Linux needs a native client for Deezer!

I decided to check out the Windows 10 Deezer app and when I went to download it, it directed me to the Microsoft Store. I thought “It might be a UWP app” but when I installed it I quickly noticed that it was just an Electron app. Opening the menu at the top left proved that it was Electron and so did the memory usage. First of all, no need to only have it in the Microsoft Store. There should be a link to a direct download too. Secondly, there’s no excuse for not having an official Linux client since you’re using Electron. There’s not much work involved.  

And so now that I know it’s an Electron app, I know that it’s probably not that much more different to the web player. Y’all should just make a “PWA” aka, create a shortcut to it from your browser. In Chrome/Chromium and Chromium based browsers, you can do this: Menu> More tools> Create shortcut…. and click on open as window and rename the title to just “Deezer” and then press Create! To be clear, you don’t get HiFi or offline

Deezer should add add to homescreen support to their web layer and really should be using Google’s Lighthouse auditing as well supporting the Media Session API so we can control it with media keys.

The PWA idea worked well for me on Fedora 31

What’s the point of using Electron if it won’t result in all three major platforms getting support? I have used most of the workarounds mentioned in this thread and they work, but CPU and memory consumption is just atrocious. Please, make a Linux client, if the community can do it, why can’t you? Least you could do is let us help you build it for Linux. If you can’t do this I’m afraid I won’t be subscribing anytime soon.

It’s a shame really, because Deezer’s recommendation system is just so good...but they can’t be bothered to support Linux even though they poured all of their efforts into abandoning the native UWP and macOS clients and replacing them with Electron apps...

Won’t happen, guys; let’s just face it. I visit this thread every two or three months, just to get the same info over and over - I’ll be passing this info to our team, it’s on backlog, etc. @Rudi is very helpful, but it seems that either: Linux isn’t really on the target list or they simply don’t have enough manpower to carry the task.

I’ll keep coming every now and then, as usual, but won’t hold my breath.
