We're proud to announce that our favorite tracks limit has been increased to 10,000 tracks!
Thank you all for your patience and support while we worked on the delivery of this immense project. We hope you enjoy marking those songs as favorites now 
This should be a gradual rollout to users, so please stay tuned for more details.

It did ! A few years back. I'm over 4000 songs in my favourites.
No, that’s not the same, and that’s a misleading number. First, it doesn’t just play the tracks you have in favorite when uou shuffle, it plays tracks you haven’t selected as recommendations. Also, after 2k. It only appears you can save more, but you go back and realize it didn’t actually save it. There is a limit

Your favorite tracks are still at 10k, but e.g. max. tracks in a playlist have been raised to 5k tracks which will be very useful for me, as I use playlists for collecting albums with the same topic like pipe organ music and play them in shuffle mode then. These playlists had reached the 2k tracks limit a long time ago.

You can highlight all tracks in a playlist with the check mark at the top and then choose to add them to an existing playlist, so they will be merged. It looks like this in the web player and desktop app:
