Flow should not recommend songs which are not based on my Favourites

@Yula has different responsibilities now with deezer and is no longer actively involved in this part of the forums and the service.

additionally, as this is a four year-old thread, you might gain more traction with a new, concise post, perhaps after reviewing all of the many and recent topics on Flow.

I think the topic has been discussed to death, but you might have something new and insightful to contribute.

I know this is an old thread and the subject has been “discussed to death” but I think that just reinforces the point that this is a highly requested feature that Deezer appears to be ignoring.

Perhaps @Jaime.Deezer could provide some insight?

@maxkshaw as far as I am concerned there’s not an option to enable/disable Flow.
It is a popular idea though and I invite you to vote and keep pushing for it. I’ll do the same on my side but can’t guarantee anything:

@Jaime.Deezer - that’s an interesting thread. It discusses the problem, but I don’t think a “private session” is the correct approach. The solution is simple: Flow should be based on songs that the user likes (or dislikes) only. It should not be affected by anything else. Keep it simple and you will have fewer complaints.

Flow algorithm is something that our developers are constantly looking to improve as it is one of the greatest features on Deezer.

That is why from Flow Genres, we have evolved and created the Flow Mods, and also we added an option for users to have their Flow more based to discovering new tracks or playing more content that is on their favourites.

If you want just to hear your favourites, you can use the feature “Shuffle My Music” inside your favoutires tab.

Hi ​@Leonídia.Deezer, thank you for your reply, but I think you have misunderstood the problem. This isn’t about listening to my favourites. This is about what affects the Flow algorithm.

I use Flow to automatically play music that I might like. The algorithm is based on songs that I have “liked” so it picks similar songs that I haven’t heard before. Great!

However, the algorithm is also based on songs that have been played on my account. So now my Flow algorithm is picks songs that are not based on songs that I have liked. This is the problem.

If I manually play a few Disney songs for my kid, my Flow will start including kids’ songs, even though I haven’t “liked” any Disney songs? And there is no way for me to exclude these from the algorithm. My Flow has been inappropriately and irreparably influenced.

As I’ve said before, the solution to this is simple: the Flow algorithm should not factor in manual plays - it should be based only on “liked” songs.

Perhaps some sort of Flow customisation could be implemented, like a Yes/No toggle for basing the Flow algorithm purely on “liked” songs.
