Japanese language search is broken in Android in at least two ways:
- You cannot type in Kanji (the Chinese characters), you can only type in hiragana (a phonetic alphabet). Normally using Gboard (the default android keyboard) you type something in phonetically in hiragana and Gboard presents options to change this word to Kanji but this is not happening with Deezer. Also, sometimes you need to add “voicing marks” to hiragana which would for example change a “ha” sound to a “pa” sound. This is also broken. Basically it looks like Deezer is processing each character as soon as it's entered, taking control away from Gboard before the user can finish entering the word.
- Search will not find a Japanese artist if you search for their name in Japanese. Even if you type an artist's name in a separate app to write out the kanji to get around issue #1 and copy and paste into Deezer it will not find the artist, even though the artist's name is written in the same Kanji when the app is set to Japanese.
Unfortunately this makes the app basically unusable in Japanese even though the app is available to the Japanese market and can be paid for with Japanese currency.
