Our Desktop/Web app can improve, and we need your help :desktop:

This is the topic dedicated to all problems you may face when using our desktop and web apps, big or small.

What should I post here?

  • if the app is acting in an unusual way, when you click on the menus and buttons, for example
  • if the player is displaying error messages, or if the playback is interrupted, let us know
  • if you're unable to login, or if the app kicks you out, we need to be aware too
  • if it simply crashes on you, when you connect or not to a device, it's better to leave a comment
  • if you have tips or workarounds to share, they'll be very welcome too

This topic is intended for version 4.20.0 and above, and for our browser version of Deezer :floppy_disk:

Hey @tyllerj we spotted that happening on one of our recent versions, so could you please confirm if you have 4.33.1 or below?

Sorry you feel that way @Ralfito but please refrain from swearing in the community. I encourage you to contact our support team to discuss your refund concerns:

Yes, mine is 4.33.1 indeed

Saw some posts about this issue an year ago. Apparently the bug hasn’t been completely fixed.

I’ve tried uninstalling and clearing all the files, but shortly after re-installing the bug keeps happening again.

It’s really hard to use the app like this.

Hey there,

I use the macOS use daily, and once in a while the app decides to log me out. This is very annoying, and has been happened about once a day in the past weeks.

I expected the app to keep me logged in basically forever.

Hey @Dcsalomao

You're right, but it was fixed. It just came back. Rest assured, we're working on separate major updates for our desktop app which will solve a lot of problems. We just need you to bear with us a bit longer! This thread here should keep you updated too, so I've moved your reply.

Thanks for coming back @tyllerj I'll pass the confirmation on to our devs!

Hey @andreynering try uninstalling the app, restarting your Mac, and reinstalling it after downloading the app again. Let me know if it helps!

I have two issues that are getting quite annoying. I’m using the desktop app with a paid subscription on a high spec desktop pc (no power saving settings) with good internet speed (40-80 down, 15-25 up).

  1. Whenever I choose play on a new song it starts playing straight away and then just after it starts it pauses for a second before it carries on. It doesn’t do this when auto playing the next song on a playlist. Why does it do this? How do I get rid of this “feature”?
  2. Much more annoying though is the player freezing at random times. Sometimes it will start back up again after a while, sometimes it doesn’t (or I ran out of patience and restarted it). I’ve uninstalled and re-installed the app but it still does it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Bug on Mac desktop app v4.33.1.23:

  1. Go to "Playlists"
  2. Scroll down a bit
  3. Open any playlist
  4. Click the "Back" button
  5. The screen scrolls a bit, but we're not back to the list of playlists; sometimes if we click "Back" enough times we are brought to the page we were before doing step 1

It doesn't happen EVERY time, but repeating the process a few times is usually enough.

Thanks a lot for reporting this @tyllerj I've passed it on. 4.34 is being rolled out too, would love if you could check that out for us :relaxed:

Hey @Eezer sorry about that. Are you referring to the gap between tracks? We're still developing gapless for our desktop app. About the other point, could you please tell me your OS and app versions?

Hey @Eezer sorry about that. Are you referring to the gap between tracks? We're still developing gapless for our desktop app. About the other point, could you please tell me your OS and app versions?

As I described, this is a brief pause after the track has started playing (like a buffer pause).

I’m using Win10 and v4.33.1

As I was typing the above Deezer has frozen again after playing 1 track from a playlist. The little graphic equaliser gif/graphic next to the track name is still moving, but the track timer isn’t counting and there is no sound. After clicking on the pause/play button once to pause, the button has become unresponsive. And after about 30-60 seconds it has started playing again without me clicking on anything for at least 15 seconds…

Update: 5th song into the same playlist, played for about 3 seconds, then paused for about 5, and now playing again...

Deezer 4.33.1 still crashing after random songs.

Today for the first time I'm using Deezer without internet. I wanna listen my downloaded playlists but it's so annoying when every song is loading for 5 seconds... Even my own mp3, what the hell?

I hope that big improvements on desktop app will be soon.

Hi there @Eezer

Sorry about that. Could you please try uninstalling the app, and searching for %appdata and deleting any Deezer folder you can find. Restart your computer and then redownload the app, reinstalling it :thumbsup_tone2:

Thanks for reporting it @JohnyV3 we're working on it!

After using Deezer for Windows app for one day I see three recurring bugs:

App consistently crashes after few hours of playback.

Excessive memory consumption. 1GB for a simplistic music player is too much.

Navigation in app more often doesn’t work than it does. This includes the back / forward buttons and links to artist, title, etc. Often a link does nothing. Usually after following a link the back button don’t work when I want to go back to previous view, when it does work, the forward button breaks and so on.

Observation / feature request. Clearly, there is a sync between webpage and the PC app, because the browser shows what the app is playing. Let the user control the currently playing device from his phone app or browser like Spotify does it.

About the memory usage.

I've observed, that after listening for a while or skipping tracks, the memory usage goes up to 3GB, after that it writes all that to the blob_data folder in AppData. When this happens windows defender decides to quickly scan those new files, rendering the system unresponsive due to 100% cpu usage. After that deezer app memory usage returns to normal levels, but the cycle continues. I had to add the deezer appdata folder to the defender exclusions, so the scan doesnt happen, because i cant use my computer at all at that time.

This has to be fixed.

This bug is present on the Browser app for deezer.

Reproduced with chrome.

Repro steps:

  1. Search for (including quotes)
    "man human"
    in the search bar
  2. Click the artist of the first result (Denki Groove)
  3. Click on the “Top Tracks” tab
  4. Attempt to go back

Expected:

Can go back

Actual:

History changes (location bar and window.history) but page stays.

Hi there @snaut @co5oos

Thank you for your feedback. We agree, 100%.

Memory usage will indeed improve in the next updated versions of the app, so hang in there!

And @snaut, we're already developing such a feature, register your support by voting here:

Great job reporting this to us with the steps to reproduce the issue @TooManyLimes superb!

Navigation on deezer.com is often broken. When I click < Back in the browser, the page doesn’t go anywhere, it remains where I am (but the URL changes).

If I refresh (F5) the page loads according to URL, but there is a glitch: it always asks “Reload site? Changes you made may not be saved.”.

Please remove this popup. There is no change I made… The site does not reload until the ok button is clicked. The popup is modal, nothing can be done until it’s closed.

Thank you!

Browser: Microsoft edge, in Windows 10. Obviously everything the latest version since updates are forced, not optional.

PS: I’m not interested in the Deezer app. The browser version is much more flexible since it can be searched with Ctrl-F.

  1. Yes, having the same issue on Mac with 4.34.0.32. But the back and forward buttons don’t seem to work properly anywhere. In artists it is broken as well. Click on an artist. Then I tried to go back to the artist overview. Nothing happens. If I click multiple times - nothing, too.
    Same for the Podcasts...
  2. Also if I want to sort an existing playlist by “Added on” I sometimes have to click twice and sometimes a single click (as I would expect) is enough. All other sorting options (titel, duration, artist, album) work fine always with just one click.
  3. If I am adding a new mix at the “Mix”-Tab by clicking the “heart-button” it isn’t showing right up. I have to click another Tab to see the change. That seems to be very confusing to me.

Thanks for the feedback and for your patience @Jack Aubrey @icefront

We'll be paying close attention to your comments because we're constantly working on improving the web and desktop apps :thumbsup_tone2:

I’ve seen many topics opened on this but this issue remains unresolved as of the newest version (I’m on Mac). This issue has been around for several years now, how hard is it to create a functional back button? Navigating or exploring music over Deezer is the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had with an audio streaming service.

Is there any solution for the “An error occurred, please try again later” issue on win 10?

As of late I can’t open 4 singer/playlist pages in a row without getting that error. What’s worse is the constant stutter in some songs despite having a good internet connection (200mbps wired).

Used to relaunch the app when getting the problem, but as of late this is not working anymore. Is there any solution for that? I feel like lately I’m spending way too much time trying to troubleshoot deezer.

I know that the obvious solution is to look for another service. However, unfortunately in my area deezer is the only option that provide hifi songs. Hopefully Spotify won’t be taking so long before launching their Hifi plan.

Hey @Senny600

Thanks for the feedback. The short answer is yes, so please do keep your app updated. Version 5.0 is coming soon @Frogpuppy, and we'll also have specific error messages so that we know exactly how to help you :relaxed:

Thanks for letting us know about this lyrics issue @mariarca ascione can you try delete your app's cache, restarting your computer and checking the same tracks? That way we can be sure if it's a problem with the app or the tracks in question :thumbsup_tone2:

I’m using a macbook with Big Sur 11.3. And of course the latest Deezer desktop app.

Problem:

Go to album or artist page or playlist page, then click the top left “Back” button, it does nothing. It does not go back but simply reset the position to the top of the current page.

If I want to escape, I have to click on other tabs.

I am aware that this issue was “supposed” to be fixed a year ago, but apparently it’s back. I can send the devs a recording if they want. I just want it to be fixed.
