SABLE, fABLE, the first Bon Iver’s album in six years, is a continuation of its darker companion EP SABLE, and also aligns with Bon Iver albums that came before it, from i,i and 22, A Million all the way back to Bon Iver, Bon Iver and For Emma, Forever Ago 📀📀📀
SABLE, fABLE is structured in two distinct parts:
- SABLE,: A three-track EP reflecting themes of loneliness and introspection, reminiscent of Bon Iver's earlier works like For Emma, Forever Ago.
- fABLE: A feeling of love, adding some pop, soul, R&B, and gospel. This section features collaborations with artists such as Danielle Haim, Dijon, and Flock of Dimes.
Bon Iver released the first single of the new record, “Everything Is Peaceful Love”, on Valentine’s Day.
In “If Only I Could Wait”, Justin teams up with Danielle Haim. The duet with Danielle has been described by Justin as “a bilateral crying question”. Remarking: “How long can the two of us hang on to each other?”
Rough Trade in London held an event in March where Bon Iver was in conversation with Laura Barton. The event included also a special playback of two new songs from SABLE, fABLE.
Fans feared that this could be Justin Vernon's big farewell, but instead his embrace of sunnier climes feels like a new chapter.
Justin Vernon appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week where he explained the title of the new album. During the conversation with Jimmy Fallon, the Bon Iver frontman also talked about his experience by collaborating with Taylor Swift and Charli XCX.
