include

plugin for logitech media server

Hi there!

would be great if you could provide a plugin for LMS. Since it is easy to install on Raspberry Pi (e.g. PiCorePlayer) and many HiFi output-options exist it would enhance your support for audiophile listeners! At least: provide some details for the login process so that the community can work on a plugin.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Thank you for your idea!

IMHO, It’s better to ask for public APIs that cover all the functionalities offered by Deezer or any kind of solution allowing to get the same result. Why? By doing that you offer a lot of possibilities to the communitie. Moreover It will probably touch more Deezer users as it will allow to solve several issues:

  • Allow third party Hifi Devices (Sonos, Bluesound, Wiim, Denon, Octavio, Sonoro, Nuprime, Triangle, Zidoo...) to benefit from all the Deezer functionalities → This point touches quite a lot of people. Currently, on third party devices, the Deezer functionalities are really poor compared to what you have with the smartphone/tablet app.
  • The use of Deezer via the existing Logitech Squeezebox
  • The use of Deezer via Squeezelite → For devices like Raspberry Pi and all the devices on which you could use Squeezelite
  • The use of Deezer on Raspberry Pi directly without Squeezelite and LMS or any other devices with the appropriated app (to be developped)

You also have a higher probability to see Deezer doing something, ‘one thing’ that will preserve a bigger amount of users / reccuring fees / subscriptions.

One thing is sure, if there is no solution I will have no other choice and will change for another music service (Qobuz, Spotify).

Hi All,

I’m going to sound  a bit pessimistic and I don’t want to come across too negative, but I just can’t see Deezer getting to grips with this technical situation. Lets face it took them years to sort out ‘Gapless Playback’

The technical support team never get to involved in these forums, there is never much participation or updates to report back to us. The only time they got a wee bit involved is when they came up with the crappy Logo and colour scheme.

I have a raspberry pi 4 with a hifiberry digi pro + hat running picoreplayer with LMS and it works great with Deezer, every thing is integrated with my NAS and runs through a FiiO K7 DAC…..sounds great

I’m beginning to think the solution for me is to buy a WiiM Pro as this has the Deezer APP installed on it, and I believe API has been updated in a recent firmware update. I will see how things go over the next few weeks to see if Deezer can come up with a solution. I have been with Deezer for many years and despite a few niggles I enjoy using their service and therefor I am reluctant to move to another Streaming service.

Let’s hope that this technical issue can be resolved soon for the sake of all of the Squeezebox punters that use Deezer.

Cheers

well… I am looking for any solution to have headless player remotely controlled on my Raspberry Pi. LMS with mysqueezebox.com was descent solution but now with mysqueezebox shutdown, this is going down the drain. deezer should either provide support on this or let let some opensource developers create solution without twisting their hand (like they used to in the past)

Another Deezer subscriber here that uses LMS. I love the Deezer content but if I can’t stream via my LMS/Pi’s/Touch and listen on my HiFi then that’s a deal breaker for me and I’m sure many other LMS users.

Surely a way can be found to develop/release an API that enables Deezer subscribers to access this great content and allows the fantastic LMS community to incorporate into the LMS plugin ecosystem.

I don’t want to have to go the Spotify route, but will if a solution to this can’t be found which would be a real shame.

Come on Deezer make it happen!

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I took a long time to understand the evolution on the third party player, not developed by the Deezer team, but using the Deezer API. I wrote a mini-player on Linux OS 8 years ago (just to test the Deezer API) and at that time it was possible to get an mp3 stream url to open with a music player.

Authentication was very simple: login/password of the Deezer account and you had a session to interact with the old version of the API.

The Deezer team decided to change the API to be more secure (oAuth2 for authentication). This means that to access the new version of the API, you will need to delegate authentication to the Deezer form. This change is very important because on the solution hosted on the mysqueezebox.com server, you need to save your Deezer credentials to create a Deezer session with the old API.

This is a potential security hole in case the mysqueezebox.com server is hacked. I hope that Deezer has developed its own API for Logitech to avoid storing the credentials in a database. This development could be implemented by the people in charge of mysqueezebox.com.

But the second main problem (and I think this is a blocking point), with the new version of the API, it is no longer possible to get the music stream URL to inject into a music player. The player has to be developed and managed using the Deezer SDK. This means that for all players based on Linux and with an open source community, it will no longer be possible to develop a Deezer player.

I may be wrong in my analysis, but technically I am not very confident.

I took a look at the Spotify implementation (which uses the Spotify connect sdk). The solution is better and already in place with squeezebox, picoreplayer and co. I need to do more testing with a premium account to see how it works, but I think there is no other solution unless the Deezer team works with our community.

I chose Deezer specifically for the LMS integration. Without it… I guess Deezer loses another paying customer.

Come on Deezer. If you want to compete, and Spotify works on LMS, why not support those who want to ensure your paid-for service is played on as many devices as possible? Technical assistance is what is required and let the community develop the solution for you.

Win-win!

Here is another deezer-HIFI and LMS user. It would nice to get a solution for deezer on LMS after the shutdown of mysqueezebox in February.

FYI : it is possible to to subscribe to Spotify with one month free. So I tried the Spotify service just to compare.

Finally, it is very easy to install the Spotify plugin with LMS.

there is also a service on Internet to transfer your playlist from deezer to Spotify (it take just few seconds)

after the migration, I retrieve all the music tracks that had on the deezer platform, accessible from squeezebox, picoreplayer, iPeng, and my pioneer HomeCinema.

You have just to adapt your usage concerning the deezer flow service to the equivalent with Spotify.

in term of price : it is equivalent.

so my experience is successful.

my only regret is that deezer is a French company, and as a French, I would have prefered to support it.

so in one month, if deezer team does not want to support and collaborate with the squeezebox community, I will say bye, bye

Hi all.

Is it worth trying to contact these guys (and gal)?

https://www.linkedin.com/in/ivanakirkbride/

I really don’t want to have to go down the Spotify path, they can’t even do true CD quality - been waiting years and still no sign. Deezer also pay artists more so it’s a no-brainer for me to try and continue to use Deezer.

cheers, w7r

I hope deezer doesn’t ignore this topic. I’m already testing alternatives. It would be nice if there was any reaction from deezer at all.

The support team doesn't make any hope…

(Even if it sounds like a standard answer from the manual)

I’m in the same boat as many others here - I’ve had a Deezer family subscription for over ten years mostly due to the LMS plugin working very well. Initially I came to Deezer because their catalogue was simply stronger in some of the genres I listen to, and over the years as official support for LMS/Squeezebox was dropped by Spotify and others I was happy to learn that although not on the officially supported list, Deezer *was* “keeping the door open” for those of us who curse Logitech’s short product lifecycles.
This has kept me a loyal, and happy, subscriber until now - resisting the requests from some family members to move to Spotify thanks to Deezer still working fine on my beloved Squeezeboxes (plus me liking to support the “underdogs” on general principle).
Now, with mysqueezebox.com closing and rendering the Deezer plugin non-functional, I’ve found that there is now a plugin for Spotify that works without mysqueezebox.com, so I have to consider abandoning the Deezer ship. There would actually be an extra bonus for me switching to Spotify, as our cars have built-in Spotify support… but still I’d love to stay with Deezer, if possible.

Unfortunately, Deezer is good in ignoring paying customer needs and wishes. I will wait and hope some time. But if there is no chance for Deezer on LMS - I will leave Deezer.

Here is another deezer-HIFI and LMS user. It would nice to get a solution for deezer on LMS after the shutdown of mysqueezebox in February.

The problem is maybe they don’t understand why we like using Deezer via LMS. That LMS makes possible to play music to a wide variety of audio systems, Airplay, Chromecast, Sonos, Squeezebox, Upnp, and that it integrates also with radio stations, and your personal music library. And you can pair mono speakers as stereo, do multiroom audio, and control from any type of device. That’s this versatility and freedom we would like to keep.

I for example use LMS/mysqueezebox.com to wake-up with radio in the bedroom in the morning, then listen to Deezer or my personal music on a Hi-fi system when coming home from work, using my phone only as a remote, all streaming trafic going through the server.

For all those who got used to this versatility, I’m sure they will migrate to whatever music services are available on the LMS platform, audiophiles probably to Qobuz, others to Spotify, as those are available on LMS right now.

If I were Deezer, I would try make things as simple as providing Deezer connect as a headless daemon available for any major OS. This is what Spotify did and I guess this is one of the reason for their success.

i am in the same boat.  a loyal deezer user.  i guess now the only option is qobuz.  would love for deezer to work though.  there are almost 120k actives using squeezebox.com.  most ofthem now will be looking for a solution through LMS.

It's just a shame to see just how incompetent these people are...

I don’t think it’s incompetence.  I think they just don’t care about the Logitech Media Server Community.

Of course it is incompetence. It is years now people are reuesting "deezer connect", dlna support, mopidy plugin ... As a general rule, all cheap Chinese streamers or open source ones are missing deezer support. I have Arylic streamer and deezer also stopped working on it although it was working for quite some while. They are plain dumb and incompetent

I think that the inability to see that being able to use Deezer in Logitich Media Server is their only unique selling point compared to Apple music and Amazon music ( both 16 bit 44.1 khz flac services, and both integrated in Sonos etc. ) is incompetence.

Is there any news?  Unfortunately not..Or am I wrong

As of now Deezer is still working very well on LMS with picoreplayer, for how long nobody seems to know?

Hi All,

Just been on the Logitech Forum and read on a post that the mysqueezebox server will be closing down at the END of February 2024.

Quote: “If you continue using mysqueezebox.com you will continue to see the QR code this; can't be turned off. Switch to a local LMS and you'll quit seeing it (except for Pandora, Deezer, and Tidal, where it will continue). But that should be gone by end of February with the shutdown of mysb.com, because those services will not be available.”

Cheers

Deezer really are missing a trick with their seeming reluctance/inability to get themselves embedded into all of these new streaming products, and I include LMS in that. Amazing that they can afford to give up those potential revenue streams - maybe they have too much money already. If I were a shareholder I’d be asking questions about why they are not looking at these opportunities.

I’ve just signed up with Qobuz, it was so easy to install the LMS plugin, maybe they are just not smart enough to be able to provide the right tools to allow integration with LMS.

From sounds of some replies I have seen from Deezer it sounds like the think LMS is a dead discontinued ecosystem.

i think they have missed fact LMS is a currently thriving community developed system that has been community developed for many years and also underpins some hi-fi specific distros like Daphile,  it also has new hardware available and plenty of options for mini pc’s or rasp pi’s to act as end points for playback and multi room systems

come on Deezer, community just needs some support with some api info to come together and get a plugin running to keep Deezer access available on LMS.  Its not like it needs you to develop a plugin, just reach out with some info to help.

Completely agree with you. Maybe it’s time to try and get past their support bots and try and get the attention of their development leads.

I’m going to message their head dev via LinkedIn and see if I can get a response.
