Never miss out on a song that's caught your ear, meet our SongCatcher! 🎼

SongCatcher listens to the music that is broadcast around you and identifies it.

You can then add the songs directly to your favorites or in your playlist.

Available for every Android user (free, Premium+, HiFi and Family subscribers), our new feature can be found on the search section of your app:

  1. Press the SongCatcher button located just below the search bar
  2. SongCatcher will begin listening to the song to identify it
  3. When it’s successful, it will display the song name and artist to you. You will also have the option to add the song directly to My Music or one of your playlists

What do you need to use SongCatcher?

You'll need at least Android 6.0 and the latest Deezer version (minimum 5.4.12).

SongCatcher is not yet available for iOS users.

What happens if SongCatcher can’t identify a song?

If SongCatcher is unable to identify a song it will display one of the following error messages:

  • SongCatcher can’t find your track. Can you try again?
  • Hmm, it looks like you're offline

If you are offline at the time, SongCatcher will give you the option to try again.

Note: At this time, it is not possible to temporarily store sound clips to be identified when your phone is next online.

Sometimes SongCatcher may identify a song, but be unable to match it to Deezer’s catalog. In these cases, it will display the title of the song, the name of the artist, and a list of search results according to what the app heard.

If the service fails to recognise the song completely, it could be for a few reasons: the environment you’re in may be too noisy, your device may be too far away from the music source, or the song may not be in the Deezer catalog.

Where can you find your SongCatcher history?

At this time, you must save songs you capture to your Favorites or a playlist in order to return to them.

Can SongCatcher recognise a track if you sing it? How about if you hum it?

SongCatcher works by matching tracks to existing music in our database. Our development team is working on technology to identify songs by singing or humming. When we have more, you’ll know about it.

Great, so you don't need Shazam's feature anymore that is limited to only a few countries? Is this available everywhere?

It would be great if a recognised song could also be directly scrobbled to Last.fm without actually playing it in Deezer.
Yeah, it's available for android users everywhere 🙂
And when will come this feature to iOS users?

There's no ETA yet, but we'll keep everyone informed when we know more 🙂
Just an idea but might it be useful to have a widget or shortcut that will automatically start song catcher listening instead of going into the app, clicking search and then song catcher. And then store it to a playlist specifically for song catcher only? Thanks

Hey David, that's been suggested on our ideas forum, take a look a show your support by voting for it to be implemented 🙂 https://en.deezercommunity.com/ideas/597

We don't have an ETA for that, but we'll let everyone know once we have more info 🙂
I've noticed on my GooglePixelXL that the SongCatcher regularly tells me there is no internet when using 4g, despite an immediate speed test that sees high speeds available.

At first I thought it was the carrier or handset but now I'm convinced it's the app. A known bug perhaps?

I'd also like to add my voice to wanting to reach the SongCatcher via its own app icon on my phone's homescreen.
Can u please add a radar item on the app so as long as Deezer gonna hear the song from anywhere from the microphone it gonna recognize it and will open the song from Deezer
Can u add an icon on the app call it for example “Radar” as if u tap on this bottom u can know the song immediately on Deezer where it is and which artist is singing it through the microphone.

We already have something similar 🙂 please see above!

if its here in Pakistan, then its everwhere. And yeah thats a big blow for shazam😂😂

Anyone else has the same problem that songcatcher cant "find" the song, even if it is in my playlist or when you search by name it is available in Deezer. This message shows after approx 1 minute " something went wrong, it seems you are not connected to the internet, try again " . i am connected to internet via 5G or wifi. This problem is now for some months now, done all the deezer updates, might be a setting in my new phone? Samsung Android.

Thankz for any advice !

Hi @Ozzie_Oscar, sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue.

I couldn't reproduce the issue. Tested with a couple of songs on iOS and Android and got accurate results in both.

To address this, please follow the step-by-step instructions below:

  1. Delete the app.
  2. Clear the cache of Google Play Store.
  3. Turn off your device for 30 seconds.
  4. Turn your device back on and reinstall the app.

Here's how you can clear the cache and data of the Play Store:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on "Apps and notifications" and then "See all apps."
  3. Scroll down and tap on "Google Play Store."
  4. Tap on "Storage" and then "Clear cache."
  5. Next, tap on "Clear data."
  6. Reopen the Play Store and attempt your download again.
