro to dark disco. Most of all, note how it makes you feel.

you have only made flow worse. I've cancelled my subscription because you refuse to do anything about it. i don't think you really understand why or what flow needs to be. make it play other genres i want it to be something that gives me new music i hate when its the same THE SAME songs over and over and over you don't get it at all. its the same songs i have heard A MILLION TIMES TOO MANY TIMES SO MANY TIMES I DON'T WANT TO HEAR MUSIC I LIKE ANYMORE it needs to play a variety of music it needs to be smarter just take it back to what it was before and then NEVER touch flow again. at one time it played new music only good songs and it had a variety of songs to play now its the same crap i have listened to way too much and the only options are either never the one song or never the one band like i still might want them i just want flow to get out of this music rut I DON'T WANT or WANT FLOW to do. Nothing you guys suggest does anything to change it and if it would just go back to what is was doing in December i would still be with deezer.

Hi @gutsman52, have you tried using the Flow option to discover more new music and less favorites?

Simply tap the angry face while playing the Flow and then select "More Discoveries."

I have recently found that flow has become fixated on Post Rock

I have some Post Rock tracks favourited but they are by far in the minority

No amount of track skipping will break this fixation and I am obliged to search for a playlist of shuffle my favourites instead

Not happy!!!

Hi @Steve.Cullum, thank you for your message.

I wanted to inform you that I have already replied to your question in the other post.

I’m just going to add another voice to the idea that it would be a very useful feature to be able to queue songs to Flow and Mixes.  Oftentimes, when discovering new music, it is completely reasonable to want to queue more songs from an artist that just came on on Flow or a Mix.  Having to break out of the Flow just to listen to a few more songs is a bad UX, and would be fixed by just allowing users to add to the queue of Flow or the Mix.  This is a bad design choice that is preventing me (and I suspect other users) from doing deeper dives on new artists because we can only listen to the one song provided by Flow.

I don’t know why you keep refusing to add this feature as I have now seen multiple threads asking for it because it would be a very useful feature, and completely ignorable by people that don’t want to queue songs when using Flow.  Sometimes users know what they are talking about.

i have been a deezer user since its inception over a decade ago and i love it, it is my only streaming service even though i have others.

Flow however i think is a great idea, but there are too many repeats, i have only been listening to one flow today and already i have had about 20 repeats.

I listen to deezer to avoid repeats, flow should not repeat in the same day!

@oilwarzonedotcom thanks for your support all these years.
I think it is a very good idea to not repeat songs in Flow in the same day and I’ll definitely pass the feedback.

I know they testing a flow 2.0 back when i was a volunteer tester did that ever roll out officially?

@MJmusicguy There have been improvements after that test and our devs are constantly working on a better user experience when it comes to Flow.
All feedback is very much appreciated.
Thanks

@Jaime.Deezer  wondering if we can actually out in a true generative AI?
