[FEEDBACK] What do you think of "Flow"?

I’m a recent (and enthusiastic) Spotify refugee. The thing about Spotify I miss most is the new music suggestions via the Discover Weekly feature and Flow is a close a replacement as I’ve found on Deezer.

It would be good to be able to point Flow at a Playlist and say more of that, please. Far too much One Direction on my Flow. That’s my daughter’s fault (yes, we’re considering Family).

Please make the playback controls act like every other music player, ever. I.e. ‘Back' to rewind a track, not skip a track backwards. Or at least give us an option for it to work like this. The way it works now is just odd.

It would also be nice to see a few tracks ahead.

Thanks. Loving Deezer so far!

I have looked through a lot of topics, and still there seems to be no solution.
Started using Deezer for about a month now. Flow seemed nice but as a lot of people pointed out, it playes the same songs by an artist way too often.

I have favored a lot of albums by Prince and a lot of different songs. Still almost everytime when a song by Prince is played with flow, it is Purple Rain.

Also it seems somebody at Deezer really likes Liverpool Express with ''you are my love'' a lot, because it came on everytime i used flow, it is a nice song but not a favorite song or band of mine and i had to block it, altough hearing it once a month would be nice, not every day

I dont know what has been happening but Flow has been amazing over the last week. I’ve noticed a lot more song and album variety from my bands. The songs that play all the time are now down by about 10x. Literally upgraded to Hi-Fi plan and looking forward to the continued improvements :)

Due to Spotify’s censorship, I switched from Spotify to Deezer three years ago, and I’ve been very happy and much prefer Deezer. I bought premium to support Deezer.

I am a data scientist who has built and deployed a recommendation system, and I’ve played with doing music recommendations, plus my music knowledge is deep, and I have to say the recommendation engine of Deezer is extremely impressive. The recommendations for the Daily Playlists and Flow are amazing. (The Discovery Playlist needs some help.)

Three years ago Flow was not usable due to excessive repeats, probably made worse by my desire to use only Flow (except for New Releases and Discovery). So I gave up on using Flow for a long time. However, now Flow doesn’t repeat much, so I can use Flow and I really like it.

I normally have Flow set to “more discoveries” on mobile. Does this setting carry over to web (PC), where I see no option to change it? I get the impression it does. You should add that option on web; the setting could be on Flow (next to Moods) or it could be in the main settings, I suggest like so:

Suggested web settings changes

Do you have an algorithm that reorders the tracks to really make them flow, transitioning between similar genres rather than jumping between very dissimilar genres, and perhaps matching the tempos, rhythm, and even instruments? Consider doing this if you don’t and improve it if you do.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about with regards to smooth transitions, try this playlist of mine: https://deezer.page.link/z9SdZoXenjC4RS5C9. It’s hand-ordered but from randomly sampled tracks, so making it “flow” is a post-processing step. See how the reverb-y chiming guitars of the second song echo those of the first and the tempo of both is slow? Observe how we then “surf” from artsy indie pop to electronic indie to electronic industrial to post-punk/punk/garage to synth pop to electro to dark disco. Most of all, note how it makes you feel.

I would like the ability to add songs to the queue/play next while listening to Flow. For example I come across a new artist I like, and I want to listen to a couple more of their songs without leaving Flow.

whatever you've been doing to flow as ruined it for me. it no longer plays a variety of music just plays the same crap I've listened to already. liking or unliking favoriting stuff doesn't change this era of music it's stuck in no matter what I do it doesn't play what it's been playing what just feels like last week or so. flow is unlistenable every song is something I've heard or pulled from the same era with no variation undo whatever you have been doing to it.

This is why there is Bluetooth headphones on the market.

You do not need to go ANYWHERE to skip.

I’m not buying lossy headphones for general use, and don’t like the idea of having to charge one more device. Plus I don’t actually need to go to the PC to skip tracks - I have a media remote. It’s still an unneeded distraction, and skipping tracks disrupts the flow - it’s not the experience I want when the music is meant for atmosphere. But I do need to go to the PC to check and manage the tracks.

And I actually don’t have issues with Flow. I also like daily mixes, like I already said. I did find “mixes for you” rather lacking. Maybe that’s why they’re pretty much hidden. :grinning: But, again, my point is that I don’t want a lot of discovery in Flow, not that I don’t get it. I want discovery when I’m in the mood for it, and within specific genres, not all over the place.

It seems like Flow takes my playlists into consideration. I would like to mention that I sometimes build playlists for other people, mix tape style, and that those playlists do not reflect my personal tastes. Best example I can think of would be the playlists my wife and I create for my 7 year old son. I also built a playlist of 80's music for a themed party. I tend to avoid Flow.

Flow have some issues with picking music from the likes playlist.

I notice a lot when I listen to music that flow playing the same song from a album that isn't from the artist.

For example I liked a song from this album from the weekend:

I get the same song from a "collectors" album like this:

This happening a lot in the flow radio station.

It looks like Flow understand that I liked a song from the weekend  ( for example: Alone Again )  but don't playing the song from the album what is in my library or liked playlist.

What I also notice is that sometimes flow playing the same song from the artist that I liked.  But then I get on the flow radio the non expliciet version.  And not the expliciet version I liked and added to my library.

I hope this can be changed because this is really confusing. And gives a lot double versions in my library from 1 song.

Hi @Geolog Flow Genres for Android will be release during July, so stay tuned and let us know later if you got any improvements.

Sometimes I listen to Flow and get in an awkward situation when your favorite  song plays… but it doesn’t have that red heart.

So I tap the heart and now I have two similar songs in my favorites - One from a clean version of an album and the other one is from an explicit one. So I think it would be cool if Deezer could track if I already liked a certain song and do not recommend me the same song from a different album.
Similar situation. I liked some disco song (let’s say Donna Summer’s song). But then Flow gives me the same song but from “best of 70s” compilation. Don’t like that.

2 Things I’d like to see in Flow (this is for desktop version):

  1. Auto scroll to bottom when next song is playing.
  2. A switch that would make it so that flow only suggested new songs - prevent it from suggesting songs that were already played.

  1. Please, stop pushing lame compilation albums like “30 hits of summer 2006” or greatest hits albums. I want to know the artist’s catalog in the context of their albums. I bet that every other of us who (still) use the social network in a comma Last.fm still care for the tags they play and hate to see those greatest hit albums among our scrobbles.

About this, would be great if we could dislike an album on flow or on queue list.

Flow Moods are here. Please check the article our Global Deezer Legend @dee_dirk wrote for us and let us know what you think:

I sometimes have the phenomenon that titles repeat themselves. Always following the same pattern:
7 tracks
3 tracks
7 tracks from just now in exactly the same order

is that crazy or magical?
Anyway, I love my flow. :sunglasses::heart_eyes:

As discussed here it seems like Flow is generally “broken”. It favors the users’ favorites “maxed out”, so that one has to listen to the same songs over-and-over again with virtually no change in the playlist whatsoever. Also, it seems to ignore “I don’t like this style of music” tendencies or “don’t suggest this song” anyway.

I loved Flow-like features on other services, but I don’t use Flow on Deezer any longer as it doesn’t provide me with any variety, it’s more like one of those advertisement-financed radio stations that play the same 12 songs exclusively all through the day.

Enough of the rambling, since so many users are happy with their Flow experience, I assume the function is either broken for SOME or some software change recently has made it collapse on itself. Hoping for better times.

I agree that it plays favorited songs way too much. Regarding new/discovery music, it also plays the same ones of those over and over. I really wish it would play way more non-favorited songs from favorited artists. What’s the point in even choosing favorite artists if they are never played in Flow?

When I am using flow and if I click on the Don't recommend this track link, and if I restart the app/client, or if I come the next day, I find the same track in my queue. I cannot figure out whats the purpose of this feature if the song that I do not want to hear again is queued.

Deezer needs to work on the logic using which Flow queues up songs based on the users taste, since I have been hearing the same old favourite without any change. Songs are queued up even though I click on not to recommend the songs anymore. I had read the webpage on the logic Flow queues up songs, but I do not understand how repeating the same songs that a user has requested not to queue, help out.

I have tried all possible tips given under the FAQ and the bug still persists.

Flow was perfect a while ago. Used to love the way it sorted out songs and gave me recommendations according to my taste. This was until the last few months Flow totally changed its logic on giving recommendations.

I am almost on the verge of cancelling my membership with Deezer due to this flaw

Lately (since start 2022) Flow is sh*t.

I listen mostly to rock/metal, also in my own language (dutch)

But now flow is giving Folk singers, Apres ski music, rappers and even childrens songs just because “they are Dutch”.

I have been clicking on “do not recommend artist” about 2 times a day for a month now.

Hello!
I read almost all reviews about flow before writing my own.

It seems to me that many questions will be removed if there is an opportunity to indicate what percentage of new tracks will be offered.

The second wish is to exclude duplicate tracks from the sentences that are already marked as favorite. Many artists have the same song repeated in different albums, and I can mark it again as my favorite one and get several identical songs on my list, but it is limited.

And the question is - what is the reason for limiting 2000 favorite tracks? Can this amount be increased?

And in conclusion, I really want to thank you for the service itself, I really like it. And especially the fact that he lives and is constantly improving thanks to such feedback. Thank!

Flow is working great but that damn 2000likes limit is a big... No.... a very big bummer. That makes flow on a later point useless because the recommendations that flow give I can't like anymore and add it to a playlist isn't a good fix. Please. When get this limit chanced? I see this argument already for years. But the only reaction we get is. Maybe in future it chanced.

How long can you say that before the team make a step in the right direction and turn that limit up.

Deezer is a good service flow is fantastic. But that limit is outdated.

Another situation arises when listening to the flow in the car, when there is no way to mark the track like or dislike. In this case, I suggest using the self-learning function. To do this, you will need to make another list - candidates for exclusion from the recommendations. The order is as follows: if a track is fast-forwarded without listening to the end, it is placed on the list of candidates for exclusion. If the next time he was listened to the end, then he disappears from this list, and if he was not listened again, he goes to the list of tracks excluded from the recommendations.
Of course, apply this approach only to new tracks that are not yet in the user's playlists.

I was also at first disappointed with the recommendations, but you need to learn Flow.  Play play play, everything you love and give hearts to your favorite songs and playlists and albums, add as many of your favorite artists and play play play and ban artists you don't like and Flow will soon catch your note.  I am very satisfied.  But you have to make friends and devote time to it.

Yes, indeed. Let it learn.

On first day lame, now it is much better than Google’s Feeling lucky which was okay, but always played same favourites over and over and over again. On Deezer I hear new tracks, new favorites, old classics over and over and over again. Today I paid ONE YEAR in advance for this great service.

Pay 10 months and get 12 months is their annual discount. I paid years for Spottily and then GPM receiving no discounts for loyalty. This is my new home for hard dance music since 29.06.20.

They gave me option to keep 2 months I already had trial. They suggested next time I need to cancel with them, go free, and buy annual again with discounted prices unless they give better ways.

I like flow, I like mixes, this service is good bargain at 99,90 a year for this amazing quality.

It works like a charm when something is great.

This is great, worth to pay.

It’s werid, why do live albums, that have to be listened in a proper order, come up in Flow?

Listening the third part of Keith Jarrett live in Koln makes no sense…

I guess I won’t use it anymore.

You can ban that track and it hopefully won’t be recommended again.

Thanks for the details@Razorblade. Could you please try the search just for a comparison? Our updates normally address different parts of the app.

@Rudi

So far this didn’t happen again - I tried several times.

But I see that others are also complaining about Flow being quite repetitive and that there are songs in Flow from different genres that have nothing to do with ones music taste.

I have a post above lamenting about playing too much country music with no data to support this in my listening habits or profile. Today I fire up Flow, the first seventeen songs are, you guessed it - country.

I can’t fight it anymore. I’m looking into refund policy and will see you all on Tidal.

Flow on!
