Could you at least add all the content on Archive.org.

There is a load of Spacegoat music material that is in the public domain.

As
you say you are a streaming service and for anyone like me with obscure tastes and my own Music really needs something else.  I guess most of your users just like nothing but mainstream music and support no independent musicians.

I should not be wasting my money on a subscription that only offers mainstream music, when I could be spending it on increasing my own collection of other artists for when i move away from streaming as clearly you see yourselves as a pure streaming service not a solution to our listening needs.

The only sensible option for an audio entertainment subscription service is to offer everything, streaming, personal files, podcasts, audiobooks, AI curation and to be able to play any/all a browser, phone or a smart speaker.

That you choose to only be a music subscription service could be folly as there is a big hole in the market.

One day something else will exist and I can move to that,

I am a user, not a Deezer product manager, but a I have been faced with a similar issue with a similar platform and find it extremely frustrating because I have uploaded a lot of 'niche' musique in it and never understood why it wouldn't play in my Chromecast devices.

I transparent way of designing the specs / the UI would be to have (somehow) an error message that explains the licencing issue with Chromecasts (which is extremely hard to understand from a end user perspective, as they don't understand the 'logical' way that Chromecasts broadcast content.

Hey @brucedenney

I totally understand your point. We love niche music and independent musicians here. Have you heard of our UCPS initiative? For more info please see here.

In the meantime, if there's any content you'd like to have on Deezer, check this topic here and post away, I'll pass it on to our catalogue teams:

Hi @slandier I'll forward your feature request to our developers. My educated guess is that it has to do with music licensing!

You miss the point, there will ALWAYS be missing content and there will always be the need for user specific content.

You can try and play catch up by adding more material however, you will NEVER resolve the fundamental issue with that approach.

Sure, I get that point entirely @brucedenney I'm just giving you the current and realistic options to improve the service we provide to you as soon as possible.

Feedback noted!

Is there any update on this? I'm torn between Deezer and YouTube Music. I much prefer to support Deezer, but the ability to include uploaded music is more robust on YouTube Music which helps to fill in the holes in any music collection.

Score another win for YouTube music.  One of the reasons I came to Deezer was for the upload feature which works better than the 1/2 assed Spotify implementation.  I'm sure mp3 uploads are kind of an edge case in terms of usage but I'm still disappointed to discover this limitation

Hi,

i‘m not sure if it‘s a legal restriction or a technical one preventing to cast uploaded mp3s.
First i also thougt it‘s a problem of licences and the reason because casting uploads on other services is possible, because they have a matching function for uploads, so that in the end it‘s not an uploaded file but a matched original server file that is used for casting. And for this file there is a licence. Apple and Google are using such an upload matching and as far as i know Deezer does not use matching.
But i testet on Googles YouTube Music with some personal uploaded files of mine that are not available on Googles catalogue. These files can‘t be found by matching and have been physicaly uploaded. So Google has no licences for these songs if they are‘t in their catalogue.
But also these files can be played by casting without any problem.
This as a fact imho it only can be a technical Problem and not a legal one.

There are definitely tracks on Deezer which are not on Google but that do play when cast. This would not be possible if this content-matching theory was correct.  My understanding of the cast protocol is that when casting is initiated, a URL for the media to be played is sent to the playback device and the device then streams from that URL.  I would not be surprised if this was outside the scope of whatever agreement deezer has with the recording companies that allows them to have an upload feature and copyrighted content.

User-uploaded tracks are clearly handled separately, probably as part of contract compliance, but maybe also for technical reasons.  It’s unfortunate that this leads to inconsistencies depending on how it’s played back. I suspect the amount of engineering required to reach and maintain absolute parity is not worth it for the amount of usage the upload feature gets.

Maybe someday…  It’s too bad tho because I have a lot of music from CDs

Google was just an example of a streaming service using matching for uploads. And Deezer doesn‘t use matching as far as I know. So imo that’s the reason why your own uploaded songs can’t be used for casting. I think it’s an issue of licences… Deezer has no licences for your original uploaded files.

HI all,

I just tried this functionality for the first time today.

Found out that casting does not work, indeed. 😐

But, also Scrobbling to Last.FM does not work with own uploaded MP3s. is this a known bug?

I’m having same problem but with iPhone running latest 17.4 IOS AND latest Deezer app, trying to stream uploaded my MP3 files  to Google home. It used to work but NOW doesn’t. The files just hang or skip to next file in the playlist. Something has changed and broken our ability to stream these files.
Very frustrating and this is going to make me look at alternative streaming services unless it’s fixed!!!
