After the announcement of the new logo and the new identity of Deezer, we took the time to read all your comments and feedback in order to address your concerns and understand your feelings

Opinions are very divided and several details were pointed out, including one that came up quite often: Why did you choose a heart šŸ’œ?
One comment cited ā€œthere is a more distant connection to music compared to the old logoā€

Ā

The beating purple heart simply represents love and passion for music. The shapes of the logo vary to signify musical rhythms. Its movement and pulsing quality directly reflect the essence of music and the human response to the listening experience, much like a heartbeat.
Ā

Another question was ā€œwhy did you decide to change everything/what is the purpose of this new identity?ā€

Deezer helps you ā€œbe and belong,ā€ going beyond streaming to empower fans, artists and partners to express themselves and connect through our products and services.

Refreshing our visual identity is essential as we enter this new era for Deezer. This allows us to connect emotionally with music fans, artists and strategists through visual cues that let people know that with Deezer they can experience music, not just listen to it.
Ā

ā€œThe choice to have prioritised this change was not the best, it would have been good to strengthen the user experience rather than degrade it.ā€

Satisfying our users experience is indeed crucial. Development and modification choices can be complex, which means that the change itself was so significant that some bugs crept in during this transition. All have been flagged by our developers and technicians, who are already fixing these errors.

Ā

The identity change will be present in all future app updates. We hope you will adopt the new design and enjoy the new Deezer experience.

We adopt this new identity with pride, and although not everyone likes it yet, we still hope to find a place in your hearts šŸ’œ.

I was immediately reminded of the old VampireFreaks.com design. Iā€™m not a teenage goth. It looks terrible. I LOVED the rainbow EQ icon. Very disappointed to see the design of Deezer turn into a 20-year-old (now defunct) goth social network.

Ā

you guys are really mad because of a logo? lol

YES! It ruined the look of my phoneā€™s home screen in a really terrible way. It looks AWFUL. The old icon worked with any theme, the purple means I can only use themes (wallpapers, icons) with purple in them to match.

Ā

As someone that does UI/UX for a living Deezer went from the best looking music player in the market to a joke of a design overnight. What is this logo and GUI? It's terrible! You went from sophisticated minimalist to Bubbly Nonsense. So sad! I used to love showing off the app design as an example of what well thought out design looked like. Please go back!

They designed Deezer update.

I think the logo is wrong decision, maybe even app a bit messy, but you should give it time.

I personally trialing Free Deezer now just because of hype here and it works, but I wouldnt pay for it at all.

I just left a review on google for this ā€œdesign studioā€: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Koto/@34.0257674,-118.3911198,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x80c2b9c0cd635559:0xa1bb5bd2810b0c26!8m2!3d34.025763!4d-118.3885449!16s%2Fg%2F11h_clt2l6?entry=ttu

Itā€™s fucking HORRIBLE! Hey, Deezer idiots, stop! We arenā€™t 12 year-old girls! For Godā€™s sake, the world has gone mad.

Seriously, I have not seen design so bad since VampireFreaks.com. Did they hire the team of angsty teens from VampireFreaks as designers?

Ā

I found who Deezer hired to create this terrible design. Everyone should leave them reviews expressing about how much you ā€œlikeā€ their ā€œworkā€ redesigning Deezer.

(this is just one of their many locations)

I just had a meeting at work. Showed everyone the app icon while holding my thumb over Deezer. They all unanimously thought it was a dating app - some (like myself) a dating app for a specific group of people.

Taste is subjective, but the new design is objectively speaking targeting a very narrow demographic, when (I assume) you have such a diverse pool of users. But, maybe Deezer have failing subscriptions and are now looking for a different demographic, alienating their current user base who likesĀ the more neutral, yet beautiful, design.

If you'd just spent millions on a rebrand you'd probably defend it too. They will die on this hill because CEOs fragile ego won't let him admit that this is a disaster šŸ˜†

With the redesign I am now unable to press the buttons to add a playlist or album to my library because of the way it scrolls as the now playing bar covers the buttons on my phone.ā˜¹ļø

This is terrible because any design usually goes through a massive consult. If I did this at work I would have been fired. As it stands it feels it was done by the CEOā€™s mistress and everyone had to accept itĀ

Ā

Ā

Oh dear, what a load of šŸ’©

I don't care Deezer, what I want is to pay to stream music without the corporate branding offending my eyes.

I don't want a quiz, or an 'experience' or to connect emotionally.

Other than Flow, you can keep the rest of theĀ  garbage that you have decided to come up with - stick it all on a different tier of membership and see how many people choose it.

Ā

Yes, this exactly. Who is really going to become a subscriber because of these ridiculous quizzes or other nonsense? I want to listen to music and not much else. Infos like concerts are a nice bonus but not essential.

Yes, the redesign is really bad. I wouldnā€™t have cared if it was only the color, but the logo and layout is just awful. Plus, the shift to ā€œexperiencesā€ completely butchers the UI.

I do not care about quizzes, about moods, or any of that. I want to listen to music (especially albums) and the redesign makes that harder than before.

In the browser, it is even messier.Ā Why the insistence on playlists? I rarely use them and if I did, I would go to Spotify. At least let us choose which content is prominently displayed in the sidebar.

The design studio behind this rebrand is KOTO STUDIO. You can let them know what you think of their work on their socials. Judging by their own website they just love style over matter.Ā

I also liked the old UI much more. It seemed more modern.Ā Favicon was beautiful, now it doesnt even has anything to do with music.

Perhaps there are some technical reasons behind this change.

Still, I would prefer if they hve improved the search functionality which is the weakest part of the app IMHO.

I like music. I love animals and wonderful people. I don't love music, even if it's wonderful, but I like it. Please, change the new logo!

I just wanted to join the voices of disagreement with the new logo. When I saw it I just couldnā€™t believe my eyes, and I was soooo crossed!Ā Everyone else has already said what I also think about the new logo - it looks awful and resembles a dating app logo, I am honestly scared of the moment when my boyfriend spots it on my screen accidentally and will think I have downloaded a dating appā€¦Ā šŸ˜•Ā

I hope our joint voices will be strong enough to make the owners think and maybe change it all back to the original...

I joined this forum onlyĀ to express my view regarding the new design. I literally canā€™t stand it, itā€™s a disaster.Ā  Seriously, Iā€™m considering moving to Spotify now, even a the cost of potential problems with transferring my playlists (and I have loads of them since I usedĀ Deezer premium for many years).

My little kids (yes, so Iā€™m done with dating apps) noticed -- when I was using my phone -- that the previous logo was so much better.Ā

Iā€™ll wait some time, maybe the developers will give us an option to chose a theme or find some similar solution. In case they leave it like this, Iā€™ll be done with Deezer... :-(

Ā

The simple design of Deezer is far better than the busy design from Spotify.

Ah, the good old days where the Deezer UI didnā€™t suck yet.

YES! It ruined the look of my phoneā€™s home screen in a really terrible way. It looks AWFUL. The old icon worked with any theme, the purple means I can only use themes (wallpapers, icons) with purple in them to match.

Like how you imply that your homescreen looked good with those assorted icon shapes and parts of the widget chopped off šŸ˜Š

ā€œDeezer helps you be and belongā€ā€¦ honey, I definitely donā€™t belong in here anymore. I am loathing this heart and canā€™t stand to look at it in my cellphone. I will move out after 15 years of having an account. Does someone know a way to migrate my playlists to somewhere else?

I used soundiiz to start exporting last night for Ā£4.50, though I did so with some sadness.

A complete disasterā€¦ purple heart and purple text!!!

***** irritating!!!

I'm a musician, and this is the logo they use on the creators' panel. They already had a better logo than the original, but instead, they opted for an emoji

Ā

Ā

I think they hired Elon Musk to design this logo. Looks like generic pin art and that is being polite.

They designed Deezer update.

This is not a design job. This is a joke

Ā

@deezer design team, you canĀ change your ā€˜identityā€™ and direction as much as you like but seriously, that newĀ logo is a joke. What was wrong with the old one? It lookedĀ amazing. Like someone actually tried to design something. And it lookedĀ great! It worked. This purple heart justā€¦sucks. There is no other way to put it: it is simply AWFUL! Been with deezer for over five years but this is such a bad moveā€¦
